Your Panasonic Vacuum Cleaner is made of fine quality material and superior
workmanship. It has many desirable features, such as a Variable Power Control
({MC-6230 only), Headlight, Automatic Brush Height Adjustment, Electronic
Power Indicator (MC-6230 only), Rug/Floor Selector, Bag Indicator, Full Bag
Alarm and others.
Your new Panasonic vacuum cleaner will work for you on carpets and floors, and
may be used with attachments for all other cleaning needs in your home. We
urge you to read these operating instructions carefully before you use this
vacuum cleaner, in order to obtain the full performance and satisfaction that
it can offer you.
IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
- Never let the vacuum cleaner pick up wet dirt, mud, live ashes or cigarette butts.
- Keep the vacuum cleaner away from heat sources (radiator, oven etc).
- Before using the vacuum cleaner, remove large or sharp objects from the floor. They may damage the cleaner and the dust bag.
- Change the dust bag before it is excessively filled in order to maintain best cleaning efficiency.
- Turn the vacuum cleaner off before unplugging from electrical outlet.
- Never leave the vacuum cleaner running or cord plugged in when unattended.
- Keep hands, feet, garments, and hair away from revolving agitator assembly.
- To clean, wipe the cleaner body with a clean damp cloth.
- Do not allow children to play with your vacuum cleaner.
- Never use the vacuum cleaner without dust bag. !t may damage the motor.

Before you plug in your Panasonic Vacuum Cleaner, make sure that the voltage
indicated on the rating plate located underneath the vacuum cleaner is the
same as your local supply.
WARNING: ELECTRIC SHOCK COULD OCCUR IF USED OUTDOORS OR ON WET SURFACES.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE/ HOW TO OPERATE CLEANER
HOW TO ATTACH HANDLE TO VACUUM CLEANER

After first removing the handle screw, insert handle into the hole on top of the vacuum cleaner.
Ensure that the switch on the handle is positioned to the front of the vacuum cleaner. -
Line up the small hole on the handle with the small hole on the vacuum cleaner and insert the screw. Be sure the screw is tightened securely.

Hold the power cord at the clip located on the upper Cord Storage Hook.
Always wrap excess cord around the cord storage hooks to prevent the cord from dragging and thus prevent interfering with your Cleaning. -
Turn the upper cord storage hook to the upright position and wind the power cord around the cord storage hooks when storing the vacuum cleaner.
HOW TO RELEASE POWER CORD

The upper cord storage hook has a quick-release action. To release the cord, rotate the hook downward and complete power cord will drop off the handle for immediate use.

Return the hook to the upright position before attempting to rewind the cord.
HOW TO CHANGE THE DUST BAG
Always operate the vacuum cleaner with a genuine Panasonic Type U dust bag
installed.
Panasonic dust bags may be ordered through any authorized Panasonic dealer.

Pull outward the knob located on the top of the dust cover and remove the cover

To remove the dust bag, grasp the extended portion of the bag holder, and simply pull it out. Remove the used bag from the bag holder.

Spread out the end of the new dust bag as shown by the arrows.

simply attach the new dust bag onto the bag holder.
Just in case, Eureka “Style S’’ might be used. -
Hook the two tabs provided on the bottom of the bag holder into the plastic piece attached to the inside surface of the dust compartment and fit the bag holder into place.

Re-insert the tab on the end of the dust cover into the groove on the dust compartment housing and press it into place, then fasten the dust cover tightly.
ON/OFF SWITCH
- To start the vacuum cleaner, slide the switch on the handle to the ON position or between LOW and HIGH (MC-6230 only).
- To stop the vacuum cleaner, slide the switch on the handle to the OFF position.
HANDLE ADJUSTMENTS
The handle of this vacuum cleaner can be set either of three positions —
Upright.
Middte or Low. To release the handle, step on the pedal at the left rear
corner Lf Pm of the vacuum cleaner.

Upright position Handle locks in this position for vacuum cleaner storage. The handle should always be in an upright position when cleaning tools are used.

Middle position. This position is for normal cleaning.
-
Low position This position is used for cleaning under furniture.
EDGE CLEANING FEATURE
The edge cleaning feature provides for improved cleaning of carpets near
wall and Stationary furniture.
RUG/FLOOR SELECTOR
This Rug/Floor Selector will provide you the con venience for cleaning both carpeted floor and bare floor. When cleaning carpeted floor, slide the selector to the RUG position. For cleaning bare floor, slide the selector to the FLOOR position.
BAG INDICATOR/FULL-BAG ALARM
The bag indicator located on the front of your vacuum cleaner (dust cover)
indicates when the dust bag should be changed. You should change the dust bag
when ‘Full’ is indicated in order to maintain the best cleaning efficiency.
The full bag alarm lets you know when the dust bag has to be changed by
sounding a whistle alarm. If desired, the full-bag alarm may be turned off
simply by moving the full-bag alarm knob to the ‘OFF position.
Note: If the bag indicator shows ’’Full’’ or the full-bag alarm sounds
while the dust bag is still empty, check to see if the nozzle hose is clogged.
SUCTION CONTROL (MC-6210/6215 only)
Suction Control locates on the front of your vacuum cleaner (dust cover).
To reduce the suction power for cleaning draperies, small rugs, rugs with low
pile and other delicate items, turn the suction contro knob to the “LOW”
position. Turn the suction control knob to the ’’HIGH” position for maximum
suction power.
Note: The Bag Indicator does not operate when the Suction Control is set
at “LOW” position. Be sure to select “HIGH” position for normal operation of
Bag Indicator.
SECONDARY FILTER
A secondary filter protects the motor from dirt.
Before installing a new dust bag, check the filter.
Accumulated dirt in the dust compartment will be collected on this filter and
may restrict motor performance. When the filter becomes dirty, remove it from
the bottom of the dust compartment and clean by rinsing in water. When dry,
install the filter back in place.
ELECTRONIC POWER INDICATOR (MC-6230)
This Panasonic Vacuum cleaner is equipped with a variable power control
which will allow you to select any cleaning power from Low to High. A series
of lights (LED) will indicate the actual cleaning power as the variable power
control is moved.
AUTOMATIC SELF ADJUSTING RUG NOZZLE
Your Panasonic Upright Vacuum Cleaner is designed with an Automatic Self
Adjusting Rug Nozzle. No manual adjustments are required. The height of the
rug nozzle is instantly and automatically adjusted to an carpet pile length.
This self adjusting feature allows the rug nozzle to float evenly over all
carpet pile surfaces.

1 How to connect the optional hose assembly to your vacuum cleaner.
To connect the accessory hose to your vacuum cleaner simply lift up the lid of
Cleaning Attachment Opening located on the back of your cleaner and insert the
hose end into the Cleaning Attachment Opening as illustrated. Be sure the hose
and is fitted snugly in the opening for proper operation.
2 How to connect the cleaning tools
Connect the Curved Wand to the Hose Assembly as illustrated. You can
connect any of the cleaning tools to the end of the metal extension wand(s) or
directly to the curved wand in the following manner. Push the cleaning tool
onto the extension wnad(s) or curved wand making sure the hole on the tool
aligns with the spring button on the curved wand or the extension wand(s) end.
To remove the cleaning tool from the extension wand(s) or curved wand, press
the spring button and pull off the tool.
HOW TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHT BULB, THE DRIVE BELT AND THE BRUSH ASSEMBLY
BEFORE REPLACING ANY PARTS DISCONNECT THE VACUUM CLEANER FROM THE
ELECTRICAL OUTLET.
To replace any of the following parts, place the handle in the low position.
Then turn the vacuum cleaner over exposing the underside. Loosen the lower
plate by pushing the two latches inward. Then remove the lower plate.

How to replace headlight bulb.
After removing the mounting screw and while noting the arrangement of the electrical wires, carefully lift out the entire headlight assembly.
Remove the bulb by pushing in lightly, while turning it counter-clockwise. To install a new bulb, push it lightly into the socket while turning clockwise. Use any standard bayonet base appliance bulb rated 110-120 V, 20 W. These bulbs are standard and may be obtained from most appliance repair shops.
Re-insert the complete headlight assembly back into the nozzle housing, making sure all the wires are properly arranged and not pinched.

How to replace the belt.
Turn the unit over and remove the lower plate as described in the preceding section. Lift up the rear belt cover and read the instructions of belt replacement written on it. Then confirm which belt is worn or broken. (You will see two belts installed in the housing.)
When flat belt (TYPE UB-3) is worn or broken re-move it from the motor shaft and the intermediate pulley. Then loop the new belt around the motor shaft and the intermediate pulley. Be sure to install a new flat belt (TYPE UB-3) into the guide indicated by arrow, turning the rug/floor selector to the floor position.
When round belt (TYPE UB-2) is worn or broken, remove flat belt (TYPE UB-3) first. Then remove round belt from the intermediate pulley and agitator assembly. Loop the new belt around the intermediate pulley and the agitator assembly. Then, reinstall a flat belt (TYPE UB-3) into place following the steps in reverse.
Re- insert the agitator assembly, making sure by your hands that the belts are not twisted and all rotating parts move smoothly. Be sure that the agitator assembly is in place and the rear belt cover is closed before fastening the lower plate.
Hook the front end of lower plate to the two ribs at the front end of the housing.
Press the lower plate into place, then fasten it by pushing the two latches outward.

How to replace Agitator brushes
Brushes should be replaced when they are worn or when the bristle does not touch a card that is held across the nozzle. You should replace all four brushes at the same time in order to maintain good cleaning efficiency.
Remove E-clip first from the agitator shaft by using a screw driver. Then remove the end cap at the right end by holding the agitator assembly.
Pull out the agitator shaft from the left end.
Note: Take care not to deform the agitator shaft.
Pull or pry out the agitator pulley and agitator holder.
Now the brushes can be removed easily.
After inserting the new brushes, re-install the agitator pulley and agitator holder, making sure they are completely and firmly inserted. Re-install other parts following the steps as in reverse.
Be sure the End Caps and Filters are in place before fitting the E-clip back into place. Reinstall the agitator assembly as described in preceding section.

HOW TO CLEAN THE NOZZLE HOSE
- Remove the nozzle hose from the housing. Replace the paper bag with a new one. Then switch the vacuum cleaner on with repeated lifting up and closing action of the cleaning attachment opening lid until the clog in the nozzle hose is sucked into the dust bag.
- Then install the nozzle hose to the housing. If nozzle pipe is clogged, it will be removed instantly when you switch it on.
