A FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL WILL BE HELPFUL IN PERFORMING THIS INSTALLATION. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PERFORM THIS INSTALLATION IF YOU ARE NOT CONFIDENT IN YOUR ABILITY TO COMPLETE ALL OF THE STEPS IN THE PROCEDURE; CONSULT A TRAINED TECHNICIAN. IMPROPER INSTALLATION COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
Note: When removing the backing plate, remove the breather bolts first and then the three manifold bolts. Loosen the three manifold bolts equally a little bit at a time until backing plate is free from manifold. Removing one bolt at a time while the backing plate is snug against manifold may cause damage to the manifold and/or backing plate. Use medium strength thread locker on all hardware.
-
Remove existing air cleaner assembly and induction cover (if used) per the manufacturer’s recommendations.
-
Install the three manifold bolts with gasket between manifold and backing plate. Leave loose enough to allow movement for now.
Tip: Use long ¼-20 bolts with heads cut off to help align. See picture1.
-
Install each of two breather bolts through backing plate, short spacer then into the head. Align the backing plate with manifold then torque breather bolts to 144 in/lbs. using 5/16″ allen. See picture #2
-
Maintain manifold alignment and tighten the three manifold bolts to 5560 in/lbs. using 3/16″ allen.
-
Install breather cover plates for each side using two small allen screws each and carefully snug down using 5/64″ allen wrench.
Note: Make sure to use thread locker to avoid screws from becoming loose and getting sucked into intake.
Tip: Add a bit of paint or RTV to screw heads for added assurance. See picture #3. -
Make sure element has proper amount of filter oil on it then gently press the filter element onto the backing plate making sure to get it fully seated into the groove. See Picture #4.
-
Install each of two long allen bolts through cover, small washers, then through long spacer. See picture #5. Insert cover on filter element making sure to get element fully seated into the groove around cover and backing plate. Start the bolts into threaded holes in the backing plate. Torque 50-55 in/lbs. using 3/16″ allen.
-
Install insert using four small screws and snug down gently using 3/32″ allen. Do not over torque or you will strip allen head.
-
Wipe down all surfaces and enjoy your new Kodlin performance air cleaner. See Picture #6.
Note: Applying a small amount of heat will help when removing small
hardware installed with thread locker.
Warning: Make sure no fuel fumes are present!
Note: No warranty coverage is provided by Kodlin that is due to improper installation or lack of maintenance. Periodic maintenance and inspection are required. It is the installer’s responsibility to ensure that all the fasteners are tightened before operation of the motorcycle. We recommend following the Mfg.’s torque specs.
