Q. How do I earn HNT?
A.

When a device sends information over the network using your hotspot
By initiating Proof of Coverage (PoC) Challenges over the internet.
By participating in a PoC Challenge.
By acting as a Witness to a PoC Challenge between nearby hotspots.
By being a part of a Consensus Group.

Q. How much electricity does the Hotspot Miner consume?
A. The power consumption will only be approximately 0.12 kWh per day.

Q. Can I install my MerryIoT Miner outdoors?
A. We don’t recommend installing the Hotspot outdoors, however if required, ensure you purchase an additional outdoor enclosure to protect it from the elements.
Please note the operation and storage temperature requirements in the table below:

Q. What would be the ideal location to install the MerryIoT Miner in my house?
A. Place the Miner or it’s antenna near a window for best performance.
Q. Can I have multiple Miners in my house?
A. If Miners are too close to each other (within 300 meters or so) they will end up competing for Challenges and their overall participation in PoC would be impacted. The recommendation would be to have them separated at least a few houses or blocks apart to broaden the network coverage.
Q. How can I evaluate the miner’s ideal location to maximize HNT earnings?
A. Follow the steps outlined here.

Access the hotspotty and log in with a Discord account in the upper right corner
Go to Locations and add location
Enter your installation address or drop a pin on the map and declare the installation height, then save.
There will be a virtual hotspot point. Go to the “Reward scaling”, you will see the transmit scale simulation of this location.

Q. How do I set up my MerryIoT Miner?
A. Please see here for the onboarding instructions.
Q. Can I change my Hotspot Miner to another location after completing onboarding?
A. Yes, that’s possible for a charge of US$10.
Q. Can I transfer my MerryIot Miner to another user account if I’d like to quit mining?
A. Yes, you can transfer your MerryIoT Miner to another account for a Handling fee. You can find the details on Helium.
Q. How can I confirm whether the MerryIot Miner is working properly?
A. The MerryIoT miner is working properly if all LED statuses is solid green.
Q. Why does my MerryIoT Miner take so long to sync with the Helium Blockchain?
A. The Hotspot Miner needs time to sync with Helium Blockchain. It generally takes three to four days to sync up successfully.
Please ensure the Miner docker has the latest version installed. If not, upgrade the docker to the latest version.
Here are the upgrade steps.

Access the Hotspot Miner via its IP address using https.
For example https://192.168.88.107
Go to Miner Info, click on CHECK NEW VERSION, it will upgrade automatically.

Q. Why is my Hotspot Miner always in Relayed mode? What’s the impact or risk in Relayed mode?

A. It can adversely affect mining and earnings under the relayed mode, Helium recommends enabling
TCP port 44158 in both directions in your router. Check your Router’s manufacturing instructions on how to open port 44158.

For support and firmware updates, Helium will need ports 22 and 443 open Outbound.

Q. How do I change the Hotspot Miner’s Wi-Fi network to another Wi-Fi network?
A. Here are the steps for switching Miner’s Wi-Fi network to another Wi-Fi network.

Enable your smart device’s Bluetooth function
Hold the Hotspot Miner’s pair button for 5 seconds to activate Bluetooth
Go to Helium APP and click on Pair icon to update the Wi-Fi connection

Q. What is the purpose of the USB port on the MerryIoT Miner? Does it support a 3G/4G dongle?
A. The USB port is to enable the MerryIoT Miner’s firmware upgrade and debugging. It doesn’t support a 3G/4G dongle.
Q. Why there is a TransFlash (TF) card inserted into the MerryIoT Miner? What is the purpose of that?
A. There are two purposes of the TF card

To store the Miner’s Blockchain data
To regularly erase older Blockchain data and log files
