TIPS FOR FOOD DEHYDRATION

  • The dehydration time for pre-processed fruit depends on:
    • The thickness of the pieces or slices of food
    • The number of trays with food
    • The volume of food
    • The humidity of the working environment
    • Your preferences
  • It is recommended that you:
    • Check your food every hour.
  • Rotate and/or re-stack the trays if you notice uneven drying.
    • Label food with the type of food, the dehydration date, and how much it weighed before drying. It is also helpful to record the drying time for future reference.
    • Proper storage!; le after drying will also help maintain the quality of the food and preserve nutrients.
  • Storage tips for dehydrated food:
    • Store food only after it has cooled down.
    • Food will keep longer if it is stored in a cool, dry, dark place.
    • Remove all the air from the storage container and close it tightly.
    • Optimal storage temperature is 1 S°C or below.
    • Never store food directly in a metal container.
    • Make sure the food is sealed tightly to prevent air from leaking in.
    • Check the dried food for moisture in the weeks following dehydration. If there is moisture, dehydrate the next food for a longer time to avoid spoilage.
    • To ensure quality, dried fruit, vegetables, herbs, nuts, and bread should not be kept in a refrigerator or freezer for more than 1 year.
  • Dried meat, poultry, and fish can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 3 months and in the freezer for up to 1 year.
