COPPER COMPRESSION CONNECTOR INSTALLATION

  1. Use a connector marked for the wire size and wire material to be used. NEVER use a copper connector on aluminium wire.
  2. Strip wire insulation to the approximate length shown on tool chart. DO NOT nick or ring the conductor strands.
  3. Clean the wire.
  4. Insert the stripped wire into the connector until the wire stops.
  5. Use the tool chart on the reverse side of this sheet to:
  6. select the crimp tool to terminate the part,
  7. select the crimp die listed under tool selection by matching the crimp die colour code and die index number of the crimp die to colour bands and the die index number marked on the connector
  8. Note number of crimps to be placed in the connector is shown in ( ) next to die color code and die index number in the tool chart.
  9. Crimp the connector by placing the first crimp in the barrel near the tongue of the lug or wire stop in the splice and place successive crimps in the barrel of the connector working towards the wire entry. Evenly space crimps on the barrel of the connector using barrel stripes as a guide. Barrel stripes do not designate the number of crimps to be placed in a barrel of the connector.

  1. After crimping, inspect for sharp edges, flash or burrs and remove if present.

HEAT SHRINK INSULATION INSTRUCTION

  1. Refer to the Panduit catalog or www.panduit.com for heat shrink material information, tubing size, voltage rating, and shrink temperature.
  2. Cut tubing to length allowing insulation coverage as desired. Allow a minimum of 1-1/2″ inch overlap on wire insulation.
  3. Shrink with a standard propane torch or heat gun, MOVING FROM CRIMPED PORTION OF CONNECTOR TOWARD INSULATED WIRE. Adhesive flow at ends indicates shrinkage complete.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: Can I use a copper connector on the aluminium wire?

A: No, you should NEVER use a copper connector on the aluminium wire. It is essential to match the connector material to the wire material for safety and performance.

Q: How do I determine the correct wire strip length for the connector?

A: Refer to the tool chart provided in the user manual. The chart specifies the wire strip length based on the wire size and connector type.

Q: What should I do if I notice sharp edges after crimping?
