Key Coding Instructions

  1. Step 1: Check that key can be inserted completely. Ensure the key slot is aligned with the raised indicators.
  2. Step 2: If the key cannot be easily inserted, use a slotted screwdriver to turn the key slot clockwise ONLY until it aligns with the indicators.
  3. Step 3: Remove the cap from the tumbler shell.
  4. Step 4: Install the tumbler assembly with the key into the vehicle.

Before you begin: Be sure to perform the key coding procedure prior to installation. Do not force the key into the tumbler assembly or turn it counterclockwise to aid insertion.

  • NOTE: This kit allows you to repine your new lock cylinder to your existing key without requiring any specialty tools. Be sure to perform this key coding procedure prior to  installation.

KEY CODING INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1:

  • Key slot must be aligned with raised indicators. Use a slotted screwdriver to turn key slot clockwise ONLY (when facing key slot opening) until it is aligned with indicators.

  • STEP 2:

  • Check that key can be inserted completely. If it cannot be easily inserted, repeat Step 1. Do not force the key into the tumbler assembly or turn it counterclockwise
    to aid insertion.

  • STEP 3: DORMAN-924-784-Mechanical-Key-Relearn-Ignition-Lock-Cylinder- \(3\)

  • Rotate key one half turn (180°) clockwise until you hear a click and stop.

    •   NOTE: If you rotate past click, turn key clockwise until it is aligned with raised indicators again, as in Step 1.
  • STEP 4:DORMAN-924-784-Mechanical-Key-Relearn-Ignition-Lock-Cylinder- \(4\)

    • Rotate key one half turn (180°) counter-clockwise until key and tumbler assembly releases.
  • STEP 5:

    • Remove cap from tumbler shell, then install tumbler assembly with key into vehicle.
