Instructions for use

Thank you for purchasing this SHOEI product. For your enjoyment and correct use of the product, we suggest that you read these instructions fully.

Air from the upper and lower air intakes keep the inside of the shell comfortable. Air from the lower air intake also reduces condensation on the shield. The two intakes are opened and closed by moving the central button up or down.

Opening and closing the face cover

The face cover can be opened and closed with one hand. To open, slide the button in the bottom center of the face cover forward to release the lock, and then rotate the cover upwards until the stopper clicks. To close, pull the cover slowly down until the lock clicks.

• If the button malfunctions and you cannot unlock the face cover, simply undo the center screws on either side and slide the face cover down and forward to remove it. Consult your nearest Shoei dealer for repairs to the face cover and lock.
• Do not slide the button forward when closing the face cover. This will prevent the cover from locking.

Fitting and removing the face cover and face cover bases

Removing the face cover
Lift the face cover up until it locks in the fully open position. Undo the left and right center screws. Undo the screws (A) and take off the face cover.

Fitting the face cover
Identify the left and right face cover bases and secure with screws (A). With the face cover fully open, line up the screw holes. Check that the recessed and projecting parts of the washers and face cover bases are aligned, and lightly fasten the screws.
Pull the face cover down until it locks. Adjust so there are no gaps between face cover and shell, and then fully tighten the right and left screws.

• The face cover must be fitted in the fully open position. Attempting to fit the cover in any other position may damage the mechanism.
• Always check that both center screws are fastened tight before starting off.

Preset opening system

Adjust the preset lever (1 preset position) to open the shield to the required amount. Then press the lever at any time to quickly clear the shield of condensation.

CX-1 shield

The CX-1 MecaShield has the mechanism for attaching and adjusting the shield built into the shield itself, rather than mounted in a cover on the shell. This unique SHOEI construction simplifies fitting and removing the shield, and because there is no protruding cover to cause wind resistance, the helmet is astonishingly quiet.

• To fasten the shield base plates, use only the special screws designed for the Syncrotec helmet.

Changing the shield

• Removing the shield
  Open the shield completely. Pull the trigger on one side down to release the lock. Ease the hook off the hook rail and pull the center gear out of the gearbox. Repeat these instructions for the opposite side, and remove the shield.

• Fitting the shield
  Reverse the procedure for removing the shield. With the shield completely open, press the upper section of the shield center gear on one side into its gear box. Press firmly until the lower section locks in place. Make sure that the hook has securely engaged with the hook rail. Repeat these instructions for the other side.

Important Points to remember when replacing or fitting a new shield base

• After fitting the shield and the shield base, close the shield and check the rubber rim to be sure that it fits the helmet tightly at the top and bottom of the shield. Any gaps will allow wind to enter the helmet.Adjust the position of the shield for a tight fit, then secure the screws.
• when fitting the preset opening lever, be sure to set the preset lever washer so the thin part faces forward and the thick part faces the rear.
  *When attaching the shield, double check that it is firmly mounted on the shield base. It can be very dangerous if the shield comes loose at speed.

Precautions

1. Never ride with the face cover open. Always make sure it is closed and locked before setting off.
2.  Before wearing the helmet, check that the shield center gears on each side are firmly locked in place.
3.  Clean the shield with a solution of neutral detergent and water, rinse well and dry with a soft cloth.

• Never use benzine, thinner, gasoline or any kind of harsh cleaner.
