Using the Device
Charging the Device
When you receive the Orbit Magna 3, it may be already charged; however, we
recommend that it be fully charged before first use.
To charge the device, use the supplied Standard-A to Mini-B USB cable provided
with the unit. Insert the small end of the cable into the Orbit Magna 3’s USB
port.
It should slide in without resistance; do not force it. Now insert the large
end of the cable into a standard AC adapter with a USB-A port. Plug the
adapter into an AC wall connector.
The LED light will turn red during charging and will turn off when the device
is fully charged. Please charge the battery fully before first use. If the low
battery warning is displayed, charge the device immediately.
Note : Charge the battery with the device turned off to prolong its
service life. Avoid charging while the device is in use.
Power On and Off
Press and hold the Power button for a few seconds to turn the device on or
off. If no buttons are pressed for 3 minutes, the Magna 3 will automatically
turn off to conserve power.
Operating the device
- When you turn the device on for the first time, it will be set to magnification level 2. This is displayed as 2x on the screen. The contrast mode will be set to normal, i.e., there is no contrast enhancement. When you change any of the se settings, the settings will be automatically memorized, and the unit will apply these settings when it is used next.
- To use the device to read text printed on a flat surface such as a magazine or newspaper, place the device on the text. Slide the magnifier to the right to continue reading the line until you reach the end of the line. Then move it to the left and downwards to the start of the next line and continue reading.
Zoom
Use the Magnification button to adjust the magnification. Each press of the
button increases the magnification through the following levels: 2x, 3x, 4x,
6x, 8x, 12x, 16x, 20x, 24x and 32x. Pressing the Magnification button again
after 32x sets the magnification back to 2x.
A long press (1.5 seconds or longer) on the Magnification button decreases the
magnification by one level. This allows you to rapidly increase and decrease
magnification.
A long press (1.5 seconds or longer) of the Pause/Play button will return the
magnification and contrast settings to the defaults of 2x and Normal Picture
(no contrast enhancement), respectively.
Contrast Enhancement
The Orbit Magna 3 offers 16 Contrast Enhancement modes. Press the Color mode
button ⬕ to cycle through the modes and choose the one that provides the best
results. A long press (1.5 seconds or longer) on the Color mode button ⬕ goes
back to the previous contrast setting. The following is a list of the Contrast
Enhancement modes:
- Black on White
- White on Black
- Green on Black
- Black on Green
- Red on White
- White on Red
- Yellow on Black
- Black on Yellow
- Blue on Yellow
- Yellow on Blue
- Blue on White
- White on Blue
- Red on Green
- Green on Red
- Black on Blue
- Blue on Black
A long press (1.5 seconds or longer) of the Pause/Play button will return the magnification and contrast settings to the defaults of 2x and Normal Picture (no contrast enhancement), respectively.
Freezing the Picture
You may find it useful to freeze a picture so that you can examine it more
closely without having to keep the magnifier completely still. Press the
Pause/Play button to freeze the picture you see. Press the button again to
unfreeze and return to normal viewing.
Adjusting Brightness
Press the Playback button and the Magnification button simultaneously to
increase brightness. Press the Playback button and the Pause/Play button
simultaneously to decrease brightness. The brightness can be adjusted to five
levels.
Taking Photographs
Insert a Micro-SD card and press the Photograph button to take photographs.
The pictures will automatically be stored on the Micro-SD card.
Viewing Photographs
Press the Playback button to view all the photographs. Press the Color mode
button ⬕ to view the previous photograph and press the Pause/Play button to
view the next photograph. Use the Magnification button to zoom in on
photographs. Press the Playback button again to enter normal reading mode.
If no picture is displayed on the screen when you press the Playback button
this indicates that either there is no memory card inserted or the card does
not contain any photographs.
Connecting to a Computer
Connect the device to a computer via the supplied USB Mini-B cable to download
pictures from the Orbit Magna 3. The computer will detect the Magna 3 as a
Mass Storage device and you can use the computer’s file management features to
copy the pictures.
Connecting to a TV
Plug the yellow jack of the supplied cable into the yellow Video-in socket on
your TV. Note that this is an analog video input on the TV. Plug the other end
of the cable into the TV Out port of the Magna 3. Turn on the Magna 3 and you
will be able to view the picture on the TV.
Troubleshooting
- If the screen is blank, first ensure that the power is turned on and that the battery has enough charge.
- If the unit does not turn on, the battery may be dead and will need to be charged.
- If the image on the screen is dark or distorted, make sure the unit is positioned flat on the page and that the foot of the magnifier is fully extended.
- If there are smudges or blemishes on the screen, clean both the screen and the lens located between the LED lights on the underside of the unit.
- If the text is too small to read, press the magnify button
Hardware Limited Warranty
Warranty obligations for the Orbit Magna 3 are limited to the terms set forth below:
- Orbit Research warrants this hardware product against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the purchase by the original purchaser (“Warranty Period”). If a hardware defect arises and a valid claim is received by the Orbit Research LLC within the Warranty Period, at its option and to the extent permitted by law, Orbit Research will either:
- Repair the product free of charge (or) replace it with a product that is manufactured from new or serviceable used parts and is at least functionally equivalent to the original product.
- A replacement product or part assumes the remaining warranty of the original product or thirty (30) days from the date of replacement or repair, whichever provides longer coverage. Parts provided in fulfillment of its warranty obligation must be used in products for which warranty service is claimed.
EXCLUSIONS AND LIMITATIONS
This Limited Warranty applies only to the hardware product manufactured by Orbit Research LLC that can be identified by the “Orbit Research” trademark, trade name, or logo affixed to it. Orbit Research is not responsible for damage arising from failure to follow instructions relating to the product’s use.
This warranty does not apply in the following cases:
- Damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, flood, fire, earthquake, or other external causes.
- Damage caused by operating the product outside the permitted or intended uses described by Orbit Research LLC
- Damage caused by service (including upgrades and expansions) performed by anyone who is not a representative of Orbit Research
- A product or part that has been modified to alter functionality or capability without the written permission of Orbit Research
- The serial number has been removed or defaced.
TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THIS WARRANTY AND THE REMEDIES SET FORTH ABOVE
ARE EXCLUSIVE AND IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, REMEDIES AND CONDITIONS,

CONFIDENTIALITY OF DATA STORED ON THE PRODUCT. THE FOREGOING LIMITATION SHALL

- If your product is capable of storing software programs, data, and other information, you should make periodic backup copies of the information contained on the product’s hard drive or other storage media to protect the contents and as a precaution against possible operational failures. Before you deliver your product for warranty service, it is your responsibility to keep a separate backup copy of the contents and disable any security passwords.
