Software update instruction for X-F275 from 4.1 or v4.2 to v4.3
WARNING:
• If you do not have v4.1 or v4.2 installed, please install it first before
update to v4.3
• the previous update v4.1 has a different operation sequence and differs from
v4.3.
The version information can be found under SETTINGS > Others.
Change notes for SW (v4.2) and v4.3:
Navigation (@v4.2):
In case of a regular powering off the head unit, the system will unmount the
microSD drive to reduce risk of data loss.
It is still required for proper handling of the microSD card by the operator.
Avoid ejecting the microSD Card directly while the head unit is still powerd
on. It is recommended to eject the microSD Card soonest 10 seconds after the
head unit is completely powered off. To avoid data corruption on the microSD
card, handle the microSD card outside the microSD reader with care. Do not
touch the pins and avoid electro-static-discharge (ESD). At PC follow, the
best practices on external storage devices like safe eject ect.
General:
- (@v4.2) Modification for a sub variant on newer HDMI ICs built into later productions. In some exceptional cases issuing PWR button OFF and Ignition OFF in a short time, the head unit was blocked for approx.. 2 minutes and could not be turned ON faster.
- (@v4.2) Providing a new DAB Station Cover Database DEC 2023 version.
- (@v4.3) Enables Software for
Step: 1 Download of SW and preparation of a USB flash drive for the update process:
-
Download the self-extracting archive update file (exe file) from the XZENT website. Copy the self-extracting file to a USB flash drive (small capacity size, FAT32 format). See picture 1.
-
Double click the EXE file and extract directly to root directory of the USB flash drive.
See picture 2. -
After extraction you receive/see new 3 files:
• sppf_Autochips_256K.img
• GEMINI_PACK.BIN,
• prom.bin
Attention: in some rare cases, the USB-flash-drive may not be detected by the
XZENT device. If one step fails, please re-check files (re-download, re-
extract) or try-use a different brand/manufacturer USB flash drive item and/or
change the memory size (<1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB …).
Do NOT download and execute (extraction) directly to PC.
Do not copy the multiple extracted files to your USB flash drive – copy the
single archive file to the USB flash drive and extract it there.
Step 2 : installing the software v4.3
Approximately required time for APP/MCU Update ~10 minutes (without
preparation time).
-
Power on your XZENT device.
-
Wait until your device is fully started and showing a media source (FM, DAB, USB, ect.).
-
After (2) and NOT earlier – connect the prepared USB flash drive to USB-1 port.
-
Enter Home screen > choose system SETTINGS.> choose Others > select
-
The Start update pop up will enable the check button only if the USB flash drive is connected to UBS-1 port and the files are correctly extracted. Click now on the check button.
-
The device will automatically restart.
-
After the restart, the standard Bootlogo will be displayed for a short while.
-
APP will be installed now when the „Updateing…“ screen is displayed (see picture). The progress bar requires 8 to 10 min. to reach 100% and confirms with a „Update successful!“ message. In case of an ERROR please check the troubleshooting section at the end of the document.
-
The device will continue to boot and shows again the default boot logo for a short time.
-
The device will now load settings and prepare initializing all sources when showing the main menu.
-
Now the MCU update will be executed and shows „updating MCU Software“ with a blue progress bar.
Duration about 1 min., at 100% the user will be informed. Remove the USB stick on port 1 before you press the OK-Button -
The device will be auto restarting. Please wait until the device is fully started and shows a media source. Check now your detail version by entering SETUP > OTHERS > SOFTWARE VERSION INFO. Compare the installed SW with the software listed in box on step 5.
Step 3: [GPS] DR Sensor Update
Approximately required time ~1 minute.
XZENT utilize 2 different modules for the models. Models equipped with >$ver,
1.7.32, rev, 21.12.06 can update to 24.02.19. The other model will tell the DR
FW is not required to update.
This step can only be carried out if at least the v4.3 APP is installed. If
v4.3 is installed, this step can also be carried out independently without
updating the other modules.
Open the device settings – reconnect the USB Update stick with prom.bin at
USB-1:
Settings > Others > go to the bottom page view to “DR Sensor Update” (see 1)
and select the line to start the DR sensor update (2). The process takes about
1 minute (3). Once the installation is complete, a success message is
displayed and the installed DR sensor FW version is displayed, which is
required for version check at step 5 (4).
The DR sensor version can be displayed again later by performing a <DR sensor
reset>. This briefly restarts the IC and interrupts the GPS signal.
Step 4: DAB FW installation (optional in case of v15 or higher DAB version installed):
Approximately required time ~5 minute.
This step is only required if the V15 DAB FW IS NOT installed. Customers with
previously v4.1 or v4.2 installed – DO NOT require repeating the DAB FW
Update. Customers with older DAB FW than v15 installed, please update DAB FW.
The DAB FW update can also be updated separately. A separate, newer DAB FW can
also be made available for this purpose at
https://www.xzent.com/support/software/ If a separate DAB FW is published,
you will find customised instructions with the version.
Note : to avoid accidentally repeating APP or MCU update, you can delete
1. If not in DAB mode, switch to DAB source now.
2. Reconnect the prepared USB flash drive with the
3. Wait ~3 sec until a PopUp dialog appears for DAB-FW (see pictrue).
4. As soon as the progress bar starts to increase – remove the USB flash
drive now. Removing the USB flash drive here is without risk and avoid a
repeated update cycle.
5. The progressbar of DAB-FW update requires 3 to 5 min. until it reaches
100% and then shows SUCCESS. Shortly after the SUCCESS message, the device
will automatically restart.
The DAB FW Update is now completed – please verify main system version and DAB
FW version before using the new SW.
Step 5: Software Version check (all modules):
The Main System Software version can be found under SETTINGS > OTHERS >
SOFTWARE VERSION INFO

Step 6: Loading Factory Settings
Load factory settings from Setup > Others > Load Factory > OK
Your device is now ready for regular use if the full software has been
successfully installed.
Remarks / Troubleshooting
- V4.3 can only be installed on v4.1 or newer. If older SW is installed, update first to v4.1.
- In v4.3 the APP/MCU SW installing process needs to be started via Settings > Others > Install Software. The SW can only be completely installed if the USB-1 port is used. DAB FW and DR Sensor FW can be updated directly (see step 3 and 4)
- With the DAB FW update, a FULL SCAN can first be triggered on devices that have an empty station list. The FULL SCAN dialog and the DAB update dialog can overlap here. You can cancel the FULL SCAN without any problems to see the installation progress better.
- If an ERROR appears in a sub-step – the USB stick should be checked and replaced or redone (format, download, extract, copy).
- In case of an APP installation ERROR, the device can restart in a continuous loop until a USB stick with a correctly readable APP update is found. The device can be temporarily switched off or disconnected from the power supply until a working USB stick can be connected.
- It can happen that the MCU update will not progress visibly and stays at 0%. In case the progress bar does not advance after 1 min, simply restart the device to try another time – in this case completed APP updates will not repeat but the MCU update will be triggered again. If the problem keeps same after 2nd try, please verify the update files and repeat the USB stick preparations.
