Vallox Capto Cooker Hood

The Vallox Capto cooker hood is a high-quality hood designed to effectively remove cooking odors and smoke from your kitchen. Vallox Delico Cooker Hood

Product Usage Instructions

Identifying the Cooker Hood:

To identify your cooker hood model, locate the type plate behind the grease filter at the rear of the hood. The type plate will display the specific model name and information. Refer to the user manual for the correct software version associated with your model.

Front Panel

The front panel of the cooker hood contains various buttons and signal lights for control and indication:

  • Damper button : Press this button to open or close the damper. A blue light indicates that the damper is open, while no light indicates that the damper is closed.
  • Fan speed button : Use this button to adjust the fan speed. The speed changes in the order of 1 (Away), 2 (At home), 3 (Boost). Cooker fans may have additional modes included.
  • Selection button : This button is hidden and located about 2 cm from the light switch. It is used for specific functions depending on the model.
  • Light button : Press this button to switch the cooker hood light on or off. To dim the light, press and hold the button for a longer duration.
  • Signal lights : The damper signal light indicates the status of the damper, while the alarm/setting mode signal light and fan speed signal lights indicate different profiles and settings.

Basic Use

Follow these steps for basic usage of your cooker hood:

  1. Opening the damper: Press the damper button to open the damper. The signal light will turn on. By default, the damper will close automatically after an hour. To close the damper sooner, press the damper button again and the signal light will turn off. Note that cooker fans (LTC) do not have a damper button as the damper opens automatically when the fan is switched on and closes when the fan is switched off.
  2. Adjusting the fan speed: Use the fan speed button to adjust the fan speed. The speed changes in the order of 1 (Away), 2 (At home), 3 (Boost), and 0 (no signal light). Cooker fans may have additional modes. Press the button repeatedly to cycle through the different speeds.
  3. Automated boost: The PTC and PTD hoods and TTC fans feature an automated boost function. When the hood damper is opened, the fan speed is automatically switched to 3 (boost). After closing the damper, either with the timer or button, the previous profile is restored.
  4. Light: Press the light button to switch on the cooker hood light. Press the button again to switch off the light. If you want to dim the light, press and hold the button for a longer duration. The longer you press, the dimmer the light willbecome.

HOW TO IDENTIFY THE COOKER HOOD

  • Cooker hoods and fans are identified by the type plate. The type plate is located behind the grease filter at the rear of the hood. The type plate pictured is that of the Vallox Capto PTC EC cooker hood.

The validity period of the software version is shown in the above table. This manual concerns software versions V 1.12.34, V 1.14.35 and V 1.16.36. The manufacturing date is indicated on the type plate shown in the photograph (Mfg. Date) 13.03.2018.

FRONT PANEL

BASIC USE

NOTE:  The functions of the Vallox Captura and Vallox Delico K hoods are similar to those of the Vallox Capto PTC EC and Vallox Delico PTD EC hoods.

Opening the damper

  • The damper is opened by pressing the damper button (signal light goes on). According to the factory setting, the damper closes after an hour. You can close the damper sooner by pressing the damper button again
    (the signal light goes off). Cooker fans (LTC) do not have a damper button as the damper opens automatically when the fan is switched on and closes when the fan is switched off.

Adjusting the fan speed

  • The fan speed can be adjusted by pressing the fan speed button. The speed changes in the following order: 1 (Away), 2 (At home), 3 (Boost), 0 (no signal light), 1 (Away), etc. The ‘0’ mode is included as a factory setting only in cooker fans.

Automated boost

  • The PTC and PTD hoods and TTC fans feature an automated boost. If the hood damper is opened, the fan speed is automatically switched to 3 (boost). After the damper is closed with the timer or button, the previous profile is restored.

Light

  • Press the light button to switch on the cooker hood light. Press the light button again to switch off the light. If you want to dim the light, press the light button longer when switching it on. The longer the light button is pressed, the dimmer the light.

Guard function and setoff

  • Capto and Delico cooker hoods (not KTC and KTD) are equipped with a guard function that monitors the temperature in the lower part of the hood. The guard function is activated if the temperature measured increases by more than 8°C/min. or if the temperature rises above 60°C. In this case, all the signal lights and the light of the cooker hood start flashing at a high frequency (90 1/min), the damper closes, the fan goes off, and the ends of the guard close. The guard function contact data (not PTC AC and PTD AC) can beused for purposes such as triggering an alarm to house automation, cutting the power supply to the cooker, or connecting a buzzer. The alarm can be set off by pressing any button on the hood.

Alarms

If the PTC EC or PTD EC hood is used to control the Vallox MC/MV ventilation unit, the maintenance reminder/error data can be connected to the cooker hood. In this case, the short circuit link between the M ALARM connectors is disconnected and the ventilation unit error data is connected in its place. If the ventilation unit’s maintenance reminder is activated or a malfunction occurs, the cooker hood alarm signal light flashes steadily (_**…).

  • After a power cut, the hood damper opens and closes. The damper resumes the position before the power cut. If the damper is malfunctioning, the alarm signal light starts blinking in cycles of three flashes (_******…).
  • The fan rotation speed data (tacho data) of the cooker and house extraction fans (LTC and TTC) is monitored. This function can be activated for PCT EC and PTD EC hoods. If the fan does not start or stop unnecessarily, the alarm signal light blinks in cycles of two flashes (_****…).
  • To set the fan rotation speed monitoring function for PTC EC and PTD EC hoods, close the damper, turn off the light and set the fan speed to 2 (At home). Then press the selection button down and then the fan speed button and keep both buttons pressed down for about three seconds, until the signal lights start flashing at a high frequency, indicating that the monitoring of the fan rotation speed data was saved. The monitoring of the fan rotation speed data can be switched off
    by repeating the above steps. For PTC EC and PTD EC hoods, monitoring is off as a factory setting. The monitoring can be activated if the PTC EC or PTD EC hood is used to control the roof fan or other fan for which rotation speed data is available.

Functioning of cooker hoods after a power cut

  • The cooker fan (LTC) damper closes and the fan is in the ‘0’ mode when power is restored.
    Cooker hoods (KTC A, KTC EA, PTC EC, PTC AC, KTD A, PTD AC ja PTD EC) and the house extraction fan
    (TTC) are restored to the state preceding the power cut (damper position and fan speed).

  • NOTE! It takes 10 seconds to save the change of damper position and fan speed in the memory. Therefore, when testing the above function, you should wait at least 10 seconds before switching the hood off.

CHANGING FACTORY SETTINGS

The basic rule for adjusting settings: ‘Only what you want to adjust is on.’ For instance, if you want to adjust the fan speed to 2 (At home), you close the damper, switch off the light and set the fan speed to 2.

Adjusting the time for which the damper remains open

  • Open the damper, switch off the light, and set the fan speed to 1 (Away).
  • Press the selection button for about 10 seconds until the setting mode signal light flashes. The hood is now in the setting mode and the signal light is blinking in cycles of two flashes (_****…) = open for 60 minutes.
  • Press the damper button once; the signal light is now blinking in cycles of three flashes (_******…) = open for 75 minutes.
  • Press the damper button once; the signal light is now blinking in cycles of four flashes (_********…) = open for 90 minutes.
  • Press the damper button once; the signal light is now blinking in cycles of five flashes (_**********…) = open for 105 minutes.
  • Press the damper button once; the signal light is now blinking in cycles of six flashes (******_**…) = open for 120 minutes.
  • Press the damper button once; the signal light is now blinking in cycles of seven flashes (**_ ********…) = remains open.
  • Press the damper button once; the signal light is now blinking in cycles of one flash (_**…) = open for 45 minutes.
  • Press the damper button once; the signal light is now blinking in cycles of two flashes (_****…) = open for 60 minutes, etc.
  • When a suitable time for the damper being open is found, save it by pressing the selection button for a long time, until the signal lights flash at a high frequency, indicating that the save is complete.
  • If the hood remains in the setting mode for more than five minutes and no buttons are pressed meanwhile, the hood exits the setting mode automatically without saving.

Adjusting the fan speed

PTC EC and PTD EC hoods as well as LTC and TTC fans have the following control voltages as factory settings:

  • 1 = 3.0 VDC
  • 2 = 6.0 VDC
  • 3 = 9.0 VDC (PTC EC, PTD EC)
  • 3. = 11.2 VDC (LTC, TTC)
  • If you want to measure the control voltage by using a general meter, there are probes for this purpose at the bottom of the filter enclosure (see above photograph).
  • If you want to change the control voltage, do as follows:
  • NOTE! Always set the fan speed to 2 (At home) first. Setting the At-home profile also changes the speeds of the Away and Boost profiles.
  • Close the damper, switch off the light, and set the fan speed to 2 (At home).
  • Press the selection button for about 10 seconds until the setting mode signal light flashes. The hood is now in the setting mode and the signal light is blinking in cycles of five flashes (_**********…) = 5 VDC control voltage.
  • Press the fan speed button once; the signal light flashes in cycles of five blinks + one quick blink (’_*****’*****’…) = 5.5 VDC control voltage).
  • Press the fan speed button; the signal light flashes in cycles of six blinks (******_**…) = 6.0 VDC control voltage.
  • Press the fan speed button once; the signal light flashes in cycles of six blinks + one quick blink ( ****’_**’…) = 6.5 VDC control voltage etc., until the maximum of 11.2 VDC is reached. After the next pressing of the fan speed button, the control voltage is 2.5 VDC and increases thereafter in steps of 0.5 VDC.
  • When a suitable speed for fan speed 2 (At home profile) has been found, save it by pressing the selection button for a long time, until the signal lights flash at a high frequency, indicating that the save is complete. After this, the speed of the Away profile is about 30% lower and the speed of the Boost profile is about 30% higher than the speed of the At Home profile. (max. 11.2 VDC
  • NOTE! Saving the fan speed of the at-home profile also always adjusts the fan speed of the Away and Boost profiles.
  • The speeds of the Away and Boost profiles can be adjusted individually. When adjusting the speeds of these profiles, you must have the profile/speed in question selected. The adjustment of these profiles does not change the speeds of the other profiles.
  • If the hood remains in the setting mode for more than five minutes and no buttons are pressed meanwhile, the hood exits the setting mode automatically without saving.

Adjusting the brightness of the lighting

According to the factory setting, the lamp always goes on at the brightest power. If a dimmed light is desirable when switched on, the setting can be adjusted.

  • Switch on the light, close the damper, and set the fan speed to 1 (Away).
  • Press the selection button for about 10 seconds until the setting mode signal light flashes. The hood is now in the setting mode and the signal light is blinking in cycles of four flashes (_********…) = the factory setting, i.e. the brightest light.
  • Press the light button once; the signal light is now blinking in cycles of one flash (_**…) = the dimmest light.
  • Press the light button once; the signal light is now blinking in cycles of two flashes (_****…) = the second dimmest light.
  • Press the light button once; the signal light is now blinking in cycles of three flashes (_******…) = the third dimmest light.
  • Press the light button once; the signal light is now blinking in cycles of four flashes (_********…) = the factory setting, i.e. the brightest light.
  • When a suitable brightness for the light has been found, save it by pressing the selection button for a long time, until the signal lights flash at a high frequency, indicating that the save is complete.
  • If the hood remains in the setting mode for more than five minutes and no buttons are pressed meanwhile, the hood exits the setting mode automatically without saving.

Lighting timeout

  • You can set a timeout for the light so that it is automatically switched off after an hour. To activate the light timeout, close the damper, switch off the light, and set the fan speed to 1 (Away). Then first press down the selection button and then the light button and keep both buttons pressed down for about three seconds, until the signal lights start flashing at a high frequency, indicating that the setting was saved. The light timeout can be deactivated by repeating the above procedure.

Post-operation

  • It is possible to set a 15-minute post-operation for
    all hoods and fans that feature the ‘0’ mode. Post-operation of fans can reduce condensing in the duct. To activate post-operation, close the damper, switch off the light, and set the fan speed to 3 (Boost). Then first press down the selection button and then the fan button and keep both buttons pressed down for about three seconds, until the signal lights start flashing at a high frequency, indicating that the setting was saved. Deactivate post- operation by repeating the above procedure. The signal light for speed 1 (Away) flashes to indicate post-operation.

Activation of automatic damper for  Vallox Capto PTC EC and PTC AC hoods

  • NOTE! If the hood is used for controlling ventilation in the home, the automatic damper must not be activated.
  • The damper can be programmed to work automatically when the hood is only used for removing cooking smells from the cooker. In this case, the damper opens automatically when the fan is switched on. If the damper is opened by using the button, the automatic boost sets the fan to speed 3 (Boost). The automatic damper can be programmed for all hoods and fans that have the activated ‘0’ mode.
  • To activate the automatic damper, switch off the light and open the damper, after which the automatic boost sets the fan speed to Boost. Then first press down the selection button and then the damper button and keep both buttons pressed down for about three seconds, until the signal lights start flashing at a high frequency, indicating that the mode was activated. Deactivate the automatic damper by repeating the above procedure.
  • NOTE! Closing the damper with the timer stops the fan. When necessary, the damper can be programmed to stay open until it is closed by using the button (see Adjusting the time for which the damper remains open, p. 4). If both the automatic damper and post-operation have been programmed in the hood, pressing the fan speed button will stop the fan first after 15 minutes. Closing the damper stops the fan immediately.

Activation of the cooker fan mode for  Vallox Delico PTD EC hoods

  • NOTE! If the hood is used for controlling ventilation in the home, the cooker fan mode must not be activated.
    The damper can be programmed to work automatically by activating the cooker fan mode when the hood is used only for removing cooking smells from the cooker. The cooker fan mode is activated by putting the hood in the setting mode first: switch off the light, close the damper, and press the selection button for 10 seconds. The cooker fan mode is then activated by pressing the damper button for 10 seconds; the damper signal light starts flashing --* (at a frequency of approximately 60 flashes/minute). Press the selection button for about three seconds to save the change; finally, the signal lights will flash at a high frequency.

  • Once the cooker fan mode is activated, the hood works as follows:

  • When the damper is closed, the fan being controlled is at a standstill. When the damper is opened for the first time, the fan starts at the Away mode speed (speed 1). After this, the fan will start at the speed it had before stopping. The damper is closed by using the damper button or timeout; this switches the fan off.

  • The damper can also be opened by pressing the fan speed button. When the fan speed button is pressed again, the fan speed switches to the next mode. The order of the ventilation modes is as follows: Zero, Away, At home, Boost, Zero, etc. (or 0, 1, 2, 3, 0…). When
    the fan is stopped by using the fan speed button, and the damper also closes.

  • The cooker fan mode is switched off by putting the hood to the setting mode first: switch off the light, close the damper, and press the selection button for 10 seconds. Press the damper button for 10 seconds; the damper signal light starts flashing --* (at a frequency of approximately 60 flashes/minute, in addition to the setting mode signal light).

  • Then press the damper button (briefly) a second time. The damper signal light stops flashing and the cooker fan mode is deactivated. The setting mode signal light continues to flash.

  • Press the selection button for three seconds; the signal lights will flash at a high frequency and the ventilation unit’s control mode (= not the cooker fan mode) is saved and the setting mode signal light will stop flashing.

  • If the adjustment of the setting is interrupted and the hood is left in the setting mode, the hood will return to the operating mode after five minutes without saving settings.
