Introduction

AM/FM Portable Radio Built for Emergency Use and Long-Range Reception! Two reasons to acquire a better-built portable radio are reception and audio. The CCRadio line from C. Crane has had some of the best AM reception in radio for over ten years. Audio can now be accurately tuned for a genuine human voice using the new CCRadio-2 Enhanced version. Additionally, it can be altered for optimal musical performance! The capacity of FM reception to clearly pick up a weak signal has significantly improved. Along the 2-meter Ham band, the CCRadio-2E Enhanced also has a weather alert band. Instead of using the front- mounted buttons, the five memory buttons on top of the radio make switching stations easier.

An improvement in AM performance originates from the Twin-Coil Ferrite AM Antenna invented by C. Crane. In most cases, this technology can provide weak AM signals a substantial boost. The CCRadio-2E analyses the signal for a few seconds after you choose a station before locking it in for the best signal. The display has a full backlight, three brightness levels, and a “off” position. You can stay informed of any NOAA notifications with the Weather Band. The CCRadio-2E could save lives in an emergency thanks to the 2-Meter Ham band.

UNPACKING

The box should contain the CCRadio2E, AC power cord, this manual, and a warranty card. If anything is missing or damaged, please contact C. Crane immediately. We recommend that you keep the box in the unlikely event that your radio needs servicing.

POWERING YOUR RADIO

The CCRadio2E will run on (4) “D” size NiMH or alkaline batteries or on 120V AC house current using the included power cord. Batteries are optional. The batteries are necessary to retain the timer, clock, and memory settings if the power cord is removed from the radio for more than three minutes. Lithium batteries are not recommended as this may cause damage to the radio.

INSTALLING THE BATTERIES

  1. Position the radio face down on a soft surface to protect it.
  2. Remove the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert the (4) “D” cell batteries into the compartment as indicated in the drawing below. Be sure the negative(-) end is against the spring. Refer to the drawing below to insure correct installation of your batteries.
  4. Replace the battery cover. You are now ready to operate your radio.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • True? Just 5 memory presets/band-at this price? What’s ^ the point of being able to pull in so many stations w/just 5 presets? My clock radio has 12/band!
Yes, just 5 memory presets. We agree with you and we will eventually come out with a similar radio with more presets. We understand the radio market has been jumbled in recent years which makes more presets a requirement. Most people purchase it for the reception, audio, and other features.

  • Is am reception as good as FM?
Before the birth of XM, I bought the initial version of this radio to listen to baseball games late at night I live in Utah. I had no problem receiving stations in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Denver. Each station locked in far better than any radio I had ever owned including a shortwave. My radio is now 14 years old and I still use it–with XM when I work in my backyard garden. Keep in mind, that the XM is in the house–sending a weak signal over an FM band. BEST AM/FM RADIO EVER for reception purposes. Has great sound and very easy on batteries still using a set of rechargeable batteries I bought in 2000! 14 years and still humming.

  • The picture on the sight shows the radio 2 Is this model the enhanced 2E
Turn the radio off. Hold down the Band button, if the display shows 103 or 114 it is an enhanced model. ( Info from CCrane Co.)

  • Just received my radio today. Plug it in and the power switch does nothing. It won’t work. Help?
You have the radio locked on. It is the small tab inside a 3/8 inch indentation above the volume control. It says lock and should be in the off position to power up the radio.

  • HD-enabled? If not, weird that HD is slow to catch on here. Available in some cheaper radios. HD=big AM sounds quality improvement on stronger signals.
Our radio is not HD enabled. HD AM radio has some quandaries for many people who listen to the radio. The audio is fantastic but only if you are relatively close to the station. This can reduce a station’s broadcast area and listenership dramatically. Since it is digital it is like TV, it is either on or off which can be annoying while moving around. The technology has a several-second delay in a broadcast so its use in “live” sports broadcasts can be limited. There can also be a digital hash noise created by the HD signal which can reduce clear reception of the other stations that are the next-door neighbor of the HD station on the dial. If they figure a way to improve these concerns, we will be there.

  • Does this have a filter to eliminate static from nearby electrical appliances such as washers/dryers in the next room?
You’ve hit on a major issue for AM radio reception, which is how well it is shielded, internally, from local sources of interference. There are so many devices in our technology-driven modern households that AM radio reception is often difficult. You can purchase ferrite filters that clamp onto the power cord where it enters your radio/device to help “reject” this kind of interference but oftentimes it is necessary to try to track down the offending device and replace it. At present, I have an air purifier and a t-stat that puts out a lot of RFI and messes with any radio that’s tuned to AM. It doesn’t matter how good the AM is engineered to pull in reception if the problem is interference arising from USB chargers, appliances, and the like.

  • What kind of AM sound does this unit have? Do you consider it rich and bass-heavy or a brighter, crisp sound?
The quality of sound from the few AM stations this radio can pick up is fair. My main complaint of this receiver is its range. I live on Maui, Hawaii and it is not capable of picking up many of the stations on this small island. This is less than 150 miles from Honolulu on Oahu with many AM stations. There is no reception from this distance. To put this in perspective, I exercise by walking with an old $20 radio headset. The reception from this radio is better than the 2E. I’m very disappointed with the Crane radio.

  • I have this radio n anyone know if this plug-in is a 3.5mm jack plug.
    Yes, 3.5 mm stereo jack.

  • I have this radio its great trying to find out does the. Plug. Or jack that is 3.5 mm jack
If this is for the headphones the jack is 1/8″ .

  • Does this radio have one alarm clock setting or capable of two?
Have only tried one setting, so I don’t know. I seldom use the alarm feature. The radio is a listen-in-the-night radio for beside my bed with earphones so as not to upset or awaken my wife. Only tried the alarm when I first bought it. Best radio on the market since Grundig’s European made similar sized and featured product. The Grundig now made in China is not a quality product. I have one and don’t use it. C Crane is the best on the market now.
