Measurement

General measurement instructions

  • Carefully clean the end of the measuring rod before each measurement.
  • Insert the measuring rod straight into the ground. Do not apply force. If you encounter resistance, try another spot.
  • The rod must be positioned centrally between the plant stem and the edge of the flower pot. For large pots with a diameter of more than 30.5 cm (approx. 12 inches), place the measuring rod so that it is at 1/3 of the distance to the pot rim from the plant stem.
  • If the flower pot is particularly deep, insert the measuring rod deep into the soil until it is among the roots.
  • Temperature and humidity are measured simultaneously.
  • Press the probe gently into the soil to avoid damaging the probe.

Measurement of light intensity

Light intensity measurement range: 9 levels (LOW to HGH+)

Increase in quantity and quality of light

If the measured light intensity is higher/lower than the recommendation, move the plant to a place with less/more sun.

Place the device in the soil so that the light sensor faces the direction of the strongest light. Turn on the device with the ON button. The light intensity will be displayed on the screen. Compare the measurement result with the recommendations in the plant table (Chapter „Plant Table“).

Measurement of soil pH value

pH value measurement range: 12 steps (3.5 to 9.0; display resolution: 0.5)
LO and HH = the measurement result is outside the measurement range
If the measured pH value is higher than the recommendation, add some granite meal, sulfur powder, or peat into the soil.

If the measured pH value is lower than the recommendation, add some lime into the soil.
The amount of acid or alkali in the soil is measured by the „pH value.

A high concentration of acid slows down the beneficial work of bacteria in the soil.
Excess alkali in the soil reduces nutrient content and increases salt concentration, inhibiting plant growth.

  • Set the measurement mode to pH.
  • Insert the probe into the soil.
  • Turn on the device with the ON button. The device begins measuring.
  • You can read the measurement result on the display after some time. Leave the device in the soil for a more accurate result.
  • Compare the measurement result with the recommendations in the plant table.
  • If the tested soil is extremely dry or nutrient-rich and the pH value cannot be tested, the user should sprinkle some water into the soil. Test again after half an hour.\

Soil Moisture Measurement

  • Set the measurement mode to °C.
  • Insert the probe into the soil.
  • Turn on the device with the ON button.
  • You can read the measurement result on the display after some time. Leave the device in the soil for a more accurate result.
  • Compare the measurement result with the recommendations in the plant table.

Increase in water content

Moisture range: 5 levels (Very Dry, Dry, Normal, Wet, Very Wet)
Water content at the test site:
DRY under 10% | NOR 10% to 20% | WET over 20%

  • If the measured moisture is lower than recommended, water the plant until the recommended range is reached.
  • If the measured moisture is higher than recommended, stop watering until the recommended range is reached.

Soil Temperature Measurement

Temperature measurement range:

  • 9°C to +50°C/16°F to 122°F
  • Set the measurement mode to °C.
  • Insert the probe into the soil.
  • Turn on the device with the ON button.
  • You can read the measurement result on the display. If the device is not in the soil, the ambient temperature will be displayed.

You can switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit units using the °C/°F OFF button.

Cleaning and Care

The product can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Caustic cleaning agents or scouring pads should not be used as they may damage the
