LASER WARNING

FUR128 Furious Three RG Eliminator Lighting Projector - FIG
4

After completing setup, and before public use, test the laser to ensure proper function. Do not use it if any defects are detected. Do not use if the laser emits only a few laser beams rather than dozens/hundreds, as this could indicate damage to the diffraction grating optic, and could allow emission of laser intensity levels that exceed Class 3R.

  • Do not point lasers at people or animals. Never look into the laser aperture or directly at laser beams.

  • Do not point lasers into areas that could create instances of unintentional or harmful exposure, such as uncontrolled balconies, etc.

  • Do not point lasers at highly reflective surfaces, such as windows, mirrors, and shiny metal. Even laser reflections can be hazardous.

  •  Never point a laser at aircraft. This is a federal offense.

  • Never point un-terminated laser beams into the sky.

  • Do not expose the output optic (aperture) to cleaning chemicals.

  • Do not use a laser if the laser appears to be emitting only a few beams.

  • Do not use the laser if the housing is damaged, the housing is open, or if the optics appear damaged in any way.

  • Never open the laser housing. The high laser power levels inside of the protective housing can start fires, burn skin, and will cause instantaneous eye injury.

  • Never leave this device running unattended.

  • The operation of a class 3R laser show is only allowed if the show is controlled by a skilled and well-trained operator who is familiar with the information enclosed in this manual.

  • The legal requirements for using laser entertainment products vary from country to country.
The user is responsible for determining the legal requirements at the location/country of use.

  • Always use proper lighting safety cables when hanging lights and effects overhead.

INSTALLATION

FLAMMABLE MATERIAL WARNING
Keep fixture at least 7.9in. (0.2m) away from any flammable materials, decorations, pyrotechnics, etc.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
A qualified electrician should be used for all electrical connections and/or installations.
THE MINIMUM DISTANCE TO OBJECTS/SURFACES MUST BE 40 FEET (12 METERS)
MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE OF EXTERNAL SURFACE 167°F (75°C)

DO NOT INSTALL THE FIXTURE IF YOU ARE NOT QUALIFIED TO DO SO!

Fixtures MUST be installed following all local, national, and country commercial electrical and construction codes and regulations. Before rigging/mounting the fixture to any metal truss/structure or placing the fixture on any surface, a professional equipment installer MUST be consulted to determine if the metal truss/structure or surface is properly certified to safely hold the combined weight of the fixture, clamps, cables, and accessories.

Overhead fixture installation must always be secured with a secondary safety attachment, such as an appropriately rated safety cable that meets all local, national, and country codes and regulations.

The fixture’s ambient operating temperature range is -4°F to 104°F. (-20°C to 40°C) Do not use this fixture outside this temperature range.

The fixture should be installed in areas outside walking paths, seating areas, or away from areas where unauthorized personnel might reach the fixture by hand.

NEVER stand directly below the fixture when rigging, removing, or servicing.

Allow approximately 15-minutes for the fixture to cool down before servicing.

CLAMP INSTALLATION
This fixture features a mounting clamp attachment point, which is located on the mounting yoke, as well as a safety cable rigging point, located on the rear face of the unit near the power connection (see the illustration below). When mounting the fixture to a truss or any other suspended or overhead installation, be sure to secure an appropriately rated clamp (not included) to the clamp attachment point and attach a separate SAFETY CABLE of the appropriate safety rating to the safety cable rigging point.

FUR128 Furious Three RG Eliminator Lighting Projector - FIG
7 *SAFETY CABLE
ALWAYS ATTACH A SAFETY CABLE WHENEVER INSTALLING THIS FIXTURE IN A SUSPENDED ENVIRONMENT TO ENSURE THE FIXTURE WILL NOT DROP IF THE CLAMP FAILS.

RIGGING
Overhead rigging requires extensive experience, including but not limited to: calculating working load limits, understanding the installation material being used, and periodic safety inspection of all installation material and the fixture itself. If you lack these qualifications, do not attempt to perform the installation yourself. Improper installation can result in bodily injury.

DMX SETUP

DMX-512: DMX is short for Digital Multiplex. This is a universal protocol used as a form of communication between intelligent fixtures and controllers. A DMX controller sends DMX data instructions from the controller to the fixture. DMX data is sent as serial data that travels from fixture to fixture via the DATA “IN” and DATA “OUT” XLR terminals located on all DMX fixtures (most controllers only have a DATA “OUT” terminal).

DMX Linking: DMX is a language allowing all makes and models of different manufacturers to be linked together and operate from a single controller, as long as all fixtures and the controller are DMX compliant. To ensure proper DMX data transmission, when using several DMX fixtures try to use the shortest cable path possible. The order in which fixtures are connected in a DMX line does not influence the DMX addressing. For example, a fixture assigned a DMX address of 1 may be placed anywhere in a DMX line: at the beginning, at the end, or anywhere in the middle. When a fixture is assigned a DMX address of 1, the DMX controller knows to send DATA assigned to address 1 to that unit, no matter where it is located in the DMX chain.

Data Cable (DMX Cable) Requirements (For DMX Operation): This device can be controlled via the DMX-512 protocol. The DMX address is set using the display screen on the back of the device. Your unit and your DMX controller require a standard 3-pin XLR connector for data input and data output (Figure 1). We recommend Accu-Cable DMX cables. If you are making your own cables, be sure to use standard 110120 Ohm shielded cable (This cable may be purchased at almost all pro lighting stores). Your cables should be made with a male XLR connector on one end and a female XLR connector on the other. Also, remember that the DMX cable must be daisy-chained and cannot be split.

FUR128 Furious Three RG Eliminator Lighting Projector - FIG
8

Notice: Be sure to follow figures two and three when making your own cables. Do not use the ground lug on the XLR connector. Do not connect the cable’s shield conductor to the ground lug or allow the shield conductor to come in contact with the XLR’s outer casing. Grounding the shield could cause a short circuit and erratic behavior.

XLR Pin Configuration

Pin 1 = Ground
Pin 2 = Data Compliment (negative)
Pin 3 = Data True (positive)

Special Note: Line Termination. When longer runs of cable are used, you may need to use a terminator on the last unit to avoid erratic behavior. A terminator is a 110-120 ohm 1/4 watt resistor that is connected between pins 2 and 3 of a male XLR connector (DATA + and DATA -). This unit is inserted in the female XLR connector of the last unit in your daisy chain to terminate the line. Using a cable terminator (ADJ part number Z-DMX/T) will decrease the possibility of erratic behavior.

A DMX512 terminator reduces signal errors, avoiding most signal reflection interference. Connect PIN 2 (DMX-) and PIN 3 (DMX+) of the last fixture in series with a 120 Ohm, 1/4 W Resistor to terminate the DMX512.

FUR128 Furious Three RG Eliminator Lighting Projector - FIG
11 5-Pin XLR DMX Connectors: Some manufacturers use 5-pin DMX- 512 data cables for DATA transmission in place of 3-pin. 5-pin DMX fixtures may be integrated into a 3-pin DMX line with a 5-pin to 3-pin adapter cable. Although these adapters are available at most electric stores, one can be assembled using the conversion chart.

DMX ADDRESSING

All fixtures should be given a DMX starting address when operating with a DMX controller, in order to ensure that the correct fixture responds to the correct control signal. This digital starting address is the channel number from which the fixture starts to “listen” to the digital control signal sent out from the DMX controller. This starting DMX address is assigned by setting the correct DMX address on the digital control display on the fixture.

You can set the same starting address for all fixtures or a group of fixtures, or set different addresses for each individual fixture. Setting all fixtures to the same DMX address will cause all fixtures to react in the same way. In this case, please note that changing the settings of one channel will affect all the fixtures simultaneously.

If you set each fixture to a different DMX address, each unit will start to “listen” to the channel number you have set, based on the quantity of DMX channels of each fixture. That means changing the settings of one channel will only affect the selected fixture.

As an example, since this device has 9 DMX channels, you should set the starting DMX address of the first unit to 1, the second unit to 10 (1 + 9), and the third unit to 19 (1+ 9 + 9), and so on.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

DISCONNECT POWER BEFORE PERFORMING ANY CLEANING OR MAINTENANCE!

CLEANING

Frequent cleaning is recommended to ensure proper function, optimized light output, and extended life. The frequency of cleaning depends on the environment in which the device operates: damp, smoky, or particularly dirty environments can cause a greater accumulation of dirt on the fixture housing and/or light fixture optics. Clean the external surface and the front lens of the device periodically with a soft cloth to avoid dirt/debris accumulation

NEVER use alcohol, solvents, or ammonia-based cleaners.

MAINTENANCE
Regular inspections are recommended to ensure proper function and extended life. There are no user-serviceable parts inside these devices; please refer all other service issues to Eliminator Lighting. Should you need any spare parts, please order genuine parts from Eliminator Lighting.

Please refer to the following points during routine inspections:

  • A detailed review should be performed by an approved electrical engineer every three months, to make sure the circuit contacts are in good condition in order to prevent overheating.
  • Be sure all screws and fasteners are securely tightened at all times. Loose screws may fall out during normal operation, resulting in damage or injury as larger parts could fall.
  • Check for any deformations on the unit. Deformations could allow for dust to enter the device or cause the device to fall and seriously injure a person(s).
  • Electric power supply cables must not show any damage, material fatigue, or sediments.

FUSE REPLACEMENT
This device features a replaceable fuse located alongside the Power Input on the back side of the device. To access the fuse, use a flat head screwdriver to catch the groove in the wall of the Power Input. BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE FUSE CLIP, THE POWER INPUT, OR THE PRONGS. When replacing the fuse, be sure to replace the correct one, as the fuse clip contains both an operational fuse and a spare fuse. Replace the fuse only with an identical F2A 250V fuse.
