DANGER
The electrical shock caused by touching live components An electrical shock results in serious injury or death.
- Before opening the device, disconnect it from the power source.
- Only perform installation work on devices that are disconnected from the power source.
NOTICE
Electrostatically endangered structural components
- Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) can cause damage to electronic components. A damaged component may not always malfunction immediately but may take some time to do so.
- Make sure to take precautions for ESD protection before removing hazardous components from their packaging and working in the electronic area:
- Ground yourself before touching electronic components (ESD clothing, wristband, shoes, etc.).
- Only work on electronic components at suitable ESD workplaces (EPA) with suitable ESD tools (antistatic mat, conductive screwdrivers, etc.).
- When transporting electronic components outside the EPA, only use suitable ESD packaging.
- Do not remove electronic components from their packaging when they are outside the EPA.
Installation
INFORMATION
- It is important to follow the instructions in this manual before starting work.
- The illustrations shown are examples and may differ from the actual product (e.g. positions of the components).
Opening the terminal
- Disconnect the device from the power source.
- Loosen the screws on the back of the terminal.
NOTICE: Make sure that you do not damage any cables (e.g. by tearing them
off or pinching them).
Carefully open both halves of the terminal.
Overview of the circuit board
The circuit board of certain display devices offers several slots for KERN
accessories, which allow you to extend the range of functions of your device
if necessary. Information on this can be found on our homepage: www.kern-
sohn.com
- The illustration above shows examples of the various slots. There are three slot sizes for optional modules: S, M, L. These have a certain number of pins.
- The correct position for your module is determined by the size and number of pins (e.g. size L, 6 pins), which is described in the respective installation steps.
- If you have several identical slots on the board, it does not matter which slot you select from these. The device automatically recognizes which module it is.
Installing the Memory Module
- Open the terminal (see Chapter 3.1).
- Remove the memory module from the packaging.
- Plug the module into a size S, 6-pin slot.
- The module has been installed.
Installing the Real Time Clock
- Open the terminal (see Chapter 3.1).
- Remove the Real Time Clock from the packaging.
- Plug the Real Time Clock into a size S, 5-pin slot.
- The Real Time Clock has been installed.
3.5 Closing the terminal
- Check the memory module and real-time clock for a tight fit.
NOTICE
- Make sure that you do not damage any cables (e.g. by tearing them off or pinching them).
- Make sure that any existing seals are in their intended place. Carefully close both halves of the terminal.
Close the terminal by screwing it together.
Description of the components
The Alibi memory module YMM-06 consists of the memory YMM-04 and the real-time
clock YMM-05. Only by combining the memory and the real time clock all the
functions of the Alibi memory can be accessed.
General information on the Alibi memory option
-
For the transmission of weighing data provided by a verified scale via an interface, KERN offers the alibi memory option YMM-06
-
This is a factory option, which is installed and preconfigured by KERN, when a product containing this optional feature is purchased.
-
The Alibi memory offers the possibility to store up to 250.000 weighing results, when the memory is exhausted, already used IDs are overwritten (starting with the first ID).
-
By pressing the Print key or by KCP remote control command “S” or “MEMPRT” the storage process can be performed.
-
The weight value (N, G, T), date and time and a unique alibi ID are stored.
-
When using a print option, the unique alibi ID is also printed for identification purposes as well.
-
The stored data can be retrieved via the KCP command
“MEMQID”. This can be used to query a specific single ID or a series of IDs. -
Example:
- MEMQID 15 → The data record which is stored under ID 15 is returned.
- MEMQID 15 20 → All data sets, which are stored from ID 15 to ID 20, are returned.
Protection of stored legally relevant data and data loss prevention measures
- Protection of stored legally relevant data:
- After a record is stored, it will be read back immediately and be verified byte by byte. If an error is found that record will be marked as an invalid record. If no error, then the record can be printed if needed.
- There is checksum protection stored in every record.
- All information on a printout is read from the memory with checksum verification, instead of direct from buffer.
- Data loss prevention measures:
- The memory is write-disabled upon power-up.
- A write-enable procedure is performed before writing a record to the memory.
- After a record is stored, a write disable procedure will be performed immediately (before verification).
- The memory has a data retention period longer than 20 years.
Troubleshooting
INFORMATION
- To open a device or to access the service menu, the seal and thus the calibration must be broken. Please note that this will result in recalibration, otherwise the product may no longer be used in the legal-for-trade area.
- In case of doubt, please contact your service partner or your local calibration authority first.
Memory-Module
Error | Possible cause/troubleshooting |
---|---|
No values with unique IDs are stored or printed | Initialize memory in the |
service menu (following the scales service manual)
The unique ID does not increment, and no values are stored or printed|
Initialize memory in the menu (following the scales service manual)
Despite initialization, no unique ID is stored| If the memory module is
defective, contact the service partner
Real-Time Clock
Error | Possible cause/troubleshooting |
---|---|
The time and date are stored or printed incorrectly | Check the time and date |
in the menu (following the scales service manual)
The time and date are reset after disconnecting from the power supply| Replace
the button battery on of the real-time clock
Despite the new battery date and time being reset when removing the power
supply| Real-time clock is defective, contact the service partner
