-
Consult your oral health professional before prolonged use of this product.

-
Do not use hot water to clean your trays and do not put in them in the dishwasher. Doing so will deform the trays.
-
Do not use damaged trays as gel could leak, resulting in gum irritation.

Potential adverse effects
Adverse effects that may be caused by the use of a whitening product
containing peroxide include, but are not limited to:
Gum irritation
When whitening gel comes in contact with your gums, it may cause gum
irritation. This includes redness, a burning feeling, or white spots on the
gums.
If you see any gel on your gums or notice a burning feeling:
- Use a cotton swab or soft-bristled toothbrush to remove any excess gel from your gums.
- Refer to the quick start guide and the practice card to determine the correct amount of gel per tooth impression. Each syringe contains enough gel for at least 3 treatments (using top and bottom trays)
- If you still have gum irritation or sensitivity, treatment should be paused until the irritation is gone. Resume treatment with shorter, less frequent treatments until the desired whitening effect has been achieved.
- If the discomfort continues, discontinue the treatment and consult your dentist.
Sensitivity
Some users may experience increased tooth sensitivity to cold during or after
whitening treatment, while others may have non-specific sensitivity or pain in
their teeth, gums, tongue, lips or throat.
If you experience tooth sensitivity:
- Try whitening every other or every third day.
- If you are currently using 9.5% hydrogen peroxide gel, consider purchasing a 6% hydrogen peroxide gel refill kit for a more gradual and comfortable whitening experience. Gel refills can be purchased separately.
- An over-the-counter desensitizing toothpaste with 5% potassium nitrate (KNO3) can be used to treat tooth sensitivity, adhering to the respective toothpaste instructions.
- A Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug may be taken for pain, adhering to the respective drug‘s instructions for use as well as your doctor‘s recommendation for acceptable use.
- Symptoms should subside within 1 to 3 days.
First aid instructions
- Contact a Poison Information Center or medical doctor at once if a large quantity (over 25% of syringe contents) is swallowed. Provide the ingredient label if possible. Do not induce vomiting and immediately consume a glass of water.
- If whitening gel gets into the eyes, hold the eyelids apart and flush the eyes continuously with running water for at least 15 minutes.
- If clothing, skin or hair contact occurs, remove and rinse contaminated clothing and flush the skin or hair with running water.
- If an allergic reaction to the whitening gel occurs, remove the whitening trays, wipe off your teeth, rinse out your mouth, and seek immediate medical attention.
Precautions
- Ensure trays have a snug and comfortable fit and do not have rough edges.
- Do not use any household products for teeth whitening.
- Rinse trays thoroughly between uses. Use cold water only, to avoid damage to the trays. If necessary, use a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove residual gel.
- Avoid exposure of hypersensitive teeth to whitening gel.
- Do not overfill trays with whitening gel as gum irritation may occur.
- Exceeding specified wear times may result in tooth sensitivity and/or gum irritation, and will not lead to better results.
Forming upper and lower trays
Before first use, the tray needs to be fitted to your teeth. This ensures a
custom fit, giving you the best whitening results. This process only needs to
be completed once, after that the fitted trays can be re-used.
Note: Do not use trays if damaged.
To fit the trays, you will need the following:
- A large cup or medium-sized bowl filled with cold water
- A large cup or medium-sized bowl for boiling water
- Boiling water
- Scissors (optional)
-
Remove two trays from the packaging. Rinse the trays before beginning the fitting process.
Place them on a clean surface.
Note: The upper and lower trays are identical (before fitting).
Note: This teeth whitening kit includes two sets of trays. The second set of trays can be used if you need an extra pair. -
Practice the fitting process before you start the actual fitting process:
- Place one tray over your upper teeth.
- Gently bite down on the tray.
- Suck the air from the tray.
- Use your fingers to apply pressure on the outside of the tray.
- Use your tongue to apply pressure on the tray from the inside, pressing the tray against your teeth.
-
Fill a bowl or a large cup with at least 4 inches (10 cm) of boiling water, so the tray can be fully submerged.
Warning: Be careful not to touch the hot water with your fingers. -
Holding the tab, carefully submerge one tray in hot water holding the tab for 5 seconds.
Make sure that the front surface of the tray is also submerged.
Note: Only fit one tray at a time. -
Lift the tray vertically from the water using the tab.
-
Carefully and quickly place the tray around your teeth, ensuring that the sides don’t fold in and stick together. If needed, use your fingers to spread the sides apart, to create space for your teeth.
-
Make sure that the tray is properly centered and immediately perform the following steps at the same time:
- Gently bite down on the tray.
- Suck the air from the tray.
- Use your fingers to apply pressure on the outside of the tray.
- Use your tongue to apply pressure on the tray against your teeth.
- Hold for 20-30 seconds.
-
Remove the tray and dip it into the large cup or medium-size bowl filled with cold water or rinse it under the tap with cold water.
-
Place the tray back in your mouth.
The tray has been correctly fitted if it fits snugly on your teeth and does not move when you open your mouth.
If you are satisfied with the fit, repeat steps 3-9 to fit the other tray to
your lower teeth. Use new boiling water for best results.
Note: If the trays are too loose, you can try dipping the trays in the
hot water again and repeat steps 3-9 to get a better fit, or start over with a
new set of trays. The starter kit comes with two sets of two trays in case you
need an extra pair.
When you have successfully fitted both trays, you can remove the tabs by
cutting them off with scissors. You may also leave the tabs on to make it
easier to insert and remove the trays.
Whitening instructions
Preparing for use and applying gel
-
Floss and brush your teeth.
-
Remove the orange protective cap from the syringe by twisting it in a counterclockwise motion, and pulling it off.
Warning: Point the tip away from yourself while removing the cap, as the contents may be under pressure. -
Place the mixing nozzle on the syringe and secure it by twisting it in a clockwise motion. Remove the tip protector from the tip of the nozzle.
-
Use the included card to practice dispensing the correct amount of gel per tooth impression. Dispose card in trash after dispensing gel on it.
-
If the trays have been fitted correctly, you should see impressions of your teeth in the trays. Place a small amount of gel in each tooth impression, where the bottom and front surfaces of the trays meet.
Note: Image is not scale, refer to the Quick Start Guide or Practice Card for correct dot size.
Note: The whitening gel is absorbed into the tooth and whitens from the inside, so it is not important to cover the entire tooth with whitening gel.
Warning: Do not overfill your tray with gel, as this may cause gum irritation when excess gel gets pushed out of the trays and onto your gums. -
Place the small orange mixing nozzle cap back on the mixing nozzle.
-
Rotate the mixing nozzle counterclockwise and pull it off the syringe.
-
Place the orange protective cap back onto the syringe and rotate it clockwise to ensure that the ingredients in each side of the syringe stay separate during storage. Place the syringe and mixing nozzle back into the box.
-
Place both trays with gel in your mouth. As you insert the trays, be careful not to apply too much pressure which may push the gel out of the trays.
- Use extra care to avoid getting gel on your gums. Remove excess gel with a cotton swab or soft dry toothbrush, to avoid causing gum irritation.
- Bubbling within the trays is normal.
- Do not eat, drink or smoke while wearing trays.
Wearing the whitening trays
- The recommended wear time is 30 minutes per day.
- You may continue to wear the trays for more than 30 minutes.
- Do not wear your whitening trays for more than 60 minutes, as this will not improve the whitening results and may lead to tooth sensitivity and/or gum irritation.
After use
-
When you are done with your whitening treatment, remove the trays from your mouth, rinse your mouth with water and brush your teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove any excess gel.
-
Clean the trays by rinsing them under cold tap water. Do not use any soap or other cleaning agents. If necessary, use a toothbrush to remove residual gel from the trays.
Warning: Do not use hot water or the dishwasher to clean trays. Doing so will deform them. -
Place the trays in the storage case and allow the trays to air-dry before closing the storage case.
Store the trays and the syringes in a cool, dry place between 59°F and 77°F (15°C and 25°C). Do not refrigerate or freeze the gel. -
Avoid staining foods, drinks (such as coffee, tea and red wine) and tobacco for 30 minutes after each treatment.
-
Continue good oral hygiene by brushing twice a day and flossing.
Note: It is normal to see dark colors in trays where you have amalgam (silver) fillings.
Storage instructions
- Allow the trays to air dry before closing the tray case and storing. Store them in a cool, dry place between uses.
- Whitening gel should be stored between 59 °F and 77 °F (15 °C and 25 °C) in a dark, dry place. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Storage temperatures above 77 °F (25 °C) will result in reduced shelf life. After opening a syringe, it can be kept for 30 days.
Achieving and maintaining whitening results
- For best results, use your Philips Sonicare Teeth Whitening Gel at least 30 minutes daily for 9 days in a row.
- To keep your white smile, the full 9-day whitening process can be repeated as needed every 4-6 months.
- The frequency will depend on a number of factors, such as your current dental condition, your natural teeth color and consumption of staining food and drinks (such as coffee, tea and red wine).
Gel refills
- Gel refills can be purchased separately. Two different options are available: 6% hydrogen peroxide and 9.5% hydrogen peroxide.
- If you are currently using 6% and are experiencing no sensitivity, consider 9.5% for your next refill, for better results.
- If you are currently using 9.5% and experience tooth sensitivity, consider 6% for your next refill, for a more gradual and comfortable whitening experience.
- Refills can be used as needed every 4-6 months.
Whitening expectations
Whitening results vary from person to person, and depend on many factors,
including: anatomy, age, tooth condition, hygiene and your current tooth
shade.
- Your Philips Sonicare Teeth whitening gel refills comes with a shade guide, which you can use to track your progress over the 9days of use
- Note that crowns, veneers, fillings, dentures and other restorations will not whiten.
- Tooth whitening may cause temporary dehydration of teeth resulting in white spots or striations. Uneven whitening will fade to normal within 2-7 days of using the whitening product.
- Final results will be achieved about 1 week after completion of your 9-day whitening treatment series.
- The area of the tooth closest to the gums may take longer to lighten than the biting edge. It will also remain the darkest part of the tooth.
Disposal instructions
Follow your country‘s rules for the separate collection of products. Correct
disposal helps prevent negative consequences for the environment and human
health.
