EARGO 5 Welcome Future Hearing Wellness
Welcome To The Future Of Hearing Wellness!
Whether you’re new to Eargo 5,6 or 7 or have been wearing your Devices for a while, we are glad you’ve found this Additional Info guide.
This guide contains additional, supplemental information and tips for Eargo products that we think you’ll find helpful. Throughout the guide, the text in orange will navigate you to further information you may need. Tap the orange text if you are on your mobile phone, or click it if you are on your computer.
Important: Don’t forget to check out the User Guides found in your Eargo box, too.
How To Tell Eargo 5, 6 & 7 Hearing Devices Apart
What Charger Do I Have?
The portable Chargers for Eargo 5, 6 & 7 look identical. Each type of Charger
is capable of charging all three types of Eargo Hearing Device products. If
you don’t use the Eargo app, it doesn’t matter which Charger you use for
storing and charging your Eargo Hearing Devices.
Using the Eargo app?
Eargo 5, 6 and 7 Chargers each have different software inside them. If you
intend to use the Eargo mobile app to self-fit and personalize your Eargo
Devices, the Hearing Device type and Charger must match up – for example Eargo
7 Hearing Devices inside an Eargo 7 Charger. If you own more than one Eargo
product and think you’ve mixed them up, don’t worry! You can use the Eargo
mobile app to identify which Device belongs to which Charger using the Get
Info tool in the Devices menu. Launch the app, then select Menu/Devices/Get
Info to get started.
Charger Info
Eargo 5,6 & 7 Chargers are used to store, inductively charge and detect your Eargo Hearing Devices. When paired and connected to the Eargo app your Charger can be used to personalize them for your listening preferences. Get to know about your Charger and what its LED indicator lights mean when the Eargo Devices are charging: Visit pages 4-11 of your Use and Care Guide.
Charger Charging Facts
- Your fully charged Charger lasts about 2 days unplugged.
- When plugged in and charging, Eargo Devices inside will also charge.
- Depleted Charger or Eargo Devices fully charge in about 4 hours.
- Depleted Charger and Eargo Devices fully charge in about 6 hours.
- Overnight is the perfect time to charge.
- Maximize battery life: charge your Eargos once per day. Keep the lid on the Charger when it’s unplugged.
- Eargo Devices automatically turn off when inside the Charger.
- It is safe to leave your Charger plugged in indefinitely.
Pairing & Registering Your Eargo System
Eargo 5,6 & 7 systems can be paired to the Eargo app. The Eargo app is used to self-fit Eargo Devices to your hearing and listening preferences and has controls that allow you to make temporary or lasting adjustments to sound quality.
- Download the Eargo app from Apple App or Google Play store and open the app.
- The first time you launch the app you’ll be asked to log in or to create an Eargo account.
- If you’ve already created an account on eargo.com you’ll use that same email address and password to log into the mobile app. You may have created an account if you already scanned the QR code that comes in the Eargo system box (on the front of the Use & Care guide, or on the Charger’s protective belt).
- If you haven’t created an Eargo account yet, please create one. Just download the app from your app store and follow the in-app instructions to connect, self-fit and personalize your devices to your hearing preferences.
Pairing, Program & Software Updates
Eargo 5,6 & 7 systems can be paired and connected to the Eargo app. The Eargo app is used to self-fit Eargo Devices to your hearing and listening preferences and has controls that allow you to make temporary or lasting adjustments to sound quality.
Pairing & Connection To Eargo App.
During Bluetooth pairing to the mobile app on your compatible smartphone, the
Charger Indicator Light will illuminate solid blue.
Program Updates to Eargo Devices.

Sound Match™ self-fitting, reverting Devices to Factory Presets, syncing
Devices and adding a replacement Device.
Software Updates to Charger and/or Hearing Devices
Eargo 5,6 & 7 are field-updatable. This means from time-to-time updates can be
applied to the Hearing Devices and Charger to improve performance.
- Ensure Adequate Charge State! The Charger and Eargo devices need to be at least 25% full when receiving an update.
- These update processes use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Keep the Eargo app open and your Charger close by.
During Hearing Device Program Updates
- Hearing Device and Cradle Indicators will periodically pulse blue.
During Software Updates
- The Charger Indicator, Hearing Device, and Cradle Indicator Lights will pulse blue.
Update Successful
- The app will show the update was successful, then white lights will show the current charge state of the system.
Update Unsuccessful:
- Flashing red lights will appear for 1 minute or until Eargo devices are removed/replaced into the cradle to retry the update.
Troubleshooting Tips & Deep Cleaning
From time to time, troubleshooting may be necessary to resolve the following issues:
- No sound, low sound, weak or diminished sound quality in Eargo Device
- First, verify the Hearing Device has adequate charge. Next, refer to pages 22-31 of your Use and Care Guide.
Eargo hearing devices are not charging reliably.
- Charging reliability can be affected by visible or non-visible debris on the Eargo Device.
- First, verify that the Charger has adequate charge or is plugged into power. To learn about the Charger’s Hearing Device and Charger LED indicators, visit pages 6-9 of your Use and Care Guide.
- Eargo hearing devices feel warmer than usual.
- Eargo 5,6 & 7 use inductive charging. Some heat transfer is expected. If your Devices feel warmer than usual, then it’s time to clean the Petals and Mic Caps. Visible or non-visible residue and debris can block the Sound Outlet and affect charging reliability. You can learn how to change Petals and Mic Caps by referring to pages 4-11 of your Use and Care Guide.
Follow These Deep Cleaning Steps Next
Use the Eargo Deep Cleaning Kit containing putty and wipes.
- Eargo Deep Cleaning Kit is available at eargo.com in the Accessories store.
- First, remove the Petal and Mic Cap, and set them aside.
- Next, use the cleaning brush to remove visible earwax and debris.
- Use a 70% alcohol wipe over the entire device.
- Now, take a small piece of putty. Pre-form the putty into a small roll. Apply the putty to the Sound Outlet and gently stick and peel to remove it, up to 10 times.
- Then, gently stick/remove the Sound Inlet onto the putty, up to 10 times.
- Ensure that you do not exert undue pressure on the Removal Thread.
- The Sound Outlet and Inlet each feature a special mesh—gentle sticking and peeling is advised. Never use anything to poke at these areas as this could damage your device.
- Finally use the 70% alcohol wipe over the entire hearing aid again. This removes skin oils due to handling, as well as removing any residue from the cleaning putty.
- If the Petal and/or Mic Cap appear intact, you can wash them with dish soap like Dawn and warm water. Make sure to rinse and dry thoroughly—we suggest drying them overnight.
- After Deep Cleaning, Charge the Eargo devices.
- Place bare Eargo Device (no Mic Cap, no Petal) into Charger.
- Verify correct placement of Devices inside Charger.
- Charge with the Charger plugged in and the lid off for at least 4 hours.
- Finally, place your fresh Petal and Mic Cap on the device, and don’t forget to check for secure placement.
- As a reminder, change Mic Caps and Petals about every month, or when sound quality is decreased. Inspect them both regularly, and replace them if any wear and tear is visible.
Insertion Techniques
-
Hold with the L or R facing you. Grasp the Device Removal Thread between your index finger and thumb.
-
For most ears, the Removal Thread Grip rests here (see above). If the Removal Thread Grip rests more deeply in your ear, grasp it and pull the Device out a bit.
-
Gently press into place. The black Mic Cap should rest at your ear canal opening. If the Device rests deeper into your ear canal, grasp the Removal Thread Grip and pull it out a bit. If the Device feels loose in your ear, try a Large Petal. Refer to your Use and Care Guide, pages 26-29 to learn how to change the Petal. The first place to learn about inserting your Eargo Devices is pages 6-9 of the Use and Care Guide. Feeling a tickle? The ear canal can take a little time to get used to Eargo, and the feeling usually goes away in a few days. Everyone’s ears are sized, shaped
, and curved differently, so your Eargo insertion technique may vary – even from left to right ear. You can gently explore and refine the fit of your Eargo devices. Here are some tips that may help with insertion:- Lift the ear: pull the top of your ear upwards while inserting, it to create space for the device.
- Angle the device: aim towards your nose while inserting it, to follow the pathway of your ear canal. 10
-
Open your mouth: lowering your jaw while inserting can also create space in the ear canal.
-
Grasp the Removal Thread Grip and pull the device out a little bit.
-
Inserting the Devices with the Removal Threads pointing up instead of down may make it easier to find in your ear.
To ensure the Device Removal Thread is accessible, rest it against the pad of your finger when inserting. This way it can’t tuck under. To see a video on insertion, go to eargo.com/showme or go to the Eargo app and view the Insert & Remove Devices clip.
Beautifully Designed To Never Be Seen
Eargo Devices are designed to be virtually invisible. Ear canals absorb the light and appear dark to the onlooker, which is precisely why we made Eargo black. It blends in with the natural shadow of your ear canal opening, rendering it virtually invisible to the naked eye. And the fully clothed eye. Honestly, it doesn’t matter what your eye is wearing!
Change The Program
Brand new Eargo Devices come out of the box with four Preset Programs inside them. Amplification, especially for speech, increases as you go from Preset Program 1 to Preset Program 4. If you use the Eargo app, you can customize these Preset Programs, select to add different programs (e.g. Restaurant, Phone), and self-fit your Devices using Sound Match. No matter what you choose for your Eargo Devices, they can hold up to four different Programs.
- To move from one program to the next, use your finger to rapidly double tap where indicated.
- The feature is driven by an accelerometer. Depending on the placement in your ear, and your unique anatomy, where you tap might need to be adjusted.
Additional Double Tap Methods To Try:
- Double tap with one finger at the “helix”, the area where the top of the ear joins the cheek.
- Double tap with two fingers together, as pictured.
- Double tap the area just in front of the ear lobe.
- Gently double tap over the opening of the ear with an open palm. In this picture, the Eargo device is inserted with the Removal Thread pointing upwards. Some people find this insertion makes it easier to find and remove the device.
- Some people gently flick the Removal Thread twice.
Self-Fit Your Eargos With The Eargo App
Pairing your Eargo system with the Eargo app allows you to self-fit Eargo Devices to your hearing and listening preferences. So, whether you’re dining, in a meeting, or watching TV you can be sure you get the best experience.
Complete Sound Match
- Complete Eargo Sound Match from the comfort of your home, office or anywhere quiet. With Sound Match, you can personalize your device to your individual listening preferences for each ear. It takes about 5-10 minutes. Sound Match appears automatically during first-time app use, and can be accessed anytime from the app Menu.
Tailor Eargo Programs For Your Lifestyle
- Which listening environments are most important to you? Choose up to 3 and personalize your Devices with a program for each of them (e.g. Restaurant or Phone program). Sound Match ensures your listening experience is optimized and personalized for each ear, no matter which programs you choose to use.
Good To Know
For best results, hold the phone as pictured when completing Sound Match, so
that the signals are received reliably.

High Tech Made Easy
Your Eargo Devices arrive with four Preset Programs if personalizing them via the Eargo app isn’t part of your plan.
- Automatic: Eargo 6’s Sound Adjust and Eargo 7’s Sound Adjust+ features identify the soundscape you are in and automatically modify the Device settings to provide optimal benefit. No need to pull out your app or tap your ear to make a manual change – Eargo 6 & Eargo 7 adjust automatically.
- Manual: To move from one Preset Program to the next, use your finger to rapidly double-tap (see Change The Program on page 11 ). Amplification, especially for speech, increases as you go from Preset Program 1 to Preset Program 4.11
- As you move from one Preset Program to the next, the internal voice indicator in each Device will announce which program you are in.
- Not sure which Preset Program to use?
- If you’re new to hearing devices, try Preset Program 2.
- If you’re an experienced user, give Preset Program 3 a whirl.
Each Preset provides different settings that cover a range of hearing. Spend some time listening in different conditions. You might find you prefer different programs in each ear, or in quiet versus noise. Preset Program 1 is recommended for use with the phone.
Getting Used To Eargo
Congratulations! You’ve taken the first step towards hearing life to the fullest again. Like most life changing milestones, it may take a bit of time getting comfortable with all the changes your Eargos will bring. Knowing what changes to expect and getting familiar with them will ensure a happy and successful hearing journey. As always, we’re here to help and support you in your new life of sound. The next few pages address some common experiences you may have as you begin wearing your Eargo Devices.
Hearing Your Own Voice Differently
“Autophony” is the term used to describe the sensation of hearing your own voice. This is one of the most common things people notice when they begin wearing an in-ear hearing device. Remarkably, it goes away within a week or two when your brain gets adjusted to it and eventually ignores it. If it persists, we recommend trying the Open Petal style with your Eargo devices.
Hearing “Too Much”
Hearing too much is a very common sensation indeed. Rest assured that it is a very normal part of getting used to hearing devices. When you first start using Eargo, the range of hearing you have access to changes for the better! Your brain is working with sounds you may not have heard for some time. Little noises—water running, and paper crumpling—may suddenly seem quite loud. You’ll need to spend some time getting to know these soft, high-pitched parts of the spectrum again. They’re the same types of sounds that make speech seem crisper.
Using The Phone
Sometimes people experience feedback, like whistling or buzzing, when talking
on the phone and wearing a hearing device. This can happen when the phone is
too close to the ear. The proximity can create a feedback loop between the
phone’s speaker and the device’s microphone. If this happens, move the phone
back from your ear an inch or two, and try holding it at an angle. Program 1
or the Eargo app-selectable Phone program are both designed for telephone
use.
Speech Discrimination
With consistent daily wear of your Eargo devices, your brain will start to hone in on speech and filter out those extraneous sounds like paper rustling. This usually happens during the first month of use. Be patient during this time, and try out the different listening programs. After several weeks, many people find that it’s easier to hold a conversation, and hear better in noisy environments- their listening effort is substantially decreased. Your speech discrimination will likely continue to improve over time, possibly for several months. But remember, the key to anything is practice, so start conversing!
Watching TV
Many people report that their TV is at a much lower volume after they start
wearing Eargo devices at the same volume that’s comfortable for other people.
This is just one of the many ways in which Eargo can benefit the people who
don’t need them. If you’re watching with someone who has normal hearing ears,
let them set the volume. If you find you still want it louder, tap through the
different Preset programs, or use the Eargo app to select our TV program. You
can also increase the volume within selected programs from the Eargo app. A
couple of tips: hearing devices work best when the sound source is less than
10 feet away; different channels and streaming providers often vary in
loudness. Adjust Eargo accordingly. Happy watching. And listening.
Make Conversations Easier
Get the very best out of your Eargo experience by being an active listener. Here are some useful strategies for you and your conversation partners that will help you hear life to the fullest. And remember, you took a big step forward by addressing your hearing needs; your friends and loved ones can take some little steps, too:
- Face-to-face communication always works best.
- Good lighting and minimal distractions make listening easier.
- Your conversation partner should get your attention before speaking. A simple heads-up really helps!
- Speaking clearly and slowly works better than shouting.
- If it’s noisy, position yourself so the main source of noise is behind you.
- Sit close by to the sound source at meetings, lectures and places of worship.
