Job Title: Level 3 Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprentice
Reports to: Chief Instructor
Location: Skern Lodge, Watertown, Devon, EX39 1NG
Salary: In line with Government recommendation

Job Purpose
An apprenticeship at Skern Lodge can give the right individual invaluable knowledge, skills, behaviours (KSB’s) and qualifications to have a lifelong career in a diverse industry. Early on in your apprenticeship at Skern Lodge, you will be hands on supporting experienced colleagues on sessions, interacting with clients and building a solid base of skills to be able to lead sessions. Formal education provides learning to help your understanding of the KSB’s. This will be via 1-2-1 teaching, face-to-face delivery as a group, tutorials and e-learning. The role will be based on an average of 43 hours a week comprised of working days, evenings /nights and weekends. Time will be allocated for you to undertake the necessary formal learning throughout the year.
Key role responsibilities and account abilities
- Take ownership of learning and look for opportunities to enhance your experience.
- Following risk assessments, operating procedures and training given to adhere to best practice.
- Follow all IL policies and procedures.
- Take an active role in sessions with a view to leading them by yourself in the future.
- Maintain a professional relationship between client and instructor
Typical knowledge, skills and experience
- Be physically fit and able to fulfil the role.
- Have a keen interest in the outdoors and adventurous activities.
- Be 18 years old or above before the apprenticeship starts.
- Be comfortable talking to new people from various backgrounds.
- Be punctual, reliable and adaptable.
- Hold a pass in English and Maths or equivalent (functional skills)
