  • SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port (required for USB 3.0 transfer speeds or backwards compatible with USB 2.0 ports at USB 2.0 transfer speeds)2

HOW TO USE

External USB drives can be used in two ways with the Xbox One.

  • Apps & Games
  • Media Storage

Apps & Games

  • To play and save games on the Xbox One, the USB device must be formatted in a specified way. When you initially connect the USB drive to the Xbox One, you should be prompted to format it for games and apps.
  • This will allow you to play and save games on the drive, but it will also wipe any data you may have on it. Before you start formatting, make sure you have all of your data backed up.
  • If you are not requested to format the drive, you can do so manually by selecting the following options from the menu:

Manage Storage > Home > Settings > System

  • Under ‘Manage Storage,’ the drive should be detected. Choose the drive and format it for ‘Games and Apps.’

NOTE: Disconnect and rejoin the drive while the Xbox is turned on if it is not identified under Manage Storage.

  • After the disc has been formatted, it can be utilized to save and play games and programmes.
  • Before unplugging the drive, make sure the Xbox One is turned off to protect your data.

NOTE

It must meet the following requirements to be able to play and save games on the drive:

  • USB 3.0
  • At least 256 GB of storage space.

You will not be able to save or play games to the drive if it does not fulfil these requirements.

MEDIA STORAGE

  • The Xbox Game Drive can be used to play or watch media on the Xbox One.
  • The Xbox One media player may save movies, music, and photos on the disc and play them on your television.
  • When you attach the USB drive to the Xbox One for the first time, it will prompt you to reformat it for usage with games and apps. Use for Media is selected.
  • The content can then be viewed using Media Player:

Select the drive from the Home > Media Player menu.

  • Disconnect and reconnect the drive while the Xbox is on if it is not identified in Media Player.
  • You should be able to play the media that is saved on the drive after selecting it.
  • Before unplugging the drive, make sure the Xbox One is turned off to protect your data.
