LOCK / UNLOCK

Use

General points

This connector/strap has been designed to be used with personal protective equipment to protect against falls from a height in accordance with currently applicable standards. This equipment is for the use of one person only. Make sure that the parts of the belaying system are compatible with each other and that none of the parts in the belaying system affect the operation and safety functions of any other part. The connector and strap must be able to operate freely when in use without being obstructed by another belay or natural elements. It is impossible to anticipate every possible inappropriate use of this equipment, and it should only be used by those with suitable experience and training. The EU declaration of compliance for your product is accessible on the connector/quickdraw strap page on the support.decathlon.fr/languages website.

The connector

The connector must only be loaded along its major axis. If necessary, the gate should be locked in the closed position and verified prior to loading. The connector must not be loaded along its gate and must not be loaded beyond its rated limits or used for any other purpose than that for which it is designed. The use of wide straps is prohibited as it reduces the connector’s performance.

Connectors made from aluminium are not recommended for use in saline environments. Important note: Friction from a load-bearing carabiner against a metal cable will damage the carabiner body significantly and quickly. This means reduced strength. Do not use our carabiners for this type of activity. (eg: clipping to a metal zip-line wire).

The quickdraw strap

The quickdraw strap is designed to provide a soft connection between two carabiners on either end of the strap. The quickdraw strap must not come into contact with sharp edges. Contact with sharp edges may lead to wear and tear, and even the sudden rupture of the strap. The quickdraw strap resistance is reduced if damp, wet, frozen or contains knots. The melting temperature of strap “3” is 140°C. The friction coefficient of strap “3” is low.

Warning: training required

Only those who are trained for activities at height, or under direct and ongoing visual supervision by someone trained for activities at height are authorized to use this equipment. It is your responsibility to get this instruction. If you have not had specific training relative to operations at height, do not use this equipment. A lack of knowledge and/or a poor application of these techniques may result in serious injuries or even death.

Checks and maintenance

Before and after use, check that your carabiner is in good working order:

  • check that the gate and its locking system are working properly: the gate must close fully regardless of the position from which one releases it,
  • the automatic locking device must operate in the same way, and must not prevent the gate from opening,
  • check that screwgate closure systems open and close completely and smoothly,
  • check the rivets,
  • check that there is no rust, deterioration, visible wear or cracks on any of the metal parts,
  • check that markings are legible.

The quickdraw strap must also be checked before and after each use:

  • check that there are no cuts or signs of wear and tear on the quickdraw strap caused by friction or burns,
  • check that the stitching is in good condition and, in particular, that the thread is not damaged.

If the product has a defect, destroy it to ensure that it is not used. Regular and thorough inspection must be performed by a skilled and trained person (at least once per year).

It is possible to lightly lubricate the gate with a WD40® type product ensuring that it does not come into contact with the fabric (quick-draw strap). A dry graphite-type lubricant also gives excellent results. Wipe off any excess product to avoid clogging with dirt. In case of contact with fabric parts, clean in line with the recommendations given in the «Cleaning and Storage» section. Any repair or modification of the product is prohibited. The safety of the user depends on maintaining the product’s effectiveness and strength.

Lifespan

The maximum life span of Simond products, beginning from the date of manufacture indicated on the product, is as follows:

  • 10 years for fabric and plastic products. This duration is defined from the product’s date of manufacture, which is present on the label. It is formed of the year (4 numbers) and month (2 numbers) of manufacture.
  • life, for the connectors

The genuine life span of your Simond product depends on the frequency and usage as well as storage methods specific to each user.

The life span may be reduced to a single use if the product is subject to a major fall, intensive use involving abrasions, the product being exposed to dangerous chemical products or extreme temperatures, etc. In this case, dispose of the product as soon as possible. Your quickdraw strap can age. Its strength reduces over time, remember to replace it regularly. If you have any queries on the status of the product, allow a skilled and trained person to check it or destroy it.

Warranty

2-year warranty

  • As of the purchase date, SIMOND connectors and quickdraw straps are guaranteed for 2 years against manufacturing defects.
  • Normal wear and tear as well as any damage resulting from improper use or modification of the product are not covered by the warranty.

Cleaning and storage

Connectors and quickdraw straps must be rinsed with clean water and dried in shaded areas away from a heat source. Store in a dry, fresh and ventilated place away from direct sunlight. Avoid all contact with chemical products (acid, bleach, oil, petrol, diesel, solvents…). Where there has been contact with seawater or the marine environment, rinse and dry the quickdraw straps, and rinse, dry and lubricate the connectors. The original packaging must be used during transportation. Warning: do not expose your quickdraw strap to temperatures below -40°C (-40°F) or above 80° C (176°F). Never, for example, leave your product in a car under direct sunlight.
