Behaviour in case of emergency
Apply the first aid adequate to the injury and get qualified medical
assistance as quickly as possible. Protect the injured person from more
accidents and calm him/her down.
For the sake of eventual accident, in accordance with DIN 13164, a
workplace has to be fitted with a first-aid kit. It is essential to replace
any used material in the first-aid kit immediately after it has been used. If
you seek help, state the following pieces of information:
- Accident site
- Accident type
- Number of injured persons
- Injury type(s)
Use as designated
The electric pole chain saw has been designed for treating trees and wood species for private purposes. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for any damage if provisions of generally applicable regulations and these Operating Instructions are not followed.
Area of use:
Care of wood species with height of up to app. 5-6 m, depending on the body
height.
Disposal
The disposal instructions are based on icons placed on the appliance or its package. The description of the meanings can be found in the “Marking” section.
Transport package disposal
The package protects the appliance against damage during transport. Packing materials are usually chosen depending on their environmental friendliness and disposal method and can therefore be recycled. Returning the package to material circulation saves raw materials and reduces waste disposal costs. Parts of packages (e.g. foils, styropor®) can be dangerous to children. Risk of suffocation! Keep parts of packages away from children and dispose them as soon as possible.
Operator requirements
The operator must carefully read the Operating Instructions before using the appliance.
Qualification
No special qualification is necessary for using the appliance apart from detailed instruction by an expert.
Minimum age
The appliance can only be operated by persons over 18 years of age. An exception includes youngsters operating the appliance within their professional education to achieve necessary skills under trainer’s supervision.
Training
Using the appliance only requires appropriate instructions by a professional or reading the Operating Instructions. No special training necessary.
Transport and storage
If the saw is to be stored for more than 30 days, the following steps need to be taken:
- Drain the oil tank.
- Remove and clean the chain bar and chain. Clean the chain bar and chain by soaking to kerosene solvent or fine soap water.
- Dry the chain bar and chain out.
- Put the chain to a tank filled with oil. This will prevent corrosion.
- Apply a thin oil layer on the chain bar.
- Wipe the outer part of the saw body with a soft cloth soaked to fine soap water.
- Store the chain saw in an elevated and locked place inaccessible to children.
- Store the chain saw in a dry place in a plastic bag or with a cover on the chain bar.
Names and terms
Chain bar: Metal rail protruding from the saw body: The chain bar
supports and guides the chain.
Backlash: There may be a dangerous backlash when the upper quadrant of
the chain bar point touches an item while the chain is moving. The chain bar
gets suddenly shot up and towards the operator.
Oil lubrication system: Chain bar and chain lubrication system.
Saw chain (chain): Chain loop with cutting teeth that cut wood. The chain
is engine-powered. The chain leans against the chain bar.
Chain wheel: Gear wheel driving the chain.
Switch: A device closing or opening the electrical circuit to the saw
engine.
Switch fuse: A device eliminating unattended saw starting.
Starter: A device switching the saw on and off. The saw is started by
pressing the starter. The saw is switched off by releasing the starter.
Sawing out (pruning): Steps for cutting branches on a living tree.
Bottom cut: Upward guided cut from the bottom side of the tree trunk or
branch. Performed in a standard cutting position and with the chain bar point
cut.
Safety instructions for the operator
- Do not use the appliance before reading carefully the Operating Instructions.
- Follow all safety instructions included in the Operating Instructions.
- Behave responsibly to other persons.
- Walk, do not run when working.
- Use the right working clothes at all times.
Operation
-
Connect the saw with the extension cable. Plug the extension cable.
-
Use both hands to hold the saw. When operating the chain saw ( pic. 10 ), use only the specified points of gripping. Hold the saw properly. Thumbs and fingers must embrace the chain saw handle and pole.
-
Make sure your legs are positioned properly. Distribute your weight evenly to both legs.
-
To start the appliance, press the stop first and then On/Off. By this, the chain saw will be started. The chain saw gets switched off by releasing On/Off. Make sure the saw runs at full speed before performing first cut.
CAUTION: To support the saw, use the stop surface on the cutting head at all times!
After starting the cut, guide the rotating chain to the wood. Keep the chain saw firmly in hands to prevent any rejection or slip (lateral movement) of the saw. -
Guide the chain saw with slight pressure. Do not overload the chain saw. Otherwise, the engine may get overloaded and burn down. The saw works better and safer at the specified speed.
-
Move away from the cut with the chain saw when still running at full speed. Switch the chain saw off by pressing the starter. The chain saw must be stopped to the full extent before being put away.
CAUTION:
- Prevent any backlash. A backlash may cause serious injuries.
- Do not use the chain saw when standing on a ladder or any other unstable equipment and when in an unstable position.
- Contact a professional to help you if circumstances require use of bigger appliances.
Servicing and treatment
CAUTION: Follow the chain saw servicing instructions. Servicing works
specified in the instructions must be performed by an authorised service
centre.
CAUTION: Unplug the chain saw before any servicing. Electric shock or
contact with the rotating chain could cause serious injuries. The cutting
edges are sharp.
Wear protective gloves when handling the chain.
Saw body cleaning
Keep the saw body clean. Use a soft cloth soaked in fine soap water. Use the soft cloth to wipe the saw body. Do not plunge the saw to liquids. Do not use cleaners containing ammonia, chlorine or emery. Do not use clearing baths containingchlorine, carbon tetrachloride or petrol.
Oil tank filling
- Remove the oil tank cover (pic. 2/1).
- Add biodegradable oil for chains to the oil tank (pic. 2/2).
- Refit the oil tank cover (pic. 2/1). Tighten the oil tank cover (pic. 2/1). This will prevent oil from leaking from the tank.
- Wipe any excess oil. Drain the oil tank (pic. (2/2) after each use to prevent it from overflowing.
Chain bar treatment
Uneven wear is the cause of the most frequent problems with the chain bar. An
unauthorised treatment of cutting elements of the chain and improper depth
limiter grinding may amplify that.
If this is the case, replace the chain bar. Check the chain bar before saw
sharpening. A worn-out or damaged chain bar is not safe and damages the chain,
which is why it must not be used!
Regular chain bar servicing
- Remove the chain bar off the chain saw.
- From time to time, remove the wood flour from the chain bar notch. In doing so, use the glazing or wire knife.
- Oil grooves to be cleaned after the day when used.
- Remove any inequality on sides of the chain bar. Use a blunt file for flat filing of edges.
- Do not fit the chain bar if bent or cracked or if the inner rail notch is significantly worn-out.
Do not use clearing baths containing chlorine, carbon tetrachloride or petrol. The chain bar that is to be replaced can be received as a spare part.
Saw chain sharpening
The chain must always be sharp!
Cutting is then faster and safer. A blunt chain causes useless wear of the
chain wheel, chain bar, chain and the engine. The chain is blunt if it needs
to be pressed to the wood and the cutting results in wood flour and some
bigger fractions.
Saw chain changing
Change the chain if the cutting elements are too worn-out after repeated
sharpening or if the chain faces a risk of breaking. A spare chain mentioned
in these Operating Instructions to be used only. The chain wheel must also be
changed when changing the chain. By this, the chain will be driven properly.
Do not use clearing baths containing chlorine, carbon tetrachloride or
petrol. The chain and chain wheel can be received as a spare part and
accessory equipment.
