General Power Tool Safety

Warnings

The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

Work Area Safety

Keep work area clean and well-lit – Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust – Power tools create sparks that may ignite the dust or fumes.
Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool – Distractions can cause you to lose control.

Electrical Safety

Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce the risk of electric shock.
Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators – There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions

Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling, or unplugging the power tool.

Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.

When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. The use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protected supply. The use of a GFCI reduces the risk of electric shock.

Personal Safety

Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication – A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection Safety equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source, picking up or carrying the tool. – Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energizing power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to
a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times – This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts – Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
Only use safety equipment that has been approved by an appropriate standards agency – Unapproved safety equipment may not provide adequate protection. Eye protection must be ANSI-approved and breathing protection must be NIOSH-approved for the specific hazards in the work area.
If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
Do not let familiarity gained from the frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

Power Tool Use + Care

Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application – The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off – Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
Disconnect the plug from the power source from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools – Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool – Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use – Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits, etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed.
Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean, and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.

Service

Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

Electrical Safety

Ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protection should be provided on the circuit(s) or outlet(s) to be used for this electric Buffer + Polisher. Receptacles are available having built-in GFCI protection and may be used for this measure of safety.
Make sure that the mains voltage matches that listed on the unit’s rating label. Using the improper voltage can damage the Buffer + Polisher and injure the user.
To prevent electric shock, use only an extension cord suitable for indoor use only, such as SW-A, SOW-A, STW-A, STOW-A, SJW-A, SJOW-A, SJTW-A, or SJTOW-A.
Before use, check that the extension cord is in good condition. When using an extension cord, make sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw. An undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating.

WARNING

Electric shock may cause SEVERE INJURY or DEATH. Heed these warnings :

Do not allow any part of the electric Buffer + Polisher to make contact with water while it is in operation. If the appliance becomes wet while turned off, wipe dry before starting.
Do not use an extension cord over 10 ft. The Buffer + Polisher comes equipped with an 11.8 in. power cable. Combined cord length must not exceed 11 ft.
Any extension cord must be 18-gauge (or heavier) to safely power the Buffer + Polisher.
Do not touch the appliance or its plug with wet hands or while standing in water. Wearing rubber boots offers some protection.

To prevent the appliance cord from disconnecting from the extension cord during operation, make a knot with the two cords as shown in

Do not abuse the cord. Never pull the Buffer + Polisher by the cord or yank the cord to disconnect it from the receptacle. Keep the cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance has a polarized plug (i.e. one blade is wider than the other). Use this appliance only with a polarized UL-, CSA- or ETL listed extension cord. The appliance plug will fit into a polarized extension cord only one way. If the appliance plug does not fit fully into the extension cord, reverse the plug. If the plug still does not fit, obtain a correct polarized extension cord. A polarized extension cord will require the use of a polarized wall outlet. The extension cord plug will fit into the polarized wall outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the wall outlet, reverse the plug. If the plug still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper wall outlet. Do not modify the appliance plug, extension cord receptacle or extension cord plug in any way.
Double insulation – In a double-insulated appliance, two systems of insulation are provided instead of grounding. No grounding means is provided on a double-insulated appliance, nor should a means for grounding be added
to the appliance. Servicing a double-insulated appliance requires extreme care and knowledge of the system,
and should be performed only by qualified service personnel at an authorized Snow Joe® + Sun Joe® dealer. Replacement parts for a double-insulated appliance must be identical to the parts they replace. A double-insulated appliance is marked with the words “Double Insulation” or “Double Insulated.” The symbol (square within a square) may also be marked on the appliance.
If the replacement of the supply cord is necessary, this has to be done by the manufacturer or his agent in order to avoid a safety hazard.

Safety Warnings Common for Polishing Operations
The manufacturer will not be held responsible for injuries resulting from incorrect use of the device or from use that does not comply with the directions.

This power tool is intended to function as a polisher. Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
Operations such as grinding, sanding, wire brushing, or cutting-off are not recommended to be performed with this power tool. Operations for which the power tool was not designed may create a hazard and cause personal injury.
Do not use accessories which are not specifically designed and recommended by the tool manufacturer. Just because the accessory can be attached to your power tool, it does not assure safe operation.
The rated speed of the accessory must be at least equal to the maximum speed marked on the power tool. Accessories running faster than their RATED SPEED can break and fly apart.
The outside diameter and the thickness of your accessory must be within the capacity rating of your power tool. Incorrectly sized accessories cannot be adequately guarded or controlled.
The arbor size of wheels, flanges, backing pads or any other accessory must properly fit the spindle of the power tool. Accessories with arbor holes that do not match the mounting hardware of the power tool will run out of balance, vibrate excessively and may cause loss of control.
Do not use a damaged accessory. Before each use inspect the accessory such as abrasive wheels for chips and cracks, backing pad for cracks, tear or excess wear, wire brush for loose or cracked wires. If power tool or accessory is dropped, inspect for damage or install an undamaged accessory. After inspecting and installing an accessory, position yourself and bystanders away from the plane of the rotating accessory and run the power tool at maximum no-load speed for one minute. Damaged accessories will normally break apart during this test time.
Wear personal protective equipment. Depending on the application, use a face shield, safety goggles, or safety glasses. As appropriate, wear a dust mask, hearing protectors, gloves, and workshop apron capable of stopping small abrasive or workpiece fragments. The eye protection must be capable of stopping flying debris generated by various operations. The dust mask or respirator must be capable of filtering out particles generated by your operation. Prolonged exposure to high-intensity noise may cause hearing loss.
Keep bystanders a safe distance away from the work area. Anyone entering the work area must wear personal protective equipment. Fragments of workpieces or of a broken accessory may fly away and cause injury beyond the immediate area of operation.
Position the cord clear of the spinning accessory. If you lose control, the cord may be cut or snagged and your hand or arm may be pulled into the spinning accessory.
Never lay the power tool down until the accessory has come to a complete stop. The spinning accessory may grab the surface and pull the power tool out of your control.
Do not run the power tool while carrying it at your side. Accidental contact with the spinning accessory could snag your clothing, pulling the accessory into your body
Regularly clean the power tool’s air vents. The motor’s fan will draw dust inside the housing and excessive accumulation of powdered metal may cause electrical hazards.
Do not operate the power tool near flammable materials. Sparks could ignite these materials.
Maintain labels and nameplates on the tool.
These carry important safety information. If unreadable or missing, contact Snow Joe® + Sun Joe® for a replacement.
Avoid unintentional starting. Prepare to begin work before turning on the tool.
Do not leave the tool unattended when it is plugged into an electrical outlet. Turn off the tool, and unplug it from its electrical outlet before leaving.
Use clamps (not included) or other practical ways to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding the work by hand or against your body is unstable and may lead to loss of control and personal injury.
This product is not a toy. Keep it out of reach of children.
People with pacemakers should consult their physician(s) before use. Electromagnetic fields in close proximity to the heart pacemaker could cause pacemaker interference or pacemaker failure.
In addition, people with pacemakers should:
Avoid operating alone.
Do not use it with the power switch locked on.
Properly maintain and inspect to avoid electrical shock.
Properly ground power cord. Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) should also be implemented –
it prevents sustained electrical shock.
The warnings, precautions, and instructions discussed in this instruction manual cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be understood by the operator that common sense and caution are factors that cannot be built into this product but must be supplied by the operator.

Kickback and Related Warnings
Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched or snagged rotating wheel, backing pad, brush or any other accessory. Pinching or snagging causes rapid stalling of the rotating accessory which in turn causes the uncontrolled power tool to be forced in the direction opposite of the accessory’s rotation at the point of the binding.
For example, if an abrasive wheel is snagged or pinched by the workpiece, the edge of the wheel that is entering into the pinch point can dig into the surface of the material causing the wheel to climb out or kick out. The wheel may either jump toward or away from the operator, depending on direction of the wheel’s movement at the point of pinching. Abrasive wheels may also break under these conditions. Kickback is the result of power tool misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below.

Maintain a firm grip on the power tool and position your body and arm to allow you to resist kickback forces. Always use auxiliary handle, if provided, for maximum control over kickback or torque reaction during start-up. The operator can control torque reactions or kickback forces, if proper precautions are taken.
Never place your hand near the rotating accessory. Accessory may kickback over your hand.
Do not position your body in the area where power tool will move if kickback occurs. Kickback will propel the tool in direction opposite to the wheel’s movement at the point of snagging.
Use special care when working corners, sharp edges etc. Avoid bouncing and snagging the accessory. Corners, sharp edges or bouncing have a tendency to snag the rotating accessory and cause loss of control or kickback.

Specific Safety Rules for Buffer + Polishers
Do not allow any loose portion of the Fleece Polishing Bonnet or its attachment strings to spin freely. Tuck away or trim any loose attachment strings. Loose and spinning attachment strings can entangle your fingers or snag on the workpiece.
Vibration Safety
This tool vibrates during use. Repeated or long-term exposure to vibration may cause temporary or permanent physical injury, particularly to the hands, arms and shoulders. To reduce the risk of vibration-related injury:

Anyone using vibrating tools regularly or for an extended period should first be examined by a doctor and then have regular medical check-ups to ensure medical problems are not being caused or worsened from use. Pregnant women or people who have impaired blood circulation to the hand, past hand injuries, nervous system disorders, diabetes, or Raynaud’s Disease should not use this tool. If you feel any medical or physical symptoms related to vibration (such as tingling, numbness, and white or blue fingers), seek medical advice as soon as possible.
Do not smoke during use. Nicotine reduces the blood supply to the hands and fingers, increasing the risk of vibration-related injury.
Wear suitable gloves to reduce the vibration effects on the user.
Use tools with the lowest vibration when there is a choice between different processes.
Include vibration-free periods each day of work.
Grip tool as lightly as possible (while still keeping safe control of it). Let the tool do the work.
To reduce vibration, maintain the tool as explained in this manual. If any abnormal vibration occurs, stop use immediately.

NOTE: Do not discard the shipping carton and packaging material until you are ready to use the Buffer + Polisher. The packaging is made of recyclable materials. Properly dispose of these materials in accordance with local regulations.

Assembly
This unit comes fully assembled and only requires a bonnet.
warning! Do not use this unit without either the buffing or the polishing bonnet. Failure to do so may result in damaging the polishing pad.

Operation

Starting + Stopping
warning! Damaged cords pose a severe risk of injury. Replace damaged cords immediately.

Make sure the work surface is thoroughly clean and clear of dust, dirt, oil, and grease.
Check that the power is off and unplug the polisher from its outlet.
Slip the clean Terrycloth Buffing Bonnet over the polishing pad (Fig. 1).
4. Apply about two tablespoons of wax (not included) onto the bonnet (Fig. 2).

NOTE: Do not apply wax directly to the surface to be waxed. Be careful not to use too much wax. The amount of wax will vary depending on the size of the waxing surface.

warning! To prevent electric shock, keep electrical connections off ground.
Buffing
CAUTION! Start and stop the tool only while it is held firmly against the waxing surface. Failure to do so may throw the bonnet from the polishing pad.

To start, position the unit on the area to be polished, grip the tool firmly and press the ON/OFF button once to turn it ON. To stop, press the ON/OFF button (Fig. 3).

WARNING! The unit takes some time to come to a complete stop. Allow the Buffer + Polisher to come to a complete stop before putting it down.

6. Maintain LIGHT contact between the Terrycloth Buffing Bonnet and the polishing surface.

warning! Only place the unit flat against the surface, never at an angle. Failure to do so may cause damage to the Terrycloth Buffing Bonnet, the Fleece Polishing Bonnet,
the polishing pad, and the polishing surface.

Apply the wax with the polisher. Use broad, sweeping strokes in a crisscross pattern. Apply the wax evenly all over the polishing surface (Fig. 4).
Add additional wax to the terrycloth bonnet as needed. Avoid using too much wax. When dispensing additional wax, dispense smaller amounts at a time.

NOTE: Applying too much wax is a common error. If the Terrycloth Buffing Bonnet becomes saturated with wax, applying wax will be harder and will take longer. Applying too much wax may also reduce the life of the Terrycloth Buffing Bonnet. If the Terrycloth Buffing Bonnet continually comes off the polishing pad during use, too much wax may have been applied.

After the wax has been applied to the work surface, turn off the Buffer + Polisher and unplug the power cord from the extension cord.
Remove the Terrycloth Buffing Bonnet and by hand use the buffing bonnet to apply wax to any hard-to-reach areas such as around lights, under bumpers, around door handles, etc.
Allow enough time for the wax to dry.

Removing Wax and Polishing

Secure the clean Fleece Polishing Bonnet on the polishing pad (Fig. 5).
Turn the Buffer + Polisher on and begin to buff off the dried wax.
Stop and turn off the Buffer + Polisher when enough wax has been removed. Unplug the polisher once the unit has been turned off.
WARNING! Allow the Buffer + Polisher to come to a complete stop before putting it down.
Remove the Fleece Polishing Bonnet from the polishing pad. Using the Fleece Polishing Bonnet, remove the wax from all the hard-to-reach areas of the vehicle.

Maintenance

WARNING! Disconnect the power cord before performing any maintenance task. If the power is still connected, the unit could be accidentally turned on while you are performing maintenance on it, which could result in personal injury.

Examine the electric Buffer + Polisher thoroughly for worn, loose, or damaged parts. Should you need to repair or replace a part, contact an authorized Snow Joe® +
Sun Joe® dealer or call the Snow Joe® + Sun Joe® customer service center at 1-866-SNOW JOE (1-866-766-9563) for assistance.
Examine the appliance cord thoroughly for signs of excess wear or damage. If it is worn or damaged, replace it immediately.
After use, wipe the outside of the Buffer + Polisher with a clean cloth
When not in use, do not store either of the bonnets on the polishing pad. This will allow the pad to dry properly and retain its shape.
The Terrycloth Buffing Bonnet and Fleece Polishing Bonnet can be machine washed in cold water with detergent. Machine dry on medium heat.

Storage

Make sure the unit is OFF and the power cord is unplugged.
Remove all accessories from the Buffer + Polisher.
Wipe the cooling unit with a cloth and store the Buffer + Polisher and bonnets indoors in a clean, dry, and locked location out of reach of children and animals.

Transportation

Turn the product OFF.
Always carry the product by its handle.
Secure the product to prevent it from falling over or slipping.

Recycling + Disposal
The product comes in a package that protects it against damage during shipping. Keep the package until you are sure that all parts have been delivered and the product is functioning properly. Recycle the package afterward or keep it for long-term storage. WEEE symbol. Waste electrical products should not be disposed of with household waste. Please recycle where facilities exist. Check with your local authority or local store for recycling regulations.

Batteries are covered in full for 90-days from the date of purchase.
Snow Joe® + Sun Joe® may from time to time change the design of its products. Nothing contained in this warranty shall be construed as obligating Snow Joe® + Sun Joe® to incorporate such design changes into previously manufactured products, nor shall such changes be construed as an admission that previous designs were defective.
This warranty is intended to cover product defects only. Snow Joe®, LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages in connection with the use or misuse of the Snow Joe® + Sun Joe® products covered by this warranty. This warranty does not cover any cost or expense incurred by the purchaser in providing substitute equipment or service during reasonable periods of malfunction or non-use of this product while waiting for a replacement part or unit under this warranty. Some states do not allow exclusions of incidental or consequential damages so the above exclusions may not apply in all states. This warranty may give you specific legal rights in your state.
