Choice and Location of Alarms

Choose the appropriate alarm type based on the location:

  • Smoke Alarms for Minimum Protection: Suitable for escape routes, lounges, and bedrooms.
  • Smoke Alarms for Increased Protection: Ideal for areas with furniture, bedding, and clothes.
  • Heat Alarms: Recommended for kitchens, boiler rooms, workshops, and garages.

Alarm Positioning

Position heat alarms on apex ceilings for optimal performance.

Heat Alarm Location

  • Avoid installing heat alarms on walls.
  • Do not use in escape routes.
  • If interlinkable, connect with smoke alarms.
  • Avoid areas with children, elderly, or disabled individuals.
  • Designed for environments with steam, vapors, dust, and cobwebs.
  • Maintain a distance of 300mm from heat-generating appliances and lights.
  • Avoid placement near extractor fans.
  • Test the alarm weekly.

Maintain Your Alarm:

  • Wipe the alarm with a damp cloth every six months.
  • Vacuum using a soft brush every six months.

HEAT ALARM

OPTICAL SMOKE ALARMS are suitable for sensing smoldering fires in escape routes, lounges and bedrooms which may contain furniture, bedding and clothes

HEAT ALARMS are most suitable for kitchens, boiler rooms, workshops and garages where dust, dirt and moisture would contribute to nuisance alarms.
NOTE : Heat alarms should not be used in escape routes and it is recommended they are interlinked to smoke alarms. Do not install heat alarms on walls or in bedrooms, nurseries, playrooms or areas where the elderly and disabled may spend long periods of time.

ALARM POSITIONING

HEAT ALARMS

  • REMEMBER , heat alarms need a fire to activate, flames WILL be present.
  • Do NOT install on walls
  • Do NOT use in escape routes
  • If a heat alarm has an interlink facility it should be connected with an interlinkable smoke alarm
  • Do NOT use in lounges, bedrooms and separate dining rooms where smoke alarms are best
  • AVOID use in areas where children, the elderly and the disabled are normally present
  • DESIGNED for kitchens, garages, cellars, and attics where steam, vapors, dust, and cobwebs may cause nuisance alarms from smoke alarms
  • KEEP 300mm AWAY from lights and appliances that generate heat. (Tungsten and low voltage bulbs) (Sensor temperature range 54°C – 65°C
  • KEEP AWAY from objects that could divert or prevent smoke and heat from reaching them, ie beams and other ceiling features.
  • KEEP AWAY from extractor fans
