Weidmueller POCON Test Connector
Overview POCON
User info POCON
Intended usage
The POCON base unit is designed for installation between the current and voltage transformers and the protective relays within network monitoring systems. The connector can be used to separate the mains side from the protective relay side. At the same time it can also be used to apply test signals to the protective relay. Due to the large number of circuit options, only one possibility is presented here as an example.
Standard connector in operative function
Short-circuit with lateral disconnection
Free configuration options for the test-disconnect terminal
Safety precautions
Read and follow the entire operating instructions before using the POCON. Never use the POCON with current or voltage that is higher than the permissible limits. Do not attempt to repair the test connector, standard connector or base unit by yourself if these get damaged. You may not take apart or otherwise convert the test connector, standard connector or base unit. The test connector and standard connector may be put into use during system operation only in the way described in the operating instructions. At any stage in handling of the test and standard connector, care must be taken not to make contact with connector-fingers as they may be connected to live equipment either via the test block or test equipment.
Approved use
This device is intended for use in applications as described in the operating instructions only. Any other form of usage is not permitted and can lead to accidents or destruction of the device. Using the device in non-approved applications will lead immediately to the expiry of all guarantee and warranty claims on the part of the operator against the manufacturer. Using the selected device for purposes other than those specified or failure to observe the operating instructions and warning notes can lead to serious malfunctions that may result in personal injury or damage to property.
Qualified personnel
These operating instructions have been written for trained and qualified personnel who are familiar with the valid regulations and standards applicable to the field of application.
Accuracy of the technical documentation
This operating instruction has been written with due care and attention. However, unless otherwise required by law we do not guarantee that the data, images and drawings are accurate or complete nor do we accept liability for their contents. Weidmüller’s general terms and conditions of sale apply in their respective valid form. Subject to alteration without notice.
CE Mark
This product fulfils the guidelines issued by the European Union (EU) and
is therefore entitled to carry the CE mark.
Configuration of the base unit
Configuration of the base unit
Installation base unit
The base unit may either be mounted on a DIN rail or in a wall cut-out.
Metal cut-out mounting
During the mounting of the base unit into the metal cut-out it is
particulary important to pay attention to the right mounting position. An
incorrect assembly can cause a dropping out of the base unit when wiring with
the test or standard connector.
Decoding of the base unit
The coding of the base unit must not be removed after the fi rst usage.
Connections Base unit
Assembling test connector
Ring-shaped or forked lugs may be used. First you should use a screw driver
to disconnect the test socket. Then insert the cable lug sideways into the
test connector and screw the socket back on.
Bridging test connector
Loose the test socket, insert the cross connections and tight the test
socket afterwards again. Then assemble again the cover plate.

socket afterwards again. Then assemble again the cover plate.
Markers
The base unit offers various possibilities of marking with DEK 5 and WS 8/5
markers.
Dekafix DEK 5
WS 8/5 (1 piece per marking place)
Measurement at the base unit
Measuring the voltage at the base unit is not permitted. Otherwise there is
the danger of destroying the contacts.
Twist-protection
The twist-protection of the standard and test connector prevents the
connectors from beeing inserted in the wrong direction.
CAUTION
Push the test or standard connector on until it clicks in. Connectors which
are not inserted straight can lead to faulty contacts during system operation
and result in damage to the system or test instrument.
Attaching the test and standard connector
Removing the test and standard connector
Be sure to hold down the release button before and while you pull out the
test or standard connector. Pull the connector straight out.All 4 release
buttons have to be pushed simultaneously.
Technical drawings
POCON 4 standard connector and base unit
POCON 4 and POCON 8 Dimension for metal cut-outs
NOTICE
During the preparation of the metal cut-out the predefined dimensions by
Weidmüller have to be strictly met. Only compliance with the dimensions
subsequently ensures precise mounting as well as the correct assembly of
POCON.
NOTICE
During the preparation of the metal cut-out the sheet of metal may not be
deformed. Bended surfaces may cause a deformation of the base units. This will
have a negative effect on the contact reliability.
