Step 3: Mix Resin with Precision
Wave 1: -
Take 1 measuring cup and pour 90 ml of resin and 90 ml of hardener into the same cup.
-
Stir the resin and hardener together for a full three minutes. Stir slowly and gently to avoid creating bubbles, but ensure thorough mixing by scraping the bottom and sides.
-
Pour the contents of the first cup into a second, empty cup, and stir for another 1 minute to eliminate any unmixed pockets of resin or hardener.
-
Add gold specs and/or small flowers to the mixture.
-
Step 4: Pour First Layer of Resin
Pour the resin slowly into the mold, filling all areas with this first layer of resin. Scrape the sides and get as much resin out of your cups as possible. -
Step 5: Intermission 1: Let Dry for 30-60 mins
Allow the first layer of resin to dry for 30-60 minutes. -
Step 6: Design Tray
Gently place dried flowers and gold specs into the first layer of resin while wearing gloves. Remember to place the flowers upside down, as the bottom of the mold will be the top of your tray.
FAQ:
-
Q: What safety precautions should I take when working with resin?

STEP 1: ACTIVATE CREATIVITY
Turn on your favorite playlist or podcast, grab a glass of wine or a cup of tea – do whatever you do that brings you that magical creative flow.
Go ahead, lose your head in the clouds. -
STEP 2: PREP YOUR SPACE
Grab a baking sheet or other hard, transportable surface (i.e. sheet of cardboard) that you don’t mind getting dirty, and place your silicone tray mold on top of it. This will protect your table/counter from resin drips, as well as provide a steady surface if you need to move the molds. Place everything that came in your resin kit nearby. Put your gloves on to protect your hands from the resin chemicals, crack a window for ventilation if you can, and put your mask on. But do keep in mind that the ideal room temperature for resin is 70°. If colder, your resin will take longer to dry/harden so you’ll need to wait a full 60 minutes in step #4. Let’s get started! -
STEP 3: MIX RESIN WITH PRECISION
We are going to pour our resin in two waves. The most important aspect of resin is ensuring you’ve mixed properly. You must have equal amounts of resin & hardener, and you must ensure they are mixed thoroughly.
WAVE 1: -
Take 1 measuring cup and pour 90 ml of resin and 90 ml of hardener into the same cup (photo #1). This will fill the deep sides of the funky-shaped tray as well as a layer across the flat, center surface.
-
Grab a stir stick, and stir the resin and hardener together for a full three minutes. Stir slowly and gently – if you go too fast, you will create bubbles. However, you also want to mix thoroughly, scraping the bottom and sides.
-
Pour the contents of the first cup into a second, empty cup, and stir for another 1 minute. This will ensure that there are no leftover, unmixed pockets of resin or hardener from the first cup.
-
Once you’ve stirred for 3 full minutes, you can add in some gold specs and/or small flowers (photo #2). Do not mix in the large flowers at this point, as they will break. Cont’d >>
-
STEP 4: POUR FIRST LAYER OF RESIN
Pour resin slowly into your mold, filling all areas with this first layer of resin] (photo #3). Be sure to scrape the sides and get as much resin out of your cups as possible. -
STEP 5 : INTERMISSION 1: LET DRY FOR 30-60 MINS Let resin dry for about 30-60 mins before beginning to design. This allows it to harden a bit & get sticky, which will help keep the flowers in place. If it’s below 70° in your room, wait a full 60 mins.
-
STEP 6: DESIGN TRAY
Put your lids back on your remaining resin and set aside for now. It’s time to design! This is the fun part. While wearing gloves, gently place your dried flowers and gold specs into your first layer of resin (photo #4). Keep in mind that you’ll want to place the flowers in upside down, as the bottom of the mold will end up being the top of your tray. -
STEP 7: INTERMISSION 2: LET DRY FOR 1 HOUR Let resin harden for 1 hour before pouring the second layer, giving the flowers time to harden and stick to the first layer. Note: You may notice that, as your resin hardens, the flowers/gold specs will start to drift towards the center of the mold. If your counter/table isn’t balanced, they may also drift to one side. If so, you can take a stir stick and gently drag the flowers back to the desired location.
-
STEP 8: MIX & POUR SECOND LAYER
WAVE 2:
Time to pour your second layer. Repeat step #3 in entirety; however, this second pour is going to be much smaller. This time, mix only 30 ml of resin and 30 ml of hardener. If you choose, now you can add the resin pigment color. Simply mix a scoop (about a half a teaspoon, photo #5) of the pigment into the resin and mix thoroughly. Add more to your liking. Pour the rest of your resin atop your florals & gold specs (photo #6), filling up the molds. Do not overfill – if you have too much resin mixed, you won’t be able to re-use, so
you can toss it out. If you don’t have enough, then you’ll need to mix more (but again, make sure you have equal parts resin and hardener, and follow all the same steps from step 3). -
STEP 9: INTERMISSION 3: LET DRY FOR 24 HOURS
Let your tray dry for a full 24 hours. You may want to place something over the molds while they dry (piece of cardboard, another baking sheet, paper plates) – to prevent dust or hair from falling into the resin. After 24 hours, carefully remove from molds.
