INTRODUCTION

WHAT IS THE OUTPUT BUS?

The OUTPUT BUS is a module that aims to provide solutions to mix and output issues along with quality-of-life patching for your Eurorack system. Many of us have ran out of mixer channels before, need to bring in that extra stereo FX returns, blend in some line level gear, or simple output appropriate signals on the right cable types to work with other gear whether at home, on stage or in a studio. The OUTPUT BUS is many things in a simple to use 8HP package. It’s a summing mixer, LED meter, soft clip limiter, stereo line level integrator, pro audio balanced line level output stage, and headphone monitor section. Ideas for the OUTPUT BUS go right back to the design stage of the STEREO STRIP module, where we had wild dreams of making our own modular mixer to bring lots of channel strips together for a comprehensive modular mixer set-up. We quickly realised that the power

CONTROLS

  1. INPUTS
Here we have 6 stereo or mono (patch into left only for mono) inputs that will sum together to create our mix. Perfect for adding extra channels to your existing mixer, or using various modules to build your own dream mixer.

  2. INE SWITCH
For the bottom input, you can select line level or modular synth level. The line level switch boosts the level of external gear to integrate into
your modular mix. This is great for returning pedal or desktop FX units or mixing in external instruments.

  3. LEVEL KNOB
Use the big red level knob to control your output volume. The inputs are summed and the level is controlled by this level control. Note this doesn’t have to be up full, use your ears and the LED meter to adjust your levels accordingly. The main output also features a soft clip limiter, this provides protection for your output and other gear, through a subtle character with added weight through to more obvious saturation. Adjust the level knob to go from clean mixes to limited more characterful sound.

  4. LED METER
The LED meters will dance around with your mix. While this is nice eye candy, it’s also good to visualise your levels quickly with the 0 marking giving an indication of good levels.

  5. MODULAR OUTS
These outputs are your left and right stereo audio from the summed mix of the inputs. These are at the modular level, allowing you to stick within a modular system rather than outputting to other gear.

  6. LINE OUTS
These are pro-audio-balanced line-level outputs on TRS 1/4” sockets. Use these to output your modular system.

  7. HEADPHONE OUTPUTS
Here you’ll fi ne two headphone outputs. Both a 3.5mm stereo connector and a 1/4” connector. Perfect for when you (inevitably) loose your headphone adapter, or use both if two people need to monitor the mix in headphones.

  8. HEADPHONE LEVEL
This is the headphone volume control. There are lots of levels to drive various headphones and it’s controlled entirely independently of the main output. Allowing you to monitor your system regardless of the main modular and line outs, which can be turned off on the big red level knob they become attenuators of the incoming voltage.

Ben (DivKid) would like to thank Befaco for all their hard work, love and care that it takes to bring an idea to life. They continue to be a fantastic team to work with and continue to provide inspiration for sound manipulation and music making with their own designs too. While we don’t know what it is yet, I’m sure we’ll see further collaborations in the future too Designed with care and love by the Befaco Team in Barcelona 2023.
