CLEAN WATER STORE 1354 Series Contact Retention Tank

Product Information

The Models 1054 and 1354 Series Contact Tank, part of the CWS Series, is designed with an internal baffling system that allows for uniform mixing and improved contact time. This meets the minimum baffle factor requirement of 0.3 set by many health agencies. The tank features a distribution system that allows water to enter at the top, distribute at the bottom, and exit at the top, maximizing contact time.
It is important to note that teflon tape should not be used on pipe fittings going into the plastic contact tank head, as it can cause cracking and leakage. Instead, teflon paste or other pipe joint compound should be used without overtightening.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Install the In – Out head on the tank. Apply silicone grease (included) to the bottom o-ring and screw it onto the tank. Do not use teflon joint compound or teflon tape on the tank threads.
  2. For chlorine/peroxide/soda ash mixing contact tanks, connect the inlet piping to the OUT port on the top fitting of the contact tank. Water should flow into the tank through the center tube. Refer to the diagram on Page 2 for visual guidance.
  3. Connect the outlet piping to the IN port on the top fitting of the contact tank. Use teflon pipe joint compound for this connection. Do not use teflon tape on the in – out threads.
  4. Install a vacuum relief valve to a tee on the inlet pipe to the contact tank.
  5. Every 1 to 4 years, remove the contact tank and flush out any accumulated sediment, if any, as needed.

It is important to avoid attaching very rigid copper or steel pipes to the tank without using flexible connectors. If using rigid copper or steel piping, flex lines should be used on the IN and OUT ports. This is because the contact tank may expand and contract during changes in line pressure, potentially causing damage to the tank if installed using rigid piping with no ability to flex slightly. Flexible connectors are available for order if needed.

Models 1054 and 1354 Series Contact Tank

  • The CWS Series Contact Tanks includes an internal baffling system that allows uniform mixing and improved contact time creating a .3 minimum baffle factor, as set by many health agencies.
  • The distribution system in our tank provides for water to enter the top of the tank, distribute at the bottom of the tank, and exit at the top of the tank, providing maximum contact time.
  • NOTE: (Do not use teflon tape on pipe fittings going into the plastic contact tank head. This will cause the head to crack and leak. Use teflon paste or other pipe joint compound and do not overtighten).
  1. Install In – Out head on tank. Apply some silicone grease (included) to bottom oring and screw on to tank. Do not use any teflon joint compound or teflon tape on the tank threads.
  2. For chlorine/peroxide/soda ash mixing contact tanks: connect the inlet piping to the OUT port on the top fitting of contact tank. Water should flow into the tank through the center tube. See diagram
  3. Connect the outlet piping to the IN port on the top fitting of the contact tank. Use teflon pipe joint compound. Do not use teflon tape on in – out threads.
  4. Install a vacuum relief valve to a tee on the inlet pipe to the contact tank.
  5. Once every 1 to 4 years remove contact and flush out any accumulated sediment, if any as needed.
  6. Vacuum breaker
  7. Unions on the inlet and outlet
  8. Pressure gauge
  9. Distributor mixer baffle

NOTE: Do not attach very rigid copper or steel pipe to tank without using flexible connectors. Use flex lines on the IN and OUT if using rigid copper or steel piping. Contact tank may expand and contract during changes in line pressure, causing damage to tank if installed using rigid piping with no ability to flex slightly. We have flex lines if you need to order some.
