Job Title: Seasonal Outdoor Instructor/ Tutor

Reports to : Chief Instructor
Location : Skern Lodge, Watertown, Devon, EX39 1NG
Salary : Discussed at interview stage

Job Purpose

The position of season Outdoor Instructor/ Tutor is an important role as you are the first point of contact for visiting groups to deliver what they expect, enjoyable safe outdoor adventurous activities.
You will be required to lead activities with clients from a wide range of backgrounds on various outdoor equipment in multiple locations on site and in North Devon. This role includes other duties to support the client’s needs such as, evening and night duties as well as leading residential groups in a course director role. The role is an average of 43 hours a week and can include other work that supports the centres day to day running.

Key role responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Leading activities in a fun, safe and engaging way adapting your delivery to different client needs.
  • Following risk assessments, operating procedures and training given to adhere to best practice.
  • Ensure qualifications used for delivery are current and up to date.
  • Be comfortable working alone as well as part of a team where required.
  • Hold or work towards a first aid qualification and be comfortable administering first aid.
  • Follow all IL policies and procedures.

Typical knowledge, skills and experience

  • Be able to talk confidently in-front of groups of clients from various backgrounds and walks of life.
  • Take pride in appearance and representing the Skarn Lodge brand in a positive manner.
  • Physically be able to provide the support that clients need on sessions to keep them safe.
  • Be able to think on your feet, be adaptable and calm in a wide range of scenarios.
  • Have an interest in the outdoor industry and be a good role model for the outdoors.
  • Ideally have previous experience in the outdoor industry, and having qualifications linked to outdoor provision would be advantageous (RCI, PSL, D1+E, CPC, NVBLQ, CWI)
