Whitecroft lighting Mirage 3 – MRI Recessed Downlighter
INSTALLATION DETAILS
-
Open packing and locate the disposable gloves, this is to stop grease from skin contact getting onto the reflector surface. These must be worn throughout the installation.
-
Inspect the contents of the box for any damage in transit.
-
Prepare aperture using appropriate tool, circular fittings are based around standard size hole saws. See Dimensions on last page for cut sizes.
-
Ceiling thickness is show under Product and Driver Dimensions. See fig 1.
-
Check void dimensions. Ensure 100mm clearance from the down lighter is given in all directions to walls/insulation and MRI Link Connection box. See Fig.2. Insulation cannot directly cover the back of the downlighter.
-
Untighten the 3 cable glands fig.4 and remove the brass screw fig.5. Open the box to show the PCB. Cables from the external drive into the room should be routed through the IN gland and connected to the terminal block beneath. To connect to the next fitting, connect the cable to the terminal block through the OUT gland and to the IN gland on the next fitting.
-
Wire the products as shown below (typical room schematic). Note that the driver is installed outside the MRI room with a Filter bridging into the room (supplied by others) and then connecting to the MRI link connection boxes that loop in and loop out to the next fitting. A maximum number of fittings that can be run by the driver and maximum circuit length are listed below.
Maximum Number for fitting that can be run by driver:
-
M5D100W (100w Driver) – Can run Quantity 6 x 16.6W / Quantity 3 x 26.5W
-
M5D185W (185w Driver) – Can run Quantity 10 x 16.6W / Quantity 6 x 26.5W
-
M5D320W (320w Driver) – Can run Quantity 18 x 16.6W / Quantity 10 x 26.5W
-
1-10V analog drivers suitable for MRI applications to be ordered separately (Driver must be loaded with at least 3×26.5w or 4×16.6w for dimming to operate)
Recommended maximum circuit lengths:
-
30m using 100W driver with 1.5mm² cable
-
20m using 185W driver with 1.5mm² cable
-
12m using 320W driver with 1.5mm² cable
-
18m using 320W driver with 2.5mm² cable
Note: These figures are based on default voltage output from the driver. This can be increased on installation and can increase circuit length. Please contact Technical Support for more information.

Install the product in the ceiling by placing the MRI Link box in the ceiling first then installing the fitting. To install the fitting place the tops of the plastic wings it the cut aperture then push up until the product is fully secure. See fig.6.
-
To remove the fitting for maintenance, first, ensure clean gloves are used to protect the fitting from dirt and grease. Then place a flat-bladed screwdriver carefully behind the bezel and ceiling to open up a gap. Use fingers to grip the product and pull it down. You can also use your free hand to ease the spring through the aperture to stop damage to the ceiling.

GENERAL INFORMATION
- A qualified electrician, in accordance with IEE wiring regulations, should carry out the connection to mains wiring.
- Observe ESD precautions during installation.
- Ensure that the rated voltage and frequency requirements are compatible with the available mains supply.
- Cleaning of reflectors and lenses should be carried out using clean, soft, and lint-free cloths. The use of cleaning fluids can mark reflector surfaces.
- Do not carry out a high voltage insulation test, i.e. 500/1000v this may damage internal components.
- For secondary suspension points please refer to fig.7. The holes are designed to accommodate steel cable (supplied by others).
- Allow sufficient time for the product to cool before performing maintenance. The heatsink may be hot.
- The light source contained in this luminaire shall only be replaced by the manufacturer or a designated service agent or a suitably qualified person.
