977-000 Throttle Position Sensor
In order to install your new Dorman Products 977-000 Throttle Position Sensor
(TPS) you will need to first remove the old failed TPS sensor. First, gain
access to the TPS sensor and unplug all electrical connections. Next, you will
notice that the original TPS sensor is secured to the throttle body with
rivets.
These rivets will need to be removed in order for the failed TPS sensor to be
replaced. (See Fig1)
First, drill the head off of all four rivets. There is a possibility that the rivet will begin to spin when trying to drill off the head. If this happens, you can use a pair of pliers to grip the back side of the rivet where it protrudes from the throttle body. (See Fig2) Once all four rivet heads have been drilled off, you will need to use the small drift pin and a small hammer to knock out the remaining portion of each rivet. (See Fig3)
You are now ready to remove the failed TPS sensor. Be careful when removing the failed TPS sensor that you do not allow the intermediate gear to fall out and become lost. (See Fig4) Next, install your new Dorman Products TPS sensor on the throttle body. Take notice of the two electrical tabs on the throttle body when installing the sensor. You want to make sure that they are aligned properly with the TPS sensor as they may be damaged if alignment is not correct. (See Fig5)
Now that the new TPS sensor is installed you are now ready to permanently attach the TPS sensor with the included rivets. Insert a rivet into the sensor mounting hole and attach with the proper rivet gun. (See Fig6 and Fig7) Repeat this action for the next three rivets. Once the new TPS sensor has been properly secured connect the new electrical pigtail and reassemble all items removed to gain access to the TPS sensor.
