Introduction

The all-new 2019, 50 amp Power Watchdog Smart Surge Protector + EPO (emergency power off) Portable Version provides improved surge protection for your coach with a powerful 4,800 Joules. Our patent-pending Power Watchdog + EPO is the world’s first smart surge guard and surge protector with built-in Bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to monitor park power conditions in real-time on your smartphone! Receive text notifications about impending threats before something disastrous occurs. If there are unsafe conditions such as too high or low voltage, open ground or open neutral, and more, the new EPO (emergency power off) equipment will automatically SHUT DOWN power. If the voltage falls below 104 V or rises above 132 V, the unit will immediately shut down. Once the power situation is good and stable,  The unit will automatically turn back on after 90 seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can you just replace the box in the middle if it goes bad and where can you find the replacement?
The ‘box’ doesn’t get replaced, it is the surge protection module that is inside that gets replaced. You can call Hughes directly or go to their website for a replacement.

  • Can this be used with an adapter to connect a 30 amp trailer to it? upgrading to a 50 amp rv in the near future. will the 50 amp be able to do both?
Yes, this will work for both 50 amp and 30 amp cords, like you, said an adapter will convert it to 30 amp and also they make an adapter for 120 volts, found mine on amazon.

  • Is this one portable?
Not really. It is meant to be hard-wired into your RV. If you want portable, get the one with the pig-tail leads out either end.

  • Is the unit weatherproof?
The portable Power Watchdog units are IP65 rated for outdoor use. This means that rain and snow should not be an issue. They are not, however, ‘waterproof’ where you can submerge them. Keep them hanging up and rain and weather should not be an issue.

  • Is this unit used or is it only damaged packaging? Is everything in the box.
It was never taken out of the box. It is brand new.

  • Would this surge protector be considered an EMS system?
You can monitor your power usage and it will automatically cut it off if the power spikes or gets too low or you get a surgeon it and then cut it back on a few minutes.

  • You need to change the picture! People are ordering this one thinking it is the hardwired and vice versa! Any plans on doing so?
Yes, I ordered 50 amp twice. The first one came with a plugin the second one was 30 amp with the plug not hardwired.

  • Does it store your usage data for a period of time? Like a power meter?
The unit will store your energy usage (kilowatt-hours) internally. So even if you leave it out of range or the unit is unplugged, it should keep this stored. Voltage, amps, and watts are real-time readings.

  • Does the pwd50-EPO come with a digital wall plug voltage reader for inside the coach?
No reader for inside the coach. It has a Bluetooth connection to your cell phone.

  • What does a blinking white dog face mean? There is no error code but also no power.
Please give Hughes Autoformers a call. If they cannot diagnose the issue, it could be a warranty claim. The dog’s face should be a solid color – white is good, red indicating a fault detected.

  • Can you permanently install this unit in line before the transfer switch? I have been using it already for 6 months.
Yes, it can be wired in before the transfer switch.

  • Is this an older version of the PWD-50 Bluetooth with 6,100 joules of advanced surge protection?
If you look on the backside of the unit, 3.09 is the latest version. This version came out in about June of last year.

  • Any chance this can be exchanged since the return date is expired? It’s in the box and brand new. It’s a 50 amp and we need a 30 amp.
Not sure about the return policy on this unit.

  • Would this protect electronics etc. if used with a generator?
This will protect from surges, brownouts, and overvoltage. Surges usually come from public utilities from lightning or shorted transformers so this should no be a problem with your generator.
