Congratulations! You will take pride in your new Portable Type- writer. In order to use your new typewriter effectively, read this instruction sheet carefully.

OVERVIEW

  1. How to insert paper: Place the paper against the paper table “A behind the cylinder. Rotate the cylinder. Hold the paper securely against the cylinder with the paper bail “B: Turning either of the cylinder knobs allows you to insert or remove the paper or adjust spacing vertically.
  2. Paper Release Lever: When using several sheets of paper and carbon, move the lever toward the rear. Align the paper edges. Return the lever to the forward position.
  3. Margin Stops, Left-Right: The margin stops will be used to set the left margin and the right margin on the paper. Depress the margin stop and slide it to the desired position for equal margins.
  4. Two-Color Ribbon and Stencil Control: Move the color change lever to the red mark for typing in red, to the black for typing in black and to the white mark for stencil cutting.
  5. Paper Support: The hide-away paper support holds the paper up and in full view at all times.
  6. Margin Release Key and Anti-Jam Key: Depressing the margin release key will allow you to type beyond the margin setting. It will also free-type bars that may lock at the printing point.
  7. Top Cover: To remove the top cover, lift both edges nearest to the cylinder,
  8. Carriage Release Lever: Move the carriage release lever forward to move the carriage freely to the left or right..
  9. Line Space Selector: Three line spacings are provided. To permit insertion of characters between lines, set the line space selector lever at the numeral “o.
  10. Back Space Key: Depressing this key will move the carriage backward one space.
  11. Shift Key and Shift Lock Key: Capital letters and upper-case characters may be typed when one of the shift keys is depressed. Depresśing the shift lock key permits continued typing of capital letters and upper case characters. The lock can be disengaged by touching either shift key.
  12. Space Bar: Gently touching the space bar provides fast word spacing.
  13. Card Hoder: By placing a pencil or ballpoint pen in the hole of the card holder and moving the carriage horizontaly or rotating the cylinder, horizontal or vertical lines can be drawn on the paper.
  14. Touch Selector: The touch key is freely adjusted by setting touch selector on the Lfor light touch or “H for heavy touch or any position between light and heavy.
  15. Line Space Lever: Moving the line space lever from left to right returns the carriage and advances the paper the next line spacing.
  16. Tabulator: If your portable is equipped with a tabulator you will find that the tabulator is pre-set to stop at every 10th space. Hold the TAB key down while the carriage moves to the next stop.

HOW TO CHANGE THE RIBBON

  1. Remove the top cover. Wind the used ribbon on one spool.
  2. Remove the ribbon from the ribbon carrier.
  3. Remove the spools and detach end the of the used ribbon from the empty spool.
  4. Place the new ribbon spool in position, keeping the black portion of the ritbon upward. Attach the end of the new ribbon to the empty spool and reposition the spool. Insert the ribbon in the ribbon carrier C
  5. Place the-sibbon in the ribbon guide forks “D near the left and right spools. Position the eyelet of the ribbon between the fork and the spool. Install the top cover.

AUTOMATIC REPEAT SPACER
If Vour machine is fitted with this facility merely depress the automatic key to give fast repeat spacing to any point on the writing line until released.
