IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be
followed, including the following:
READ AND SAVE ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS APPLIANCE.
WARNING – TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK OR INJURY:
- Do not leave appliance when plugged in. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before servicing.
- Connect to a properly grounded outlet only. See Grounding Instructions.
- Do not use outdoors or on wet surface.
- Do not allow to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children.
- Use only as described in this manual. Only use Manufacturer’s recommended attachments.
- Do not use with damaged cord or plug. If appliance is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors or dropped into water, contact Terra Universal Inc. for assistance.
- Do not: pull or carry by cord, use cord as a handle, close a door on cord or pull cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run appliance over cord. Keep cord away from heated surfaces.
- Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp the plug; not the cord.
- Do not handle plug or appliance with wet hands.
- Do not put any object into openings. Do not use with any opens blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair and anything that may reduce airflow.
- Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers and all parts of body away from openings and moving parts.
- Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches or hot ashes.
- Do not use without dust bag and/or filters in place.
- Turn off all controls before unplugging.
- Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.
- Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids such as gasoline or use in areas where they may be present.
- Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches, or hot ashes.
- Do not use your vacuum as a sprayer of flammable liquids such as oil base paints, lacquers, household cleaners, etc.
- Do not vacuum toxic, carcinogenic, combustible or other hazardous materials such as asbestos, arsenic, barium, beryllium, lead, pesticides or other health endangering materials. Specifically designed units are available for those purposes.
- Do not pick up soot, cement, plaster or drywall dust without cartridge filter and collection filter bag in place. These very fine particles may affect the performance of the motor or be exhausted back into the air.
- Do not leave the cord lying on the floor once you have finished the cleaning job. It can become a tripping hazard.
- Do not place heavy objects on vacuum.
- STAY ALERT. Watch what you are doing and use common sense. Do not use vacuum cleaner when you are tired, distracted or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication causing diminished control.
- WARNING Do NOT use this vacuum cleaner to vacuum lead paint debris because this may disperse fine lead particles into the air. This vacuum cleaner is not intended for use under EPA Regulation 40 CFR Part 745 for lead paint material clean up.
- An extension cord must have adequate wire size (AWG or American Wire Gauge) for safety. The smaller the gauge number of the wire, the greater the capacity of the cable – that is 16 gauge has more capacity than 18 gauge. An undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating. When using more than one extension to make up the total length, be sure each individual extension contains at least the minimum wire size. The following table in section 3 shows the correct size to use. If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge. The smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord.

Introduction
This manual provides information on installing and operating your Terra
Universal MicroVac™ Portable Cleanroom Vacuum Cleaner.
By studying this document carefully, you can be assured of a long, efficient
service life from the unit.
Description
The MicroVac™ Cleanroom Vacuum Cleaner/Blower performs two important cleanroom
functions: it provides powerful suction to act as a cleanroom vacuum cleaner;
and its ULPA-filtered exhaust provides a portable, localized source of clean
air for blowing away particles, drying small parts, and other operations.
The MicroVac™ incorporates a four-stage filtering systems to remove particles
and dust from the air stream (see the illustration below). During the first
and second filtering stages, large particles are trapped in a disposable paper
bag and inside a permanent cloth bag. In stage three, air passes through a
permanent fine-mesh stainless steel screen. In stage four, pre-filtered air is
drawn through an ULPA Exhaust Filter rated 99.999% efficient with particles
0.12 microns in diameter.
The MicroVac™ comes complete with a vacuum hose, a set of vacuum hose
attachments, and a set of vacuum mini-tools and a mini-tool adapter (see
listing below).

This appliance is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and grounding plug. The plug must be inserted into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
WARNING – IMPROPER CONNECTION OF THE EQUIPMENT GROUNDING CONDUCTOR CAN RESULT IN A RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK. CHECK WITH A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN OR SERVICE PERSON IF YOU ARE IN DOUBT AS TO WHETHER THE OUTLET IS PROPERLY GROUNDED. DO NOT MODIFY THE PLUG PROVIDED WITH THE APPLIANCE – IF IT WILL NOT FIT THE OUTLET, HAVE A PROPER OUTLET INSTALLED BY A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN.
For 120V: This appliance is for use on a nominal 120-V circuit and has a grounding attachment plug that looks like the plug that is illustrated in sketch A in figure 20. Make sure that the appliance is connected to an outlet having the same configuration as the plug. No adaptor should be used with this appliance.
For 220V: This appliance is for use on a circuit having a nominal rating more than 120 V (or this appliance is rated more than 15A and is used on a circuit having a nominal rating of 120V) and is factory-equipped with specific electric cord and plug to permit connection to a proper electric circuit. Make sure that the appliance is connected to an outlet having the same configuration as the plug. No adaptor should be used with this appliance. If the appliance must be reconnected for use on a different type of electric circuit, the reconnection should be made by qualified service personnel.

Installation
Before operation, carefully unpack the MicroVac™ and verify that all system components have been included: MicroVac™ System Components:
- MicroVac™ Stainless Steel Housing, including blower and filters (unclip the intake side of the MicroVac™ for access to the three pre-filters; for access to the ULPA final filter, remove the two screws from the exhaust end of the MicroVac™)
- 3-foot flexible vacuum hose
- Two 20-inch extension wands
- “Pick-all” nozzle
- Air maximizer nozzle
- Crevice tool
- Soft bristle dusting brush
- Air pin-pointer
- Mini-vacuum attachment kit, including adapter, straight and curved extensions, oval and round brushes, and a crevice tool
- Five disposable paper bag filters (Cat. No. 5100-01)
- One ULPA Exhaust Filter (Cat. No. 5100-04)
Maintenance
Make sure that the filters are properly installed, as indicated in the
illustration. The disposable bag filter fits inside the larger cloth bag
filter directly inside the intake side of the MicroVac™, and the fine-mesh
screen should lie flush against the fixed stainless steel diffuser panel. The
wide hole of the ULPA filter slides over the blower assembly on the exhaust
side of the MicroVac™.
To operate, first position the vacuum hose and any desired attachment (or the
mini-vacuum adapter, if you are using one of the mini-tools) on the intake
side of the MicroVac™ (the side that features the two clips). Plug the
MicroVac™ into a grounded outlet and turn the power switch on.
Note: The vacuum attachments and mini-tools can also be connected to the outlet side of the MicroVac™ to direct and focus the stream of ULPA-filtered air.
ATTENTION: To ensure a long service life, avoid extended use in hot or very dusty environments, and periodically inspect and replace the filters, as needed. The permanent cloth filter bag should be periodically shaken clean of all accumulated dust.
