Parking Brake Actuator Motor

Removal
NOTE : Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

  1. With the ehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
    Refer to: Jacking and Lifting- Overview (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).

  2. Disconnect the electrical connector and detach the wiring retainer.alldata-206-05-Parking-Brake-Actuator-Motor-fig1

  3. NOTE: If there is evidence of brake fluid tound in or around the parking brake actuator motor a new brakee caliper and actuator motor assembly must be installed.
    Remove the bolts and using a twisting motion, remove the parking brake actuator motor.
    Torque: 71 b.in (8 Nm)alldata-206-05-Parking-Brake-Actuator-Motor-

  4. Remove and discard the O-ring.alldata-206-05-Parking-Brake-Actuator-Motor-fig3

  5. Clean the brake caliper housing O-ring groove and apply the grease supplied with the parking kit.alldata-206-05-Parking-Brake-Actuator-Motor-fig4

Installation

  1. NOTE: Use the grease and new bolts supplied with the parking brake actuator motor kit.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure

General Procedures

Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) Manual Release

Activation
NOTE: If the EPB cannot be released using the switch carry out the following procedure. If the battery is dead, jump
start the battery to provide power and release the EPB using the switch.
NOTE: Typical parking brake actuator motor shown.

  1. Block the wheels and tires.
  2. Disconnect the parking brake actuator motor electrical connector and, if equipped, detach the wiring retainer.alldata-206-05-Parking-Brake-Actuator-Motor-fig5
  3. Remove the bolts and using a twisting motion, remove the parking brake actuator motor.alldata-206-05-Parking-Brake-Actuator-Motor-fig6
  4. Rotate the ball screw driveshaft clockwise 120 degrees.alldata-206-05-Parking-Brake-Actuator-Motor-fig7
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 on the opposite side of the vehicle.
  6. Install the parking brake actuator motors.
