The HS40 is a powerful headlamp as well as a versatile tool lamp. It utilises a powerful Providential a nice beam for working, running, hiking and more. Powered by one 18650 battery and featuring a simple but elaborated user interface, HS40 is your reliable partner for every day use.

Safety Instructions

  • HS40 is a powerful headlamp. Never point the beam directly at a person, animal or moving vehicles. Doing so could cause retinal damage. Please do not allow children to play with it. Demonstrably cause seizure in persons with photosensitive epilepsy.
  • Operating the headlamp for a long time in Turbo or High mode will warm it up. And to protect it from over-heating, it steps down lower mode automatically. This is normal.
  • HS40 is intended to be used with an 18650 rechargeable battery.
  • When installing the battery, make sure the anode (+) side always faces towards the head/LED.
  • Unscrew the tail cap half a turn to avoid unwanted activation during transport. It also prevents the battery from draining while the headlamp is in standby.
  • Avoid hitting or dropping the headlamp.

Notes**| The above mentioned parameters are based on tests according to international flashlight testing standards (ANSI/NEMA FL1) using one 3000mAh 18650 Li-ion battery in our laboratory. Results may vary with different batteries or under different environmental conditions.

Circuit Protection

  • It’s protected from improper battery installation.

  • When it’s too hot at Turbo or high mode, it automatically steps down to lower mode to prevent overheating.

  • It automatically steps down to lower modes when the 18650 battery does not have enough power.

  • It turns off when voltage is lower than 2.7V.

  • Please replace or recharge the battery as soon as
    possible.

  • Low power indicator: the headlamp tells battery status, if battery doesn’t have enough power, headlamp stays on lower mod

Battery Installation: Unscrew the tail cap to insert one 18650 battery with the anode side (+) towards the head, then screw the tail cap back on.

Operation Instructions

The switch controls all headlamp functions as follows:

Group 1 (Stepped Mode)
ON/OFF: One click to turn on/off
Change brightness : While on, press and hold to cycle through the modes: Low/Med/High
Shortcut to Moonlight: While off, hold 1 second to moonlight. Release and hold again to select standard
levels: Low/med/High
Turbo: No matter while on or off, double click to Turbo, another click to previous mode.
Strobe: No matter while on or off, triple clicks to Strobe, double click to cycle through Strobe-SOS-Beacon.

Electronic Lockout:
HS40 comes with a lockout function to prevent accidental activation, e.g. while off, 4 fast clicks to lock the lamp, it blinks twice to indicate locked. You can only use moonlight by holding the switch while being locked. Another 4 fast clicks to deactivate lockout. If you insert USB cable to charge it, this is another way to deactivate lockout.

Toggle between Group 1 and Group 2:
While on, 4 clicks to change from Group 1 to Group 2, and vice versa.

Group 2 (Ramping Mode)
ON/OFF: One click to turn on/off While on, press and hold to change brightness sleeplessly between Moon and Turbo. Press again within 1.5 seconds to change the direction. The light flashes once when it reaches highest/lowest level. Other functions work the same as in Group 1

Troubleshooting and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can damage the headlamp and voids the warranty.

  • Sofirn Ltd. recommends using high-quality brand batteries. Damage by battery leakage voids the warranty.

  • Remove the battery if the headlamp will not be used for an extended period of time.

  • To prevent self-discharge or accidental activation during storage or transportation, unscrew the tailcap
    by half a turn or remove the battery.

  • Every 6 months threads should be wiped with a clean cloth followed by a thin layer of silicone grease.

  • To maintain a proper level of waterproofs, replace worn-out o-rings with an approved spare.

  • Troubleshooting: Clean battery contacts regularly as dirty contacts may impair the performance of the headlamp.If you experience problems (flicker, shine intermittently or failure turn on) the following root causes and solutions should be tried:

Reason A: The battery needs a replacement.
Solution: Replace the battery with an approved type of a fully charged battery.
Reason B: Threads, PCB board contact or other contacts are dirty.
Solutions: Please clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.
Reason C : The headlamp will not turn on upon first use.
Solution: Please do not forget to remove the insulation sticker from the battery on first use.
