CAMEC MANUAL STEP

How to install the step in the vehicle

  1. Secure the step to the floor with no. six M8 screws considering a distance between centers of 532×153 mm.
  2. Secure the step to the surface with no. 4 washers Ø 8×24 and no. 4 M8 self-locking nuts.
  3. For proper operation of the step, secure it to a perfectly flat surface, otherwise its structure will warp after tightening the self-locking nuts due to the level difference of the 4 fastening points. This could cause difficulty to close the step .
  4. In compliance with EN 1646 standard, when the installed step is unfolded, certain distance values should be guaranteed between the ground and the step platform and between the platform and the vehicle entrance.

Use and maintenance

We recommend that you accurately clean and grease the various parts of the Step once a year as following:
Remove sand and dirt from the various articulated joints of the Step and, first of all, lubricate with synthetic oil the rotation point of the front levers where the springs are installed.
We suggest that you periodically service the Step before seasonal garaging, or in any case after the winter period.

Replacing or reloading the twisting springs

The twisting springs allowing the automatic return of the Step to its initial position may eventually need to be reloaded or, in extreme cases, might break.
To reload the springs:

  1. Find a 17 open-end wrench and a ratchet wrench combined with a 17 socket
  2. Pay great attention to replace wom-out or broken springs with new ones of exactly the same type: there are left and right springs. To determine whether the spring to be replaced is the left or the right one, always work in front of the Step.
  3. Before loading the springs, position the M17 nuts quite near the structure so that they may be tightened just after half a tum.
  4. On the right side of the open Step, insert the wrench no. 17 on the hexagonal pin where the spring is positioned and rotate clockwise. Then insert the ratchet wrench into the M10 nut and turn counter clockwise until the nut is tight.
  5. Reposition the open-end wrench on the hexagonal pin, loosen the M10 nut, rotate the hexagonal pin clockwise fully home, then tighten the M10 nut.
  6. Repeat steps 3-5 until the spring is completely wound and fits the hexagonal pin, then tighten the M10 nut.
  7. To load the left spring, follow the same instructions but always turn both components (pin and spring) clockwise.

Opening the Step

To open the Step, proceed as follows:
Hold the footboard of the Step and pull it outwards until it is parallel to the ground (warning: at the beginning the footboard will tilt upwards) and reaches its natural mechanical lock.
Remember that you might need to pull hard to open new steps or steps with very compressed springs.
To close the Step again, simply lift the footboard upwards. The Step will return to its initial position due to the springs’ action. However, we recommend that you hold the footboard during this operation to avoid violent impacts which might damage the microswitch or reduce the twisting springs life cycle.
Warning! Do not set the Step in motion while people or objects are over it. The manufacturer is not responsible for damages derived or caused by a wrong use.
