Frequently Asked Questions
Where should I place my Bird Box Camera?
- Different nest boxes will attract different birds depending on the size of the entrance hole and where the box is situated. Check which birds will be suited to your nest box and position the box accordingly.
- You should position the box in a quiet place in the garden, amongst other plants or trees, ensuring that birds have a clear flight path to the nest box.
- Make sure enough natural light is allowed through to the window panels to ensure you receive colour images. We recommend you face the box between north and east to avoid direct sunlight and strong winds. If possible, tilt the box slightly forward to protect the box from driving rain.
When is the best time to hang my Bird Box?
Gorden birds start breeding around mid-February, so you should aim to have
your bird box in place by the end of February or the beginning of Morch.
However, we have known bird boxes put up as late as April to have success.
The camera and solar panel batteries have run down, what shall I do?
If you spend a lot of time watching your Bird Box Camero, the battery from the
camera can run down. If this happens, simply disconnect the cable between the
camera and solar panel and bring the solar panel into your home to connect it
lo the mains with the Micro USB cable provided. A full charge can take up to
12 hours.
What is the range of the Wi-Fi signal for the bird box camera?
The range is approximately 15-20m depending on the environment and range of
your router.
How do I clean my Bird Box?
- Most nests are known to harbour fleas and various other parasites, which can go on to infest newly hatched or young birds the following year. Old, disused nests should be removed from Bird Boxes from August onwards (or only once you are 100% certain the birds have stopped using the nest).
- Remove your Bird Box Camera from the Bird Box before removing any nesting materials, then clean the Bird Box out with boiling water to kill any remaining parasites. Ensure the Bird Box is thoroughly dry before reinstalling the Bird Box Camera or replacing the front panel. Never/use insecticides or flea powders in a Bird Box.
