SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Scalding Risk: Water temperatures above 125°F can cause severe burns, resulting in severe injury or death. Scalding risk can be reduced at 120°-125°F, but even 120°F water can cause scalding injuries. Children, the disabled, and the elderly are at the highest risk of being scalded. Feel water before bathing or showering.
Your water heater thermostat (temperature control) temperatures should never be turned above 120°F without a properly installed, properly commissioned, and functioning Thermostatic Mixing Valve. If Tank Max is removed, decommissioned, or suspected of being faulty, immediately lower the water heater thermostat temperature to 120°F or lower in accordance with the water heater manufacturer’s instructions.

INSTALLATION GUIDELINES

Delivery Temperature: Each valve is factory set for 120°F outlet temperature with a 140°F hot water inlet temperature. To ensure delivery of the desired mixed water temperature at the outlet, the installer must adjust and verify the temperature at the outlet by carefully following installation instructions.
Flush the system before installation: All debris should be flushed from the plumbing system before installing Tank Max. Not flushing the system properly may cause system difficulties.

  • DO NOT subject the valve to heat during installation or damage may occur.
  • DO NOT install valves on steam-supplied systems.
  • DO NOT freeze the valve. If the valve is installed where freezing can occur, then suitable insulation must be provided to prevent damage to the valve.
  • DO NOT use excess thread sealant (liquid, tape, or any other form) as this may cause the valve to fail.

Failure to comply with all aspects of the installation instructions may result in unsafe performance.
All installations must comply with relevant state, provincial, and local codes and laws.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Apply sealing tape to the hot and cold water connection threads on the water heater. Attach the union fitting to the hot water outlet of the water heater.

  2. Attach the mixing valve to the NPSM Swivel end of the fitting as shown below.

  3. Connect the tee to the cold water inlet of the water heater.

  4. Apply sealing tape to the male threads of the mixing valve and tee. Check the installation orientation of both to ensure that the connection of the flexible hose can be allowed.

  5. Connect the flexible hose from the mixing valve to the tee as shown below.

  6. Connect the system’s cold water inlet supply hose to the tee and the hot water outlet supply hose to the mixing valve. Turn on the water and check for leaks.

TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT

  1. Turn the hot water on at one faucet.

  2. Remove the cap. You may need a flathead screwdriver to pry it off the valve.

  3. Place the cap triangle end on the brass triangle on the mixing valve.

  4. Turn the cap 1/4 turn counter-clockwise (to the left) to increase the water temperature to your house by 5º F. Turn the cap clockwise (to the right) to decrease the water temperature.

If your water heater is set to 140º or above, the mixing valve is factory pre- set to produce hot water at 120º F. The lowest setting for the valve is 100º F. The highest setting is the temperature at which your water heater is set.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If adjusting the temperature on the mixing valve doesn’t change your water temperature, remove the mixing valve from your water heater and clean the filter screens, one on the cold water inlet and one on the hot water inlet.
