Tools and Fasteners Needed
- Phillips screwdriver
- Level
- Measuring tape and pencil
- Screws (provided). One screw is used in each side track to keep mounting brackets in place.
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Adhesion Promoter (provided)
Prepare for the Installation
- Thoroughly clean mounting surface using isopropyl alcohol and let the surface dry.
- Apply the provided Adhesion Promoter where tracks will be placed.
WARNING:
A clean, flat mounting surface is required for proper adhesion. Failure to
properly clean and install the tracks on the mounting surface may result in
injury or property damage.
NOTE:
Chemicals on the Adhesion Promoter will evaporate quickly on the surface.
Once dry, it leaves a sufficient tack to promote better adhesion of the
tracks. Any sticky residue left on hands from the wipe can be cleaned off with
isopropyl alcohol.
For best adhesive application, follow these guidelines:
-
The Track Glide™ side tracks must be installed on a flat, untextured, even surface.
-
Do not adhere to textured surfaces (drywall or textured glass).
-
Only use the Track Glide product if both side tracks can mount/adhere completely flat.
-
Avoid adhering the tracks over gaps or breaks in the mounting surface.
-
The adhesive tape used on the side tracks works better when it is applied on surfaces at a temperature of 50°F (10°C) or warmer. Especially in colder climate areas or during winter seasons, heat may need to be applied.
-
Run a hairdryer (or heat gun) on full hot along the length of the side track where the adhesive is for a few minutes to warm it up.
-
Apply consistent pressure throughout the tracks to make sure the adhesive spreads out for proper usage. (See the images on the right for the proper adhesion of the side track on a glass surface.)
-
Once the side tracks are adhered to the surface, allow them to sit for at least one hour at room temperature prior to installing the shade.
-
Proper Adhesion — Clean surface and consistent pressure along the tracks.
-
Air pockets — sections not fully adhered.
INSTALLATION
Attach the Side Tracks
For Standard Side Track
-
Peel back 3⁄4″ of adhesive backing from the back of the side tracks.
-
Adhere bottom end caps to the back of the side tracks at one end.
- From the end of the track not covered by the end cap, insert the track clip into the side tracks.
- With the end caps on the bottom, the track clips should face inward toward each other. NOTE: For Top-Down/Bottom-Up shades, insert two clips into each track.
- Slide the track clips until they rest on the end caps.
For Extended Side Tracks
- Locate the top of each side track. NOTE: The end cap on the top of the extended side track leaves part of the track exposed to allow track clips to slide into track.
- Insert the track clip into the side tracks.
- The track clips should face inward toward each other.
NOTE:
For Top-Down/Bottom-Up shades, insert two clips into each track.
Install the Side Tracks
WARNING:
Adhesive on the back of the side tracks is to be placed onto the mounting
surface one time only. Do not attempt to remove and re-apply the side tracks.
The adhesive will not provide full mounting strength once removed and re-
applied. If the side tracks are removed, new adhesive must be used. Failure to
properly use the side track adhesive may result in injury or property damage.
IMPORTANT:
Do not remove the adhesive backing yet.
- Test fit the side tracks. Using a level, make sure both tracks are true vertical.
- The side tracks must be installed with a minimum of 1⁄8″ space for the mounting bracket between the top of the side track and any obstruction above the side tracks.
- If the side tracks are installed as an outside mount, make sure sufficient clearance and perfect vertical installation of side tracks. Measure and mark position of where bottom side track will adhere. In addition, mark faint guide lines vertically to ensure side tracks are installed as perfectly vertical along the sides of the opening.
- To make sure shade fits over side tracks, center the headrail over the window opening at the desired height. Use a pencil to lightly mark the mounting surface at each end of the headrail.
- Using a level, make sure headrail, bottom and side guide marks measure evenly and vertically as possible before removing adhesive backing and installing side tracks.
NOTE:
Ensure the correct left or right side track is being installed. The track clip
should point to the inside of the opening. With the standard side track, the
end cap should be oriented to the bottom; with the extended side tracks, the
end with a fully covered end cap should be oriented to the bottom. Incorrect
orientation will prevent correct bracket placement later.
- Remove the adhesive backing from the side track.
- Starting from the bottom, attach the side track to the side of the window opening.
NOTE:
Be sure the track is perfectly vertical.
- The rail clip should point to the inside of the opening, as shown.
NOTE:
For extended side tracks, ensure the correct left or right side track is
being installed. The end of the side track with a fully covered end cap should
be oriented to the bottom, with the track clips pointing to the inside of the
opening. Incorrect orientation will not allow for bracket placement later.
- Press the side track firmly against the mounting surface.
IMPORTANT:
Apply pressure at every point along the track to activate the adhesive.
Adhesive reaches full strength in 24 hours.
- Repeat for the other side.
Attach the Mounting Brackets
- Attach a rubber pad to the back of each mounting bracket, below the rivet head.
NOTE:
For extended side tracks, use thicker rubber pad provided in bracket kit.
Standard Track Rubber Pad
Extended Track Rubber Pad
-
Starting with the left side, insert the lip of the left mounting bracket into the track.
-
Rotate the mounting bracket until the rubber pad touches the mounting surface.
NOTE:
The rubber pad is used as a spacer to ensure the brackets stay parallel to the
mounting surface while installing the headrail.
- While supporting the mounting bracket with one hand, push the bracket upwards to eliminate any gap remaining, then secure the bracket to the track using the provided screw.
IMPORTANT:
To avoid potential peeling of the track adhesive, do not over-torque the
screw.
- Repeat for the right side.
Install the Shade
- Refer to the appropriate document and page based on your order.
- For Lite Rise® shades: see the Duette® Honeycomb Shades Lite Rise Installation, Care, and Operation instructions, page 8.
- For Power View® Automation shades: see the Duette Honeycomb Shades Power View Automation Installation, Care, and Operation instructions, pages 10 through 17.
NOTE:
Take care when installing shades using Track Glide™ as pushing too hard on the
shade and bracket could cause the window to break, especially if mounted on
glass.
Finish the Installation
-
Once the shade is installed, lower the bottom rail. Adjust the rail clip positioning on the bottom rail to align with the track clips. Snap the side track clips into the rail clips in the bottom rail.
-
For Top-Down/Bottom-Up shades, snap the rail clips on both the middle and bottom rails onto the track clips.
NOTE:
Operate the shade once the clips are in place and adjust the rail clips as
needed to ensure smooth operation and no binding.

Problem| The shade is hard to raise or lower, or will not raise or
lower.
---|---
Solution| Make sure that the shade fabric is not caught between the
installation bracket and the headrail.
Check that the headrail and installation brackets are level and aligned.
Check that the side tracks are perfectly vertical. If the side tracks are not
vertical, replacement side tracks will be required and need to be installed
vertically.
Check that the track clips are not binding in the side tracks. Check that the
rail clips are properly aligned to the track clips.
CARE
Removing the Shade, If Necessary
- While keeping the track clips in place, unsnap the rail clips.
- With Top-Down/Bottom-Up shades, unsnap the rail clips on both the middle rail and bottom rail.
- While holding the headrail, push back on the bottom tab of the installation bracket with a flat blade screwdriver to release the bottom edge of the headrail.
- After releasing the bottom edge, roll the back of the headrail down and out from the bracket.
Removing the Side Tracks, If Necessary
- If the side track is recently attached (within minutes), it may be pried off with a putty knife.
- If the adhesive on the side track has begun to set (or has already set), use a hand held heat gun to locally heat the adhesive and facilitate the removal.
- Remove the adhesive residue from the mounting surface with a solvent like 3M™ Citrus Base Cleaner or automotive bug and tar remover using the manufacturer’s directions.
- New adhesive will be required to re-attach the side tracks.
- Do not attempt to reuse the side track adhesive. Failure to properly use the adhesive may result in injury or property damage.
