This workshop is suitable for those who have never crocheted before or those who may have just started to crochet and need some practice and guidance with their technique. The class is intended for beginners, working in a small group in a friendly and supportive environment. Refreshments will be provided.

On this course you will learn:

  • How to hold the crochet hook
  • How to make a slip knot
  • How to make a chain
  • How to make the double crochet stitch
  • How to make the treble crochet stitch*
  • How to count your chains & stitches
  • How to crochet in rows
  • How to crochet in rounds.
  • Basic crochet pattern terminology
  • How to fasten off
  • How to sew in ends
  • How to block your crochet

Morning session: 10am – 12.30pm
In this session you will be shown how to start your crochet by making a foundation chain and then work the double crochet stitch in rows. *If time/progress allows, you will also learn how to make the treble crochet stitch in rows.
The aim of this part of the workshop is to get used to handling the hook and yarn and to practice the basic crochet stitches; there will be no pressure to complete a finished item but depending on progress/previous experience you may work towards finishing something small such as a crochet square/ bookmark/jar cover by the end of the morning.

Break for lunch (12.30-1.30approx) You can bring a packed lunch to eat in the classroom or purchase food from nearby shops/cafes.

Afternoon session: 1.30pm – 4.00pm
In this session you will build on your knowledge and learn the basics of how to crochet in the ‘round’ to make a small circle which can be adapted to create a flower. It may be possible to learn techniques for making other projects in the round if time/progress allows.

Cost
£70
A hook and yarn will be provided for this course. There will be the opportunity to purchase your hook at the end of the session should you wish for £1.50 and the yarn for £3.
If you have already started to crochet and prefer to bring your own hook and yarn this is fine but the cost of the course remains the same. It is recommended that you bring a minimum size 4 hook and double knit (DK) yarn if you choose this option.
