Product Usage Instructions

Pre-Installation:

1. Close the garage door.
2. Disconnect power from the outlet.
3. Remove the lower and upper front covers.
4. Disconnect and remove the batteries.
5. Label and disconnect wires from the unit.
6. Loosen the shaft collar using appropriate tools.
7. Remove mounting bracket screws.
8. Remove the motor unit from the wall.
9. Discard the old shaft collar.

Installation

• Attach the Collar to the Garage Door Opener:

1. Loosen set screws on the collar and ensure lock nuts are fully loosened.
2. Attach the collar to the garage door opener output shaft, ensuring it is seated properly.
3. Position the collar so screws align with two holes in the output shaft.
4. Tighten two square head set screws closest to the operator, aligning tips with holes but not overtightening.

• Attach Mounting Bracket to Garage Door Opener:
  Loosely attach the slotted side of the mounting bracket to the garage door opener using provided screws.

APPLICATION

This replacement kit is only intended for the heavy duty style Residential Jackshaft Operator with 4 holes on each end of the output shaft.
NOTE: The following images are for reference only. Your unit and shaft collar may look different.

YOU MAY NEED:

• 3/8″ 8-point socket or 3/8″ Open End Wrench
• 9/16″ socket or 9/16″ Open End Wrench
• 6″ Extender

PRE-INSTALLATION

1. Close the garage door.
2. Disconnect power from the outlet.
3. Remove the lower and upper front covers (A).
4. Disconnect and remove the batteries and set aside. (B).
5. Remove wires from the unit and label them for reinstallation. Disconnect wires from the quick connect terminals (C).
6. Loosen the shaft collar. First, use a 9/16 socket or open end wrench to loosen the 4 lock nuts completely off the lock washers. Then use a 3/8″
7. point socket or open end wrench to loosen the 4 set screws on the collar (D).
8. Remove the two 14-10 x 2″ screws holding the mounting bracket to the wall (E).
9. Remove the motor unit from wall.
10. Discard the old shaft collar.

WARNING

• To prevent possible SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:
• Disconnect ALL electric and battery power BEFORE performing ANY service or maintenance

CAUTION

• To prevent damage to the receiver logic board, DO NOT touch printed circuit board of replacement receiver logic board during installation.
• ALWAYS wear protective gloves and eye protection when changing the battery or working around the battery compartment.

INSTALLATION

ATTACH THE COLLAR TO THE GARAGE DOOR OPENER
NOTE: To avoid installation difficulties, do not run the garage door garage door opener until instructed to do so.
The garage door opener can be installed on either side of the door. The illustrations shown are for installation on the left side of the door.

1. Loosen the set screws on the collar. Ensure that the lock nuts are fully loosened.
2. Attach the collar to the garage door opener output shaft. Ensure the collar is seated all the way on the operator shaft until it reaches the stop.
3. Position the collar so the screws align with two of the holes in the output shaft. These screws should be easily accessible when the operator is attached to the torsion bar.
4. Begin to tighten the two square head set screws closest to the operator. Ensure that the tips of the set screws are aligned with the holes in the shaft, and tighten until fully engaged with the holes. It may be necessary to use a tool, but DO NOT overtighten at this time.
   NOTE: Make sure to feel with a finger that the set screw tips are just starting to protrude through the holes of the tube, then stop tightening for now. You will not fully tighten the set screws until a later step.
   WARNING
   To prevent possible SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH, the collar MUST be properly tightened. The door may NOT reverse correctly or limits may be lost due to collar slip.

ATTACH MOUNTING BRACKET TO GARAGE DOOR OPENER
Loosely attach slotted side of mounting bracket to the same side of the garage door opener as the collar, using two #10-32 screws provided.
NOTE: Do not tighten screws until instructed.

POSITION AND MOUNT THE GARAGE DOOR OPENER
NOTE: For additional mounting options refer to the accessories page of the owner’s manual.

1. Close the garage door completely.

2. Slide the garage door opener onto the end of the torsion bar. If the torsion bar is too long or damaged, you may need to cut the torsion bar. Ensure the collar does NOT touch the bearing.
   If the replacement shaft collar matches the previous shaft collar, align the garage door opener mounting bracket to the existing holes. Use a level to position and vertically align the garage door opener. Skip to Step 6.
   If the replacement shaft collar does NOT match the previous shaft collar, start at Step 3.

3. Use a level to position and vertically align the garage door opener. Verify the mounting bracket is located on a solid surface such as wood, concrete or door/flag bracket. If installing on drywall, the mounting bracket MUST be attached to a stud.

4. When the garage door opener is properly aligned, mark the mounting bracket holes. If necessary, lightly tighten collar screws on the torsion bar to hold garage door opener in place while marking holes.
   NOTE: The garage door opener does not have to be flush to wall.

5. Remove the garage door opener from torsion bar. Drill 3/16 inch pilot holes at the marked locations. Drill through metal door rail plates if necessary.
   NOTE: See Door Shaft Style images to identify your setup.

   • OPTION A: Solid Shaft with Keyway Installations
   1. For doors with solid shafts with a keyway, slide the operator back onto the torsion bar, ensuring that the provided 1″ key is in place and aligned with the keyway on the collar. Then, slide the garage door opener back onto the torsion bar until the pilot holes align with the mounting bracket.
   2. To secure the torsion bar, tighten the two square head set screws furthest from the operator. Begin by hand-tightening both screws until they make contact with the shaft or the key. Then, tighten the screws 1/4 to 1/2 turn.
   • OPTION B: Hollow Shaft without Keyway Installations
   1. For doors with hollow shafts or without a keyway, slide the garage door opener back onto the torsion bar until the pilot holes align with the mounting bracket.
   2. To secure the torsion bar, tighten the two square head set screws furtherst from the operator. Begin by hand-tightening both screws until they touch the shaft. Then, turn the screws 3/4 to 1 full turn.

6. Operator Set Screws: Fully tighten the two set screws closest to the operator with an additional 1/4 to 1/2 turn.

7. Secure the mounting bracket to both the wall and the garage door opener. Use the provided 14-10 x 2″ screws to firmly fasten the mounting bracket to the wall.
   To prevent the screws from coming loose, lock the screws in place by tightening all 4 lock nuts until the lock washer is fully flattened against the collar.

WARNING
To prevent possible SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:

• Concrete anchors MUST be used if mounting bracket into masonry.
• NEVER try to loosen, move or adjust garage door, springs, cables, pulleys, brackets or their hardware, ALL of which are under EXTREME tension.
• ALWAYS call a trained door systems technician if garage door binds, sticks or is out of balance. An unbalanced garage door might NOT reverse when required.
• Garage door opener MUST be mounted at a right angle to the torsion bar to avoid premature wear on the collar.
