• Intended Use
  The DLE HIU2 instant water heater set is designed for use with heat interface units. It is intended to provide hot water for various applications.

Installation and Commissioning

DANGER:
Before carrying out any installation, maintenance, cleaning, or repair work, ensure that the product is switched off and cannot be switched back on.

NOTICE:
The installation and commissioning of the product (DLE HIU2) should only be carried out by trained and manufacturer-authorized professionals. When installing and operating a circulation system, it is important to observe the recognized technical standards and hygiene regulations according to DVGW worksheet W551.

CAUTION: When replacing components, make sure to observe the correct installation positions and flow directions.

Intended use

• The product (Instant water heater set DLE HIU2) is not intended to be operated by people (including children) with physical, sensory or mental disabilities, nor by people with insufficient experience or previous knowledge.
• The Instant water heater set DLE HIU2 is used for electronic re-heating of drinking water in combination with a heat interface unit series HIU2, which is mounted in a one-piece combination cabinet. The heat output of the heat interface unit depends on the flow rate and the flow temperature of the heating water that previously flowed through the heat exchanger. If the heat output provided by the heat exchanger is not sufficient to heat the drinking water to the required temperature, the temperature is increased to the set value by the electric instantaneous water heater.

Foreseeable misuse
The following is considered to be foreseeable misuse:

• Operating the product (DLE HIU2) contrary to the specifications.
• Improper use of the product (DLE HIU2).
• Modifications to the product (DLE HIU2) that were not agreed with the manufacturer.
• Using replacement or worn parts not approved by the manufacturer.
• Operating the product (DLE HIU2) outdoors (parts and components are not UV resistant).

Responsibilities of the operator
The operator must ensure that:

• The product (DLE HIU2) is only used for its intended purpose.
• The product (DLE HIU2) is installed, operated and maintained according to the specifications in the Installation and Operating Manual.
• The product (DLE HIU2) is only operated according to local regulations and occupational health and safety regulations.
• All precautionary measures have been carried out to avoid dangers originating from the product (DLE HIU2).
• All precautionary measures for first aid treatment and firefighting have been carried out.
• Only authorized and trained users have access to the product (DLE HIU2) and operate it.
• Users have access to this Installation and Operating Manual at all times.

Groups of persons
Only qualified persons may operate the product (Instant water heater set DLE HIU2) or perform service and maintenance work.

User
A user is deemed to be qualified if they have read these operating instructions and understood the potential risks associated with incorrect behaviour.

Fitter/commissioner
Due to their specialist training and knowledge, and taking into consideration the applicable standards, provisions, regulations and laws, a fitter/commissioner is capable of performing work on the product (DLE HIU2) and recognizing and avoiding potential risks.

System planner
The system planner is responsible for evaluating these parameters and developing workarounds.

DANGER

Electrical energy!
Risk of death from electric shock.

• Work on parts carrying live voltage must only be carried out by trained electricians.
• Disconnect the power supply of the system and secure it against being switched back on before carrying out any installation, maintenance, cleaning or repair work.

NOTICE

• The installation and commissioning of the product (DLE HIU2) may only be carried out by trained and manufacturer-authorized professionals.
• When installing and operating a circulation system, the recognized technical standards and hygiene regulations according to DVGW worksheet W551 must be observed!

CAUTION

Material damage!
Material damage due to improper assembly and installation of spare parts!

• The instant water heater may only be installed vertically!
• When repairing and replacing spare parts, the prescribed installation positions and flow directions of the individual components to be replaced must be observed!

Poor water quality
Hard water forms limescale deposits in the heat exchanger and instant water heater and can reduce performance.

• Measure the water hardness in the supply system.
• Install a water softening system from a hardness level of 17° dH.

NOTICE
See separate instructions for the instant water heater.

Compatibility with HIU2 units and components
The enclosed mounting bracket with the connection pipe is compatible with all other components of the HIU2.

For the use of the DLE HIU2 module, we recommend the heat interface unit series HIU2 with a capacity of 12 litres (HIU2 HK12).

The DLE HIU2 is compatible with the following HIU2 components:

• One-piece surface-mounted and flush-mounted HIU2VSAI and HIU2VSUI cabinets, from nominal widths of 850 mm and 900 mm respectively.
• HIU2 connection set for manifold control stations, but not for sets with high-temperature connection.
• HIU2 circulation set with control thermostat (optional).
• HIU2 thermal circulation bridge (optional).

Installation
The DLE HIU2 can be installed both during the initial installation of a heat interface unit series HIU2 and subsequently as a retrofit, as described in this chapter.

1. Disconnect the power supply and secure it against reconnection.

2. Shut off all ball valves to the heat interface unit.

3. Loosen the two M8 nuts, insert the mounting bracket for the instant water heater and retighten the two M8 nuts.
   CAUTION
   The heat interface unit is only loosely hooked into the mounting bracket and is therefore not firmly fixed.
   There is a risk of the heat interface unit falling down.

   • Tighten the M8 nuts again. Check the tightness of the installation.

4. Ensure that the mounting bracket for the flow heater rests on the holder for the ball valves, as shown in the picture below.

5. Connect the reducers (2) to the instant water heater (1). Use the enclosed black G ½ EPDM seal for this purpose. To connect the reducers to the DLE HIU2, counterhold them against the connection piece of the DLE HIU2 (AF13).

6. Hang the instant water heater on the central suspension holes (1) in the mounting bracket (4) with screws.

7. Connect the connection pipe with insulation (3) between the hot water outlet of the shut-off set (A) and the inlet of the instant water heater (B). Use the enclosed black G ¾ EPDM gasket for this purpose.

8. Connect the instant water heater with a reducer to the drink water supply.

   • The Instant water heater set is connected to the heat interface unit.

Commissioning
For commissioning, follow separate instructions for the instant water heater and the connected HIU 2 heat interface unit.

Maintenance

Refer to the enclosed supplier documentation for the instant water heater:

• Installation guidelines for qualified tradesmen;
• User manual;
• Supplementary document detailing changes to the appliance compared to the enclosed instructions;
• Safety guidelines;
• Warranty terms and conditions.
• Disposal

WARNING
Potential for contamination of the environment and groundwater from improper disposal!

• * The legal regulations and guidelines in the country of operation must be observed when disposing of components and operating materials.

1. Disassemble the product (DLE HIU2) properly or commission a specialist company to do so.
2. Sort the assemblies and parts into recyclable materials, hazardous substances and operating materials.
3. Dispose of the assemblies and components per local laws and regulations or take them to be recycled.

Notification of administrative bodies and the manufacturer
Inform the manufacturer of the decommissioning and disposal of the product (DLE HIU2) for statistical purposes.

Return to the manufacturer
Get in contact with the manufacturer if you would like to return the product (Instant water heater set DLE HIU2) or parts of it.

Warranty

WATTS products are tested extensively. WATTS therefore guarantees only the replacement or, at the sole discretion of WATTS, the free-of-charge repair of components of the supplied products where these, in the opinion of WATTS, exhibit verifiable manufacturing faults.
