Read this instruction manual before using and keep it available at all times!
This instruction manual contains information about installation, operation and maintenance of the appliance and constitutes an important source of information and reference guide. The knowledge of all operational and safety instructions included in this manual is a prerequisite for safe and proper handling of the appliance. Additionally, accident prevention, occupational health and safety, and legal regulations in force in the area the appliance is used apply.
Before you start using the appliance, especially before turning it on, read this instruction manual in order to avoid personal injuries and property damages. Improper use may cause damage.
This instruction manual forms and integral part of the product and must be stored in an immediate vicinity of the appliance and be available at all times. The instruction manual should be transferred together with the appliance.

Safety

This appliance has been manufactured in accordance with technical standards currently in force. However, the appliance may be a source of hazards if used improperly or contrary to its intended purpose. All persons using the appliance must consider information included in this instruction manual and observe safety instructions.
1.1 Explanation of Signal Words
Important safety instructions and warning information are indicated in this instruction manual with appropriate signal words. You must strictly follow the instructions, to prevent accidents, personal injuries and property damages.
DANGER!
The signal word DANGER warns against hazards that lead to severe injuries or death if the hazards are not avoided.
WARNING!
The signal word WARNING warns against hazards that may lead to moderate or severe injuries or death if the hazards are not avoided.
**CAUTION!
The signal word CAUTION warns against hazards that may lead to light or moderate injuries if the hazards are not avoided.
IMPORTANT!
The signal word IMPORTANT indicates possible property damages, which may occur if safety instructions are not observed.
NOTE!
The symbol NOTE indicates subsequent information and guidelines for the user on usage of the appliance.
1.2 Safety instructions
Electrical Current**

• Too high a mains voltage or incorrect installation may cause electric shock.
• The appliance may be connected only if data on the rating plate correspond with  the mains voltage.
• To avoid short-circuit, the appliance should be kept dry.
• If there are malfunctions during operation, disconnect the appliance from the power supply.
• Do not touch the appliance’s plug with wet hands.
• Never take hold of the appliance if it has fallen into water. Immediately disconnect the appliance from the power supply.
• Any repairs or housing opening may be carried out by professionals and relevant workshops only.
• Do not transport the appliance, holding it by the power cord.
• Do not allow the power cord to come into contact with heat sources or sharp edges.
• Do not bend, pinch nor knot the power cord.
• Always completely unwind the power cord.
• Never place the appliance or other objects on the power cord.
• Always take hold of the plug to disconnect the appliance from the power supply.
• Check the power cord regularly for damage. Do not use the appliance if the power cord is damaged. If this cable is damaged, it must be replaced by customer service or a qualified electrician in order to avoid dangers.

Flammable Materials

• Never subject the appliance to contact with high temperature sources, e.g.: oven, furnace, open flame, heat generating devices, etc.
• To avoid fire hazard, clean the appliance regularly.
• Do not cover the appliance with, e.g., aluminium foil or cloths.
• Use the appliance only with materials designated to this end and with correct temperature settings. Materials, groceries and left-overs remaining in the appliance may catch fire.
• Never use the appliance near flammable or inflammable materials, e.g.: petrol, spirit, alcohol, etc. High temperature triggers evaporation of these materials, and, as a result of contact with sources of ignition, an explosion may occur.
• In case of fire, disconnect the appliance from the power supply before attempting suitable fire-extinguishing actions.
•  Never attempt to extinguish fire with water if the appliance is connected to the power supply. Following extinction of fire, ensure sufficient fresh air inflow.

Hot Surfaces

• Surfaces of the appliance become hot during operation. Burning hazard! High temperature remains for some time after switching the appliance off.
• Do not touch any hot surfaces of the appliance. Use the provided handling elements and holders.
• You may transport and clean the appliance after it cools down entirely.
• It is prohibited to sprinkle hot surfaces with cold water or flammable liquids.

Risk of scalding with hot steam / hot water / condensate!

• Avoid contact with steam escaping from the water tank. Never remove the lid of the water tank during boiling and heating up.
• Never pour water into the water tank during boiling. Leave the appliance to cool before re-filing it.
• Never move nor re-locate the appliance during boiling and heating up.
• After boiling, water in the water tank becomes very hot! Be particularly cautious when handling hot fluids.

Health hazard due to germs!

• The tank must be regularly emptied and disinfected to eliminate the possibility of accumulation of harmful and dangerous germs.

Supervised Usage only

• Only supervised appliance may be used.
• Always remain in an immediate vicinity of the appliance.

Operating personnel

• This appliance is not intended to be used by persons (including children) with limited physical, sensory or mental capabilities, nor by persons with limited  experience and/or limited knowledge.
• Children should be supervised to ensure that they are not playing with or switching the appliance on.

Improper use

• Unintended or prohibited use may cause damage to the appliance.
• The appliance may only be used in a technically flawless condition, providing for safe use.
• The appliance may only be used with connections in a technically flawless condition, providing for safe use.
• The appliance may only be used clean.
• Use only original spare parts. Never attempt to repair the appliance on your own.
• Do not attempt to modify nor alter the appliance.

1.3 Intended Use
As described below, every use of the appliance for a purpose differing and/or diverging from its intended standard use, is prohibited and considered to be an unintended use.
The following is an intended use:
– Preparing tea and other hot and instant beverages.
This appliance is intended for use in households and similar places, e.g.:
– in employee canteens in shops, offices, and similar areas;
– on farms;
– by customers in hotels, motels, and other typical accommodation establishments;
– in lodging-houses.
1.4 Unintended Use
An unintended use may lead to personal injuries or property damages caused by hazardous voltage, fire or high temperature. The appliance may only be used to perform tasks described in this instruction manual.
The following is an unintended use:
– Heating up milk or frothing liquids.
– Heating up soups, sauces or similar thick dishes.
– Heating or boiling of liquids containing sugar, sweeteners, acids, lyes, or alcohols.
– Storing and heating up flammable, harmful, and quickly evaporating liquids or materials, etc.

General information

2.1 Liability and Warranty
All information and instructions in this instruction manual account for legal regulations in force, current level of technical engineering knowledge as well as our expertise and experience, developed over the years. If special models or additional options are ordered, or state-of-the-art technical solutions were implemented, the actual scope of delivery of the appliance may, in some circumstances, differ from descriptions and numerous drawings in this instruction manual.
The manufacturer is not liable for any damages nor faults stemming from:
– failure to observe instructions,
– unintended use,
– technical alterations introduced by the user,
– usage of unapproved spare parts.
We reserve the right to introduce technical modifications to the product, intended for improvement of the appliance and its performance.

This instruction manual, and texts, drawings and images included in it, as well as its other components are copyright protected. It is prohibited to reproduce this instruction manual (including its excerpts), in any form and by any means, and to use and/or transfer its content to third parties without manufacturer’s written permission. Violation of the above results in obligation to pay compensation. We reserve the right to claim further damages.
2.3 Declaration of Conformity
The appliance meets the currently applicable standards and guidelines of the European Union. We confirm the above in the EC Declaration of Conformity. We may provide relevant Declaration of Conformity upon request.

Transport, Packaging and Storage

3.1 Delivery Check
Immediately upon reception, check the delivery for completeness and possible shipping damage. In the case of visible transport damage refuse to accept the appliance or accept it conditionally. Mark and note the scope of damage in shipping documents/consignment list of the shipping company and lodge a complaint.
Concealed damage must be reported immediately upon its discovery, as compensation claims may only be filed within applicable time limits.
If you find that parts or accessories missing, please contact our Customer Service Department.
3.2 Packaging
Do not dispose of the appliance cardboard box. It may be used to store the appliance when relocating or when shipping the appliance to our service point in the case of any damages.
The packaging and its elements are made of recyclable materials. Particularly, these are: plastic films and bags, cardboard box.
When disposing of the packaging, observe applicable domestic regulations.
Recyclable packaging materials should be recycled.
3.3 Storage
Leave the packaging closed until installation of the appliance; observe external indications concerning method of placing and storage. Store the packaging in the following conditions only:
– in closed rooms;
– in dry and dust-free surrounding;
– away from aggressive agents;
– in a location protected against sunlight;
– in a location protected against mechanical shocks.
In the case of extended storage (over three months), make sure you check the condition of the packaging and the parts regularly. If needed, replace the packaging with a new one.

Overheating (Dry-Run) protection
The appliance is equipped with an overheating (dry-run) protection.
The thermostat turns off the device when there is no or too little water in the water tank.
If the overheating protection (dry-run)is activated, disconnect the appliance from the socket and allow it to cool down for a few minutes before refilling the water tank with fresh drinking water.

The samovar is used for boiling water for tea, tea essence and other hot and instant beverages.

Installation and operation

5.1 Installation
Unpacking / Positioning

• Unpack the appliance, remove all external and internal packaging elements and shipment safeguards.

CAUTION!
Choking hazard!
Prevent children from accessing package materials, for instance: plastic bags and EPS.

• If the appliance is covered with a protective film, remove it. Remove the film slowly, so no glue residues are left. Remove any glue residues with the use of a  suitable solvent.

• Be careful not to damage the rating plate and warning labels fixed on the appliance.

• Never place the appliance in humid or wet environment.

• Place the appliance in a way making the connections easily accessible, so that  they may be quickly disconnected if such a need arises.

• The appliance should be placed on surfaces that are:
  – even, with sufficient bearing capacity, resistant to water, dry and resistant to high temperatures;
  – sufficiently large, and thus enabling usage of the appliance with no problems;
  – easily accessible;
  – well ventilated.

• Maintain sufficient clearance from table edges. The appliance might turn over and fall down.

• Do not place the appliance under kitchen cupboards. Escaping steam might damage them.

• Furniture surfaces may contain materials, which may damage or melt the appliance’s feet. If needed, place the appliance on a suitable pad.

• Make sure to keep proper clearance at all sides (at least 10 cm at both sides and 30 cm from the top).

Power supply connection

• Verify if technical data of the appliance (see rating plate) correspond with the local electric power grid specification.
• Connect the appliance to a single, properly grounded mains socket with protective contact. Do not connect the appliance to a multi-socket.
• The power cord should be laid in a way preventing anyone from threading on it or tripping against it.
• Do not use the appliance with an external timer or remote control.

5.2 Operation
Before First Use

1. Clean the appliance thoroughly before use, following the instructions in section ‘Cleaning and Descaling’.
2. Before drinking the first tea or hot instant beverages perform trial run to remove all post-manufacturing residues:
   – fill the water tank with fresh potable water, up to the max mark’,
   – boil water. Follow indications in section ‘Starting the Appliance’,
   – pour out the water,
   – repeat the process 2–3 times.

Turning the appliance ON/OFF
The device is turned ON/OFF by turning the temperature regulator.

1. For normal operation, set the temperature regulator to the level or .
   On the setting the   water is heated to boiling point as quickly as possible.

2. For the interval boiling, turn the temperature regulator back until the operation indicator light on the base of the appliance goes out.
   The device maintains the water temperature at approx. 95 °C – 100 °C.

3. Set the temperature control to position to turn off the device.

Water Heating
ATTENTION!
Make sure the temperature control is fully turned counterclockwise and in position .

1. Now fill the water tank with the required amount of fresh water (only up to the max. fill mark).
   WARNING! Risk of scalding!
   Overfilling may lead to hot water leaks and scalding!
   Observe the maximum filling volume!
   HINT!
   To reduce heating time and save energy, the tank may be filled with hot water. When using cold water, the water heating phase takes longer

2. Place the lid on the water tank.

3. Place the teapot on the lid.

4. Now, plug the appliance into a suitable single socket.

5. Rotate the temperature regulator clockwise to the selected temperature setting.

The following water temperature setting options are available: Boiling / interval boiling (BOIL) / hot (HOT) / warm (WARM). Follow the instructions in the section ‘ Temperature Control’.
During heating up the operation indicator light is on.
Water Boiling

1. To boil water, turn the temperature control clockwise all the way to the position .
   The operation indicator will light up. Indicates that the device is heating.
   After a few minutes the water boils. This can be seen in the emerging steam.

ATTENTION!
Leaving the temperature regulator in this position will cause the water to boil continuously and will evaporate completely over time.
HOT STEAM! Risk of scalding!
The released hot steam may cause burns of hands, arms, and face.
Never remove the lid from the samovar while boiling water.
Interval boiling

1. To avoid uninterrupted boiling, turn the temperature regulator back until the operation indicator light on the base of the appliance goes out. The device is thus switched to the interval boiling.
   When the temperature of the water in the tank sinks, the operation indicator turns on and the water is reheated. This is how the thermostat regulates the energy supply according to demand, thus saving a lot of energy.

Topping up water
HOT STEAM! Risk of scalding!
When pouring water into the hot water tank, steam may come out and scald your hands, arm and face!
Carefully remove the lid from the water tank.
Leave the appliance to cool off for a couple of minutes.

1. Turn the temperature controller knob (3) anti-clockwise to its position .
2. Wait until the appliance cools down.
3. Fill the water tank with the required amount of fresh drinking water, not exceeding the max mark.

Dispensing Tap Operation
Impulse work

1. Push down the dispensing tap lever. The dispensing tap opens.
2. To close the dispensing tap again, release the lever

Continuous operation

1. Tilt the dispensing tap lever all the way back. It will lock in this position.
   The dispensing tap opens.

2. To close the dispensing tap again, tilt the lever forward.

Tea Preparation
Teas may vary. Strictly speaking, tea is just an aqueous infusion of the Camellia sinensis tea plant. This infusion can be black or green tea. A distinction should be made between “tea-like” products, the so-called herbal and fruit teas.
Brewing tea is also not the same as making tea. To obtain a valuable product and taste, tea is poured with water of different temperature and brewed through various periods of time. For example, green tea is preferably prepared using hot water at 85°C. In any case, follow the preparation instructions on the packaging.
Black tea

1. Put the enclosed tea strainer into the teapot.

2. Put some tea leaves into the tea strainer (approx. 1 teaspoon per cup) or put the tea bag directly into the teapot (approx. 1 tea bag per approx. 1–2 cups).

3. Put the lid on the water tank and put the teapot on it. In this way, the teapot will heat up at the same time.
   WARNING! Risk of scalding!
   Place the teapot on the lid in such a way that the escaping steam does not hit the handle of the teapot, so that it does not become hot!

4. Boil water.

5. Remove the water tank lid.
   WARNING! Risk of scalding!
   Hot steam comes out! There may possibly be some condensation water dripping from the bottom of the teapot. Use dishcloths.

6. Then pour the tea with boiling water via the dispensing tap.

7. The teapot may hold maximum of 1 litres of water.

8. The more the tea leaves or tea bags, and the less the water is poured into the teapot, the stronger will be the tea essence (tea connoisseurs like to infuse exactly 2.86 g of tea per cup). It is recommended to use more tea to have a real tea essence brewed in the teapot.
   HINT!
   The strength of the tea essence may be adjusted according to your preferences. Observe the brewing time indicated on the tea packaging, as it differs for each type of tea.

9. Place the teapot with the tea essence back onto the water tank. The steam in the water tank keeps the tea in the teapot in ideal temperature for the tea to infuse.

10. After the desired brewing time, remove the tea strainer (tea bag) from the teapot.

11. Then pour the resulting tea essence from the teapot into the cup (in any amount) and finally top up the cup with water from the water tank. This way you may differentiate the strength and taste of tea.

12. The teapot can be left on the water tank when the appliance is working, so that you can refill hot tea at any time.

13. In order for the water to stay hot, but not boil constantly, the temperature control knob should be turned slightly higher than the position (but do not turn all the way).

The operation light turns on and off cyclically.
Only use the maximum setting until the water boils for the first time.
Green tea
Green tea can also be prepared in the samovar. In principle, green tea should not be poured with boiling water, because then it may have a slightly bitter taste. The ideal water temperature is approx. 50°C – 70°C. Most green teas develop their optimum flavour at approx. 70°C. The better quality of the green tea, the lower the optimum water temperature. High-quality teas are brewed in water at 50 °C – 60 °C.
Normal green teas take about 1 – 3 minutes to infuse, while high-quality green teas take only about 1 – 1½ minutes to infuse. In the case of tea bags, the dosage should correspond to the manufacturer’s data.
As a rule, use less green tea leaves than in the case of black tea. Ok. Use approx.
1 g per 100 ml of water or 1 flat teaspoon per 200 ml of water. The strength of the essence can be determined accordingly by yourself.

1. Boil water in the water tank.
2. Then pour some hot water into the cups (as a result of its location on the water tank, the teapot is already heated during the boiling process).
3. Turn the temperature regulator back to position (depending on the type of tea).
4. Allow the water to cool slightly (approx. 5 – 6 minutes).
5.  Now pour the tea with hot water from the water tank.
6. Place the teapot on the water tank as described earlier to keep the tea hot.
7. Follow the directions for preparing black tea.

Herbal tea
ATTENTION!
Herbal, fruit, rooibos and spicy teas should be poured with boiling water only and brewed for at least 5–10 minutes. This is the only way to obtain a safe food product.
In the case of herbal teas – both loose and in bags – it is important to always pour boiling water over them and observe the given brewing time. In rare cases there may be germs in herbal mixtures, such as salmonella, which are killed by heating.
When prepared improperly, they may pose threat to health, especially when it comes to teas for children.
Herbal tea should in no case be prepared using only warm water, so that, for example, it is ready to drink faster. If the herbal tea in the unfavourable case contains germs, this can be a health hazard, especially for infants, small children and the sick. Similarly, brewed herbal tea should not be left for several hours. Boiling water kills germs, but not the spores found in herbal tea. They can germinate in warm water.
Hot Instant Beverages
In order to prepare hot instant beverages, e.g. instant coffee, pour the required  amount into a cup and pour hot water from samovar (section ‘Boiling water’,’Dispensing Tap Operation’).

Cleaning and Descaling

6.1 Safety Instructions for Cleaning

• Before cleaning, disconnect the appliance from the power supply.
• Leave the appliance to cool down completely.
• Make sure water does not enter the appliance. Do not immerse the appliance in water or other liquids during cleaning. Do not clean the appliance with a pressurized water jet.
• Do not use any sharp or pointed, nor metal implements (knife, fork, etc.). Sharp or pointed implements may damage the appliance, and when in contact with live parts, they may cause electric shock.
• For cleaning, do not use any scouring agents that contain solvents nor corrosive cleaning agents. They may damage the surface.

6.2 Cleaning
DANGER!
Water may enter the appliance and cause injury by electric shock.
Never clean the samovar base under running water.
ATTENTION!
Health hazard due to the development of germs!
Disinfect the water tank of the samovar in regular time intervals.

1. Clean the appliance regularly after end of each working day, or more frequently if needed.
2. Empty the appliance after each use.
3. Rinse the water tank thoroughly with clean water.
4. Clean the samovar from the outside with soft, damp cloth and to end with, dry the appliance thoroughly.
5. Clean the cover, teapot with tea strainer and the lid thoroughly with warm water and mild cleaning agent. Rinse in fresh water.
6. To end with, dry all washed elements and surfaces thoroughly. HINT!

The lid, teapot with lid and tea strainer are all dishwasher safe!
6.3 Descaling
ATTENTION!
The warranty claims will not be accepted when the appliance is not periodically descaled, as described in the instruction manual. Such claims are not covered by the warranty!
Descale the appliance regularly.
NOTE!
To reduce limescale deposits, it is recommended to use filtered water!

1. Depending on the intensity of use and the water quality, the water tank should be descaled every 1–2 weeks.
2. Perform the following steps:
   – Fill the water tank with approx. 500 ml of fresh potable water.
   – Add vinegar or 1 package (15 g) of Bartscher B15-30 descaler (art. no.

190065. to the water. Observe the indications on the packaging,
        – Boil the prepared solution.
        – Pour part of the solution through the drain tap to remove limescale deposits in the drain tap.
        – Boil the descaling solution at least 1–2 times more.
        – Leave the appliance to cool down for some time.
        – Remove the descaling solution after the procedure is finished.
        – Rinse the water tank thoroughly and multiple times with clean water.
        – Drain part of the water through the drain tap.

3. If the limescale is deposited also in the tea jug, descale it with the water and vinegar solution.

Possible Malfunctions

The table below contains descriptions of possible causes and solutions to malfunctions or errors during operation of the appliance. When malfunction cannot be removed, contact the technical service.
In such a case, provide article number, model name and serial number. These data may be found in the rating plate.

Connect the plug.

Disposal

Electrical Appliance
**** Electric appliances are marked with this symbol. Electrical appliances must be disposed of and recycled in a correct and environmentally friendly manner. You must not dispose of electric appliances with household waste. Disconnect the appliance from the power supply and remove power cord from the appliance.
Electrical appliances should be returned to designated collection points.
