FAQs
- Q: What should I do if water is discharged from the pressure relief valve when the appliance is turned off?
- A: Check the pressure-reducing valve as outlined in the maintenance section of the manual.
- Q: What could be causing water discharge from the pressure relief valve while the appliance is heating?
- A: This could be due to pressure build-up caused by water expansion. Check the charge of the expansion vessel as per maintenance instructions.
- Q: How can I address water discharge from the pressure relief valve during appliance heating?
- A: Ensure there are no obstructions between the water heater and expansion vessel, referring to the installation diagram provided in section 2.
Overview
- Thank you for purchasing an SF7 Pressure and Expansion Kit with a fast-install inlet group (manifold) incorporating a check valve and service valve.
- To be used with the Speedflow range of unvented water heaters, available in 5, 10 and 15L capacity.
- Please read and follow these instructions to ensure that installation and operation are as simple and safe as possible.
Box Contents

Installation
The installation of this kit should be carried out by a competent person per any local plumbing regulations.
Important: Grey area represents an expansion zone. It is imperative that no fittings, other than those specified, are fitted in the expansion zone:
- Connect the inlet of the manifold to the incoming water supply. The orientation of the manifold is optional, but the direction of flow must follow the arrow marked on the manifold.
- Connect the flexible hose to the bottom outlet of the manifold using the supplied black washer.
- Connect the ½” to 15mm compression fitting to the top outlet of the manifold using the supplied black washer.
- Select a suitable location for the expansion vessel, consider the reach of the flexible hose as well as the need to keep the vessel itself in an upright orientation (hose connection at the bottom).
- Attach the bracket to the wall before securing the vessel to it using the supplied banding.
- Connect the flexible hose to the vessel using the black washer.
- Using a length of 15 mm piping, connect the pressure relief valve (supplied with the heater) to the top outlet of the manifold. Run the outlet side of the pressure relief valve to a suitably safe drain via the tundish. The tundish must be installed vertically.
- Make the final connection to the cold inlet of the water heater from the remaining outlet of the manifold.
- Choose a suitable location to install the pressure-reducing valve. It must be upstream of the expansion vessel and nearby cold water draw-off.
- The orientation of the valve is optional, but the direction of flow must follow the arrows marked on the body of the valve.
- The pressure-reducing valve offers 15mm compression fittings on the inlet/ outlet.
Commissioning
- Upon completion of installation, turn on the water supply to the manifold and allow the water heater to fill. Open the hot water tap to allow air to be purged from the system.
- Once the water runs smoothly from the hot water tap and the air is purged from the system, close the tap, and inspect all fittings for leaks. Inspect the tundish to ensure no signs of discharge from the pressure relief valve (see section 6. Trouble Shooting).
- Turn on power to the water heater and set the thermostat dial to maximum temperature. This is required to ensure the expansion vessel can accommodate the full amount of expansion the water heater can produce.
- Allow the heating cycle to finish and inspect all fittings for leaks. Inspect the tundish to ensure no signs of discharge from the pressure relief valve (see section 6. Trouble Shooting).
- Upon completion of commissioning, set the water heater to the desired temperature setting and leave these instructions for future reference with the property owner/ user of this kit.
Maintenance
- Whilst the system is unpressurised and with the vessel drained of any water, check the expansion vessel to ensure the pressure meets that stated on the rating label. This must be done annually or if unexplained discharge from the relief valve is present.
- Refer to the instructions supplied separately with the pressure-reducing valve for maintenance guidance.
- Keep records of maintenance and ensure any future occupier of the building is fully aware of the requirement for maintenance.
