  2. Iron Lever
  3. Plane Base
  4. Palm Rest Screw
  5. Lever Cam
  6. Blade
  7. Lateral Adjusting Lever
  8. Depth Adjusting Screw
  9. Palm Rest

NOTE:

  1. Move Iron Lever (2) to left or right to close or open the mouth. In principle, the harder the timber, the smaller the mouth setting.
  2. Move lateral adjusting level (7) to left or right to keep the blade laterally.
  3. Turn depth adjusting screw (8) clockwise or counterclockwise to extend or retract blade.

SETTING THE PLANE

Insert the blade (6) in plane with bevel up. Ensure blade (6) is properly located where adjustment mechanisms are provided. Replace palm rest (9) and turn lever cam (5) to secure assembly. On adjustable block plane the palm rest (9) is located on the lever screw (4) which may be adjusted to optimise the security of the blade.

TO ADJUST BLADE

To adjust the depth of the blade, loosen the palm rest screw (4) by using a slotted tip screwdriver and turn the lever cam (5) counterclockwise until there is a small amount of resistance, turn plane upside down (See Fig. 1 ), make knob toward to you and positioning with eyes by horizontally from the bottom level. Adjust blade with depth adjusting screw (8) and lateral adjusting lever (7), until desired cutting edge is obtained. Re-tighten the palm rest screw (4) and lever cam (5) until it feels snug – do not over tighten!WORKPRO-W052004A-Wood-Planer-fig- \(2\)

Mouth Adjustment

  • The mouth adjustment can be altered in accordance with the type of cut required.
  • Finer work will require a small mouth whereas general purpose work will require a larger mouth.
  • To adjust the mouth, hold the plane base (3) of the plane in your hand (use caution, plane blade is sharp) and loosen the front knob (1) by turning counterclockwise(See Fig. 2).
  • Adjust the mouth opening with the iron lever (2) protruding from beneath the front knob (See Fig. 3).After setting the desired opening, re-snug by turning the front knob (1) clockwise. Your mouth adjustment should normally be set to just wider than the thickest shaving you plan on taking off the work piece.

TO HONE BLADE

Your blade (6) is made of T1 0A steel which means it can hold its edge longer. Your blade is ready for use and has been honed to an angle of 25 degrees. You may wish to add an additional bevel of up to 5 degrees for a sharper edge and “back-off” or polish the flat back surface for increase performance. ( See Fig. 4)

  1. Use a flat, oil stone lubricated with a thin machine oil
  2. Hold blade at a 30°degree angle to the stone, hone until burr is formed (Fig. 5)
  3. Remove burr by lightly rubbing blade, bevel side up, on oil stone (FIG. 6)WORKPRO-W052004A-Wood-Planer-fig- \(4\)

Taking Care of Your Plane

  • The plane is packaged in a poly bag which prevents rusting. Once the plane has been taken out of the poly bag, the plane is open to elements, and as such will require care. We recommend that you periodically apply a light coat of wax to the base and keep moving parts lightly oiled when not in use.
  • Always keep your plane clean and remove resin build. You may also wish to consider wrapping your plane in a cloth for additional protection.
