Initial operation
Prior to the first use and after the device has not been operated for an extended period of time, run a brew cycle with fresh water without coffee grounds. To do so, fill the tank to no higher than the 10-cup mark (version with glass jug) or to the 8-cup mark (version with thermal jug), as otherwise the jug can overflow.
Setting the current time
After connecting the mains plug to a socket, the time appears on the display.
The standard time is set as 12:00. You can correct the set time at any time by
pressing the Timer symbol for at least three seconds. The dots between the
hours and the minutes start to flash. Press the + and – symbols to set the
correct time. Confirm the time by pressing the Timer symbol . If you do not
make any changes, after approximately 15 seconds the standard time is
displayed.
Note : The time must be reset after a power failure or after the mains
plug has been unplugged.
Coffee preparation
For easy filling of the water tank you can remove it. The lid on the water tank
can be removed. Only pour cold water into the tank. The water level indicator
is for the amount of fresh water that is needed to brew the desired number of
cups per 125 ml coffee.
In order to pour in the ground coffee, open the swing filter by pressing the
release button on the water tank. Place the paper filter of the 1 x 4 size into
the filter, but fold the stamped edge before doing so. The paper filter should
not protrude over the edge of the filter. If necessary, push it down slightly
with your hand.
Add the required amount of ground coffee. Depending on your personal taste,
use approximately 5–7 g of medium-fine ground coffee per cup. If it is ground
too finely, the filter can overflow.
Then close the swing filter. It will audibly click into place.
Immediate start
Briefly press the Start/Stop symbol if the coffee is to be prepared
immediately. The symbol lights up during the brewing process.
You can cancel the preparation at any time by pressing the Start/Stop symbol.
Wait a few minutes until all of the coffee has run into the jug. After
removing the jug, a drip-stop prevents coffee from dripping.
Timer function
The device’s timer function starts the brewing process automatically at the desired time. The switch-on time can be programmed up to 24 hours in advance.
Programming the switch-on time
Press the Timer symbol once briefly. The Timer symbol and the + and – symbols
light up. Set the desired switch-on time by pressing the + and – symbols and
confirm the switch-on time by pressing the Timer symbol .
If you do not press the Timer symbol to confirm the switch-on time, the dots
between the hours and the minutes on the display flash. After about 15 seconds,
the display switches back to the time without saving a switch-on time. To
activate the automatic brewing process, see the next section of the operating
instructions.
Note: The switch-on time must be reset after a power failure or after the
mains plug has been unplugged.
Activate timer function
-
If the preparation should start automatically at the programmed switch-on time, briefly press the Timer symbol . If the set time is correct, confirm this by briefly pressing the Start/Stop symbol.
-
The preparation begins automatically at the programmed switch-on time. The LED light ring is lit at full luminosity during the brewing process.
Note: Once the automatic switch-on time is activated, no other settings can be made. In order to make changes, you need to briefly press the Start/Stop symbol. The automatic switch-on is deactivated again. -
You can cancel the preparation at any time by pressing the Start/Stop symbol.
WMF Aroma Perfection
-
If you would like to prepare a strong aromatic coffee, you can activate the aroma function WMF Aroma Perfection. It is particularly recommended for preparing smaller amounts. To do so, press the Aroma symbol just before you begin the brew process with the Start/Stop symbol or activate the automatic switch-on.
-
The symbol remains lit until the preparation has ended.
Note: If you wait longer than about 5 seconds to start the brewing process or activate the automatic switch-on, the Aroma function deactivates again. -
Please note that the preparation time is slightly longer.
Automatic shut-off (only version with thermal jug)
- The automatic shut-off function prevents overheating when the device is in use. The device switches off only once all of the water has passed through the filter.
- It is possible to shut off the appliance early by pressing the Start/Stop symbol. This could be necessary if you accidentally start the coffee machine without water. Before filling a hot appliance, you must wait a few minutes and allow the coffee machine to cool down.
Keep-warm function (only version with glass jug)
Your device is fitted with a keep-warm function to maintain brewed coffee at serving temperature. The keep-warm function lasts for 40 minutes. You can deactivate the keep-warm function early by pressing the Start/Stop symbol.
Information about the Cromargan® thermal jug (only version with thermal jug)
Important: Do not use the jug to keep milk products or baby food warm due
to the risk of the build-up of bacteria. Do not heat the jug up in the
microwave or the oven. Do not use the jug to store or transport carbonated
drinks. After cleaning the jug, rinse
it carefully with clear water.
-
The jug is designed as a serving jug and best keeps the content warm when it is full. The time the content is kept warm may be reduced significantly if the jug is only partially filled or almost empty. It is best to rinse the jug with hot water before preparation.
-
For technical reasons, the seal from the brewing lid is not 100% tight so that it can be easily opened, even after the coffee cools down. Therefore, never lie the jug down to transport it, otherwise coffee could spill out. To close, tighten the lid only slightly. Only use the filled jug standing upright.
-
To pour, press the push button on the handle. Press it once to open the jug; you can now pour out the coffee. To check if the jug is open, there is a white mark on the top of the jug lid. Press the push button on the handle again to close the jug.
-
To open the jug turn the lid slightly counter-clockwise. After closing the lid, ensure that the pour button lines up with the jug handle.
-
The double-walled Cromargan® container is absolutely break-proof. Nevertheless, it should be pro-tected against mechanical stresses.
-
Rinse the jug regularly. If iron particles from water accumulate on the Cromargan® surface, they can create pitting at those points. These deposits must therefore be removed immediately with a stainless steel cleanser. Do not clean in the dishwasher or in rinsing water.
Note : Stubborn deposits can be removed using soda, dishwasher granules or denture cleansing tablets. -
Specific information about the light ring on the base of appliance
-
The light only serves as an information display and informs about the current status of the product.
- When the machine is ON, the base shines brightly.
- When the machine is OFF the base does not shine.
-
NOTE: This product contains a light source with energy efficiency class C. Please note that the light element in the product is not intended for lighting purposes. The light element may be replaced by authorized service personnel.
Activate/deactivate LED light ring
The LED light ring on your filter coffee machine is set to full luminosity by default and it lights up during the brewing process and when keeping the coffee warm. To change the setting of the LED light ring on your filter coffee machine, during standby mode press + and – simultaneously for at least three seconds. You have three options to choose from when you press the + and – buttons. Setting 0 means that the LED light ring is switched off. If you choose setting 1, the LED light ring lights up at 50% luminosity. If you choose setting 2, the LED light ring lights up at full luminosity (same as default setting). Press the ON/OFF symbol to confirm your selection.
Cleaning and care
Cleaning
- Pull out the mains plug and allow the appliance to cool down.
- Do not immerse the appliance in water. Outer surfaces can be cleaned using a damp cloth and a little washing-up liquid.
- Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaning agents.
- The filter, glass jug and thermal jug can be cleaned under running water.
Scale indicator
Limescale deposits lead to longer brewing times and lower the quality of your
coffee. They also lead to energy losses and impair the service life of the
appliance.
The automatic scaling indicator determines the time for the next descaling
cycle. Depending on the level of coffee consumption and water hardness, after
4 to 6 weeks the descaling symbol lights up during the brewing process,
prompting you to descale the appliance.
Setting the water hardness
Note: The setting for individual water hardness is not necessary as the appliance detects the limescale automatically.
Descaling – Anti-limescale program
To ensure an optimal descaling please let the device cool down to room
temperature before starting the descaling program. Descale your appliance
regularly using a high-quality and suitable commercial descaling agent. In
doing so, refer to the manufacturer’s information, especially with regard to
the subsequent mandatory cleaning step using clear water. Suitable descaling
agents contain inhibitors that protect appliances against damage to seals and
surfaces, do not cause any deposits and are also of neutral taste.
You must not use any agents for descaling that are unsuitable for the
respective appliance (such as pure vinegar or citric acid-based products). Our
warranty does not cover damage caused by using unsuitable descaling agents or
failure to comply with the descaling instructions. Please keep descal-ing
agents out of the reach of children and make sure that you do not inhale any
of the steam that is emitted during descaling.
- Insert the paper filter and place the jug in the machine. Larger limescale residues may accumulate in the paper filter, thus preventing the outlet valve from clogging.
- Add the quantity of descaling agent to the water tank as per the manufacturer™s instructions, and top up with tap water to the 10-cup mark (version with glass jug) or to the 8-cup mark (version with thermal jug).
- To start the descaling, press the symbol and hold it down for around 3 seconds. The word CALC appears on the display, the descaling programme is automatically started when you press the Start/Stop symbol. To ensure thorough cleaning, you must not interrupt the descaling programme. The word CALC and the descaling symbol are lit during the descaling process.
- Note that the descaling process takes longer than the normal brewing process and may last quite a while. Wait until the water has run completely through and the coffee machine switches off.
Important: Then to rinse, fill the tank to the 10-cup mark (version with glass jug) or to the 8-cup mark (version with thermal jug) with fresh tap water and allow this to run through the machine.
