3.2 Symbols
Meanings of symbols that may be on the battery:
1 LED glows red. The battery is too hot or too cold.
4 LEDs flash red. There is a malfunction in the battery.
The data next to this symbol indicates the energy content of the battery
according to the cell manufacturer’s specification. The energy content
available during operation is lower.
Do not dispose of the product with your household waste.
Safety Precautions
4.1 Warning Symbols
The warning symbols on the double-battery compartment and battery have the
following meaning:
** Follow the safety instructions and their measures.
Read, understand and keep the instruction manual.
Protect the battery from heat and fire.
Do not immerse the battery in liquids.
Observe the permissible temperature range for the battery.
4.2 Intended Use**
The double-battery compartment connects one or two STIHL AP batteries with a
STIHL cordless product with a holder for the double-battery compartment.
The double-battery compartment may be used when it is raining.
The battery may be used when it is raining.
The STIHL AP battery supplies the STIHL cordless product with power.
During the work, the double-battery compartment is connected to a cordless
product as described in the instruction manual for the cordless product.
The double-battery compartment must only be used in ground-based gardening
power tools.
WARNING
■ Failure to use the double-battery compartment or battery as intended may
result in a serious or fatal injury to people and damage to property.
► Use the double-battery compartment and battery as described in this
instruction manual.
4.3 Requirements for the User
WARNING
■ Uninstructed users cannot recognize or evaluate the dangers posed by the
double-battery compartment and battery. This may result in a serious or fatal
injury to the user or other people.
► Read, understand, and keep the instruction manual.
► If passing on the double-battery compartment or battery to another person:
provide them with the instruction manual also.
► Make sure that the user meets the following conditions:
– The user is rested.
– The user is physical, sensorily, and mentally capable of operating the
double battery compartment and battery and working with them. If the user is
physically, sensorily, or mentally impaired, the double-battery compartment
and battery must only be used under supervision or following instructions by a
responsible person.
– The user can recognize and evaluate the dangers posed by the double-battery
compartment and battery.
– The user is of legal age or the user is being trained under supervision in a
profession in accordance with national regulations.
– The user has received instruction from a STIHL specialist dealer or a
competent person before using the double-battery compartment for the first
time.
– The user is not impaired by alcohol, medicines, or drugs.

4.4 Work Area and Surroundings
4.4.1 Double-battery Compartment
WARNING
■ By standing people, children, and animals cannot recognize or evaluate the
dangers posed by the double-battery compartment. This may result in serious
injury to bystanding people, children, and animals.
► Keep bystanding people, children, and animals out of the working area.
► Do not leave the double-battery compartment unattended.
► Make sure that children cannot play with the double-battery compartment.
4.4.2 Battery
WARNING
■ By standing people, children, and animals cannot recognize or evaluate the
dangers posed by the battery. This may result in serious injury to bystanding
people, children, and animals.
► Keep bystanding people, children, and animals out of the way.
► Do not leave the battery unattended.
► Make sure that children cannot play with the battery.
■ The battery is not protected against all ambient conditions. If exposed to
certain ambient conditions, the battery may catch fire or explode. This may
result in serious injury to
people and damage to property.
► Protect the battery from heat and fire.
► Do not throw the battery into a fire.
► Use and store the battery at temperatures between ‑ 10 °C and + 50 °C.
► Do not immerse the battery in liquids.
► Keep the battery away from metallic objects.
► Do not expose the battery to high pressure.
► Do not expose the battery to microwaves.
► Protect the battery from chemicals and salts.
4.5 Safe Condition
4.5.1 Double-battery Compartment
The double-battery compartment is in safe condition when the following
conditions are met:
– The double-battery compartment is not damaged.
– The double-battery compartment is clean.
– The double-battery compartment is working and has not been modified.
– Only genuine STIHL accessories for this double-battery compartment are
attached.
– The accessories are correctly attached.
WARNING
■ If not in safe condition, components may no longer operate correctly and
safety devices may be disabled. This may result in serious or fatal injury to
people.
► Use an undamaged double-battery compartment.
► If the double-battery compartment is dirty or wet: clean the double-battery
compartment.
► Do not modify the double-battery compartment.
► Only attach genuine STIHL accessories for this double-battery compartment.
► Attach the double-battery compartment as described in this instruction
manual.
► Never connect the electrical contacts of the double-battery compartment to
metallic objects and cause a short circuit.
► Do not open the double-battery compartment.
► If anything is unclear: consult a STIHL specialist dealer.
4.5.2 Battery
The battery is in a safe condition when the following conditions are met:
– The battery is not damaged.
– The battery is clean and dry.
– The battery is working and has not been modified.
WARNING
■ The battery cannot function safely if it is not in safe condition. There is
a risk of serious injury to persons.
► Use an undamaged and functioning battery.
► Do not charge a damaged or defective battery.
► If the battery is dirty or wet: clean the battery and allow it to dry.
► Do not modify the battery.
► Do not insert objects into the apertures in the battery.
► Never connect the battery terminals to metallic objects and cause a short
circuit.
► Do not open the battery.
► Replace worn or damaged warning signs.
■ Fluid may leak from a damaged battery. If the fluid contacts the skin or
eyes, this may cause irritation.
► Avoid contact with the fluid.
► In the event of contact with the skin: wash the affected areas with plenty
of soap and water.
► In the event of contact with the eyes: rinse the eyes with plenty of water
for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention.
■ A damaged or defective battery may emit an unusual odor, smoke or catch
fire. This may result in a serious or fatal injury to people and damage to
property.
► If the battery emits an unusual odor or smoke: do not use the battery and
keep it away from flammable materials.
► If the battery catches fire: try to extinguish the battery using a fire
extinguisher or water.
4.6 Working
WARNING
■ In certain situations, the user may no longer be able to concentrate on
their work. This may result in the user stumbling, falling, and becoming
seriously injured.
► Work calmly and carefully.
► If the light and visibility conditions are poor: do not use the double-
battery compartment.
► Watch out for obstacles.
► If signs of fatigue occur: take a break.
■ If the double-battery compartment changes or starts to behave differently
when working, it may not be in a safe condition. This may result in serious
injury to people and damage to property.
► Stop working, remove the battery and consult a STIHL specialist dealer.
4.7 Transporting
4.7.1 Double-battery Compartment
WARNING
■ The double-battery compartment may tip over or move during transport. This
may result in injury to people and damage to property.
► Remove the battery.
► Secure the double-battery compartment with lashing straps, belts, or a net
so that it cannot tip over and move.
4.7.2 Battery
WARNING
■ The battery is not protected against all ambient conditions. The battery may
be damaged if it is exposed to certain ambient conditions and damage to
property may occur.
► Never transport a damaged battery.
► Store the battery in non-conductive packaging.
■ The battery may turn over or shift during transport. This may result in
personal injuries and damage to property.
► Pack the battery in the packaging in such a way that it cannot move.
► Secure the packaging so that it cannot move.
4.8 Storing
4.8.1 Double-battery Compartment
WARNING
■ Children cannot recognize or evaluate the dangers posed by the double-
battery compartment. There is a risk of serious injury to children.
► Remove the battery.
► Keep the double-battery compartment out of the reach of children.
■ Moisture may cause corrosion of the double battery compartment’s electrical
contacts. This may result in damage to the double-battery compartment.
► Remove the battery.
► Keep the double-battery compartment clean and dry.
4.8.2 Battery
WARNING
■ Children are not aware of and cannot assess the dangers of the battery and
can be seri‐ ously injured.
► Store the battery out of the reach of children.
■ The battery is not protected against all ambient conditions. The battery may
be damaged if it is exposed to certain ambient conditions.
► Store the battery in a clean and dry condition.
► Store the battery in a confined space.
► Store the battery separately from the cordless product.
► Store the battery in non-conductive packaging.
► Store the battery at temperatures between -10°C and +50°C.
4.9 Cleaning, Maintenance, and Repair
WARNING
■ Abrasive cleaning agents, using a water jet for cleaning or sharp objects
may result in damage to the double-battery compartment and battery. If the
double-battery compartment or battery is not cleaned correctly, components may
no longer operate correctly and safety devices may be disabled. There is a
risk of serious injury to persons.
► Clean the double-battery compartment and battery as described in this
instruction manual.
■ If the double-battery compartment or battery is not maintained or repaired
correctly, components may no longer operate correctly and safety devices may
be disabled. This may result in a serious or fatal injury to people.
► Do not maintain or repair the double-battery compartment or battery
yourself.
► If the double-battery compartment or battery needs to be maintained or
repaired: consult a STIHL specialist dealer.
Preparing the Double-battery Compartment for Operation
5.1 Preparing the Double-battery Compartment for Operation
The following steps must be performed before commencing work:
► Check the battery 8.1.
► Charge the battery fully as described in the instruction manual for the
STIHL AL 101, 300, and 500 chargers.
► Clean the double-battery compartment 12.1.
► Make sure that the following components are in safe condition:
– Double-battery compartment 4.5.1.
– Battery 4.5.2.
► If the steps cannot be performed: do not use the double-battery compartment
and consult a STIHL specialist dealer.
Displaying the Charge State and LEDs
6.1 Displaying the Charge State
► Press button (1).
The LEDs illuminate green for approx. 5 seconds to indicate the charge state.
► If the right LED flashes green: charge the battery.
6.2 LEDs on Battery
The LEDs can show the state of charge or malfunctions. The LEDs can glow or
flash green or red.
The state of charge is indicated when the LEDs glow or flash green.
► If the LEDs glow or flash red: Troubleshooting ****14.
There is a malfunction in the cordless product or battery.
Inserting and Removing the Double-battery Compartment
7.1 Inserting the Double-battery
Compartment
A battery must be inserted in battery compartment 1; battery compartment 2 can
remain empty if necessary.
► Switch off the cordless product.
► Insert double-battery compartment (1).
► Push battery (2) into the battery compartment (3) as far as it will go.
Battery (2) engages with a click.
► Connect the double-battery compartment as described in the instruction
manual for the cordless product.
7.2 Removing the Double-battery Compartment
► Switch off the cordless product.
► Disconnect the double-battery compartment as described in the instruction
manual for the cordless product.
► Press locking lever (1).
Battery (2) is released and can be removed.
► Press locking lever (1).
Double-battery compartment (2) is released and can be removed.
Testing the Battery
8.1 Testing the Battery
► Press the button on the battery. The LEDs glow or flash.
► If the LEDs do not glow or flash: Do not use the battery and contact your
STIHL servicing dealer.
There is a malfunction in the battery.
After Finishing Work
9.1 After Finishing Work
► Switch off the cordless product.
► Remove the battery.
► Remove the double-battery compartment from the cordless product.
► If the battery is wet: allow the battery to dry.
► Clean the double-battery compartment.
► Clean the battery.
Transporting
10.1 Transporting the Double-battery Compartment
► Switch off the cordless product.
► Remove the battery.
► Remove the double-battery compartment.
10.2 Transporting the Battery
► Remove the battery.
► Make sure the battery is in a safe condition.
► Observe the following points when packing the battery:
– The packaging must be non-conductive.
– Make sure the battery cannot shift inside the packaging.
► Secure the packaging so that it cannot move.
The battery is subject to the requirements for the transport of dangerous
goods. The battery is classified as UN 3480 (lithium-ion batteries) and has
been tested in accordance with the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III,

Storing
11.1 Storing the Double-battery Compartment
► Switch off the cordless product.
► Remove the battery.
► Remove the double-battery compartment.
► Store the double-battery compartment in accordance with the following
conditions:
– The double-battery compartment is out of the reach of children.
– The double-battery compartment is clean and dry.
11.2 Storing the Battery
STIHL recommends that you store the battery with a charge between 40% and 60%
(2 LEDs glow green).
► Observe the following points when storing the battery:
– Battery is out of the reach of children.
– Battery is clean and dry.
– Battery is in an enclosed space.
– Battery is stored separately from the product.
– Battery is in non-conductive packaging.
– Battery is in a temperature range between -10°C and +50°C.
Cleaning
12.1 Cleaning the Double-battery Compartment
► Switch off the cordless product.
► Remove the battery.
► Remove the double-battery compartment.
► Clean the double-battery compartment with a damp cloth.
► Clean the electrical contacts of the double-battery compartment with a
paintbrush or a soft brush.
12.2 Cleaning the Battery
► Clean the battery with a damp cloth.
Maintenance and Repairs
13.1 Maintaining and Repairing the double-battery Compartment
The double-battery compartment does not need to be maintained and cannot be
repaired.
► If the double-battery compartment is defective or damaged: have the double-
battery compartment replaced by a STIHL specialist dealer.
13.2 Servicing and Repairing the Battery
The battery requires no servicing and cannot be repaired.
► If the battery has a malfunction or is damaged:
Replace the battery.
Troubleshooting
14.1 Remedying Cordless Product, Double-battery Compartment or Battery Faults

3 LEDs illuminate red.| The cordless product is overheated.| ►Remove the
battery.
►Allow the cordless product to cool down.
| The electrical connection between the cord-less product and the battery has
been interrupted.| ►Remove the battery.
►Clean the electrical contacts of the double-battery compartment.
►Fit the battery.
►If the cordless product still does not start when switched on or still
switches off during operation: clean the contact surfaces of the double-
battery compartment.
| The cordless product or battery is damp.| ►Allow the cordless product or
battery to dry.
The cordless pro- duct operating time is too short.| | The battery is over-
heated.| ►Remove the battery.
►Allow the battery to cool down.
