Use
The WMF Kitchenminis® rice cooker offers not only special advantages for cooking rice, but is also perfectly suitable for cooking cereals and pulses as well as for steaming vegetables, poultry and fish.
Rice can also be cooked while simultaneously steaming. In so doing, please note the differing cooking times for cooked and steamed foods. Where necessary, place the cooking insert (3) on the cooking pot (4) at a different time, add more water to the rice/cereals as indicated in the reference table, or give water in the empty cooking pot after cooking the rice/cereals. When soaking pulses, the timer function reminds you when the soaking time has ended.

Cleaning
Before using the appliance for the first time, clean all parts (except the heating unit) thoroughly and dry them. Please also note the cleaning notes in this instruction manual.
Cooking rice and cereals
Use about 50 g of rice per person for a side dish and about 100 g for a main dish. Measure the desired volume of rice using the measuring jug and place it in the cooking pot (4). Then add the corresponding volume of water. Warning! Note the „MAX“ mark indicating the maximum filling height. This mark refers only to cooking rice. Different types of rice may require different volumes of water. Please refer to the information provided on the manufacturer’s packaging.

  1. Wash raw rice/cereals in cold water several times, allow to drain briefly and then place in the cooking pot (4). Please note that rice/cereals will swell during cooking. For this reason, only ever fill the cooking pot to the „MAX“ mark.

  2. Add the corresponding volume of water (see reference table).
Note: Season the rice/cereals to taste with salt, cardamom, cumin, stock cubes or other herbs and spices and stir everything briefly using the enclosed rice spoon (7).

  3. Place the cooking pot (4) in the heating unit (5) and cover it with the glass lid (1).

  4. Connect the appliance to the mains.

  5. Press the on/off button (A) to turn the appliance on. The display automatically shows 00.

  6. Press the start/pause button (B) to begin cooking. The 00 display extinguishes and the LED above the steamer symbol lights up. The appliance in use symbol above the timer symbol also lights up.
Note: If you press the start/pause button again, cooking is interrupted. The LED above the symbol blinks. To restart cooking, press the start/pause button again.

  7. The rice/cereals is/are cooked, when there is no more liquid in the cooking pot (4). This is indicated by an audible signal, the LED lighting up and the LED blinking. Depending on your preferences, you may want to leave the rice/cereals to stand for a further five minutes. After five minutes, an audible signal sound and the LED lights up. The appliance now switches to keep-warm mode for up to 40 minutes. At the end of this time, the appliance turns itself off automatically.
Note: You can, of course, switch off the appliance before the end of the keep-warm period by pressing the on/off button.

  8. Pull out the mains plug.

Preparing pulses
Some types of pulses need to be soaked in water for six to eight hours before cooking to rehydrate them. For this reason, it is not possible to use the automatic stop function used when cooking rice and cereals. Please note the cooking times (see table; quantities before soaking time!). To avoid overflowing due to foam formation during cooking, you should cook preferably without glass lid.

Soaking pulses (timer function)

  1. Connect the appliance to the mains.
  2. Fill the desired volume of water to the cooking pot (4) and add the pulses.
  3. Place the cooking pot (4) in the heating unit (5) and cover it with the glass lid (1).
  4. Set the timer to the desired soaking time using the “+” and “-” buttons. The “+” button increases the timer period, the “-” button decreases it. Between 1 and 59 minutes, the timer can be made to advance in ten-minute intervals if the button is held down. Thereafter the time is shown in hours (1h to 9 h). Between “1h” and “9 h”, the timer can only be adjusted in hourly intervals. The maximum timer setting is for 9 hours.
  5. Press the start/pause button (B) to start the timer. The LED lights up permanently.
  6. When the selected time is over, an audible signal sound. The appliance then switches off automatically.
  7. Pull out the main plug or cook the pulses immediately.

Cooking pulses (timer function)
Pulses must be cooked in water. You can therefore use the timer function for this.

  1. Connect the appliance to the mains.

  2. Press the on/off button (A) to turn the appliance on. The display automatically shows 00.

  3. Set the cooking time on the timer (D). The “+” button increases the cooking time, the “-” button decreases it.
Note: The cooking time may be set to between 1 and 99 minutes.

  4. Press the start/pause button (B) to begin cooking. The LEDs light up permanently and the set time counts down. If you press the start/pause button (B) again, cooking is interrupted. The LEDs blink. To restart cooking, press the start/pause button (B) again.
Note: The set cooking time can be changed at any time during cooking by pressing the “+” and “-” buttons.

  5. When the set time has ended, an audible signal sound and the appliance automatically switches to keep-warm mode for a maximum of 40 minutes. At the end of this keep-warm time, the appliance turns itself off automatically.
Note: You can also switch off the appliance before the end of the keep- warm period by pressing the on/off button.

  6. Pull out the mains plug.

Steaming (timer function)
Add the relevant volume of water to the cooking pot (4). For reference purposes, 100ml of water corresponds to about 30 minutes of cooking time.
Note: Wash and, where necessary, peel vegetables before steaming.

  1. Fill water (see table) into the cooking pot (4) and place it in the heating unit (5).

  2. Add your ingredients to the cooking insert (3) and use the handle to place it on the cooking pot (4) with the opening facing upwards. Cover the cooking insert (3) with the glass lid (1).
Note: For even steaming, cut foods into similarly sized pieces. Connect the device to the mains.

  3. Press the on/off button (A) to turn the appliance on. The display automatically shows 00.

  4. Set the cooking time on the timer (D). The “+” button increases the cooking time, the “-” button decreases it.
Note: The cooking time may be set to between 1 and 99 minutes.

  6. When the set time has ended, an audible signal sound. The appliance switches to keep-warm mode.
After 40 minutes, the appliance turns itself off automatically.
Note: You can also switch off the appliance before the end of the keep- warm period by pressing the on/off button.

  7. Pull out the mains plug.
Note: You can prepare rice/cereals in the cooking pot (4) and vegetables on the cooking insert (3) at the same time. To this end, place the cooking insert (3) onto the cooking pot (4) during cooking. Please note the different cooking times of your foods. You may need to place the cooking insert (3) on the cooking pot (4) at a different time, add more water to the rice/cereals as indicated in the reference table, or give water in the empty cooking pot after cooking the rice/cereals.

Tips and suggestions

  • The cooking time may vary slightly depending on the size of the food being cooked. The water volume must be adapted accordingly. Smaller foods cook quicker than large ones. We recommend cooking foods of similar size together and occasionally stir it (or adding smaller pieces at different times) to obtain homogenous results.
  • If steaming has finished before the ingredients have cooked, add cold water to the cooking pot and then replace the cooking insert and lid.
  • At the end of cooking, stir the rice using the rice spoon (7) and allow it to stand in this mode for a few minutes. This produces perfect results.
  • To give your dishes even more flavour, add onions, thyme, laurel leaves, cloves, etc. to your white beans, lentils or other pulses during cooking.
  • You can also sauté onions, garlic or other herbs/spices in oil before adding them to your rice or vegetables for cooking.

Using the “to-go” lid
The “to-go” lid (2) can be used to transport the cooking pot (4) safely and easily. Allow the contents to cool down and close the cooking pot (4) with the “to-go” lid (2) using the four clasps. Make sure that these are not over the carrying handles of the cooking pot (4). The cooking pot is closed safely when the clasps clip into place on the cooking pot (4) with an audible “click.”

Cleaning and care

  • Pull out the mains plug.
  • Allow the individual parts to cool down.
  • Wash the individual parts (cooking pot, cooking insert, lid, measuring jug and rice spoon) with a mild detergent or in the dishwasher.
  • Use a damp cloth to wipe down the heating unit. Take care not to damage the thermostat.
  • Do not use scouring pads or metal utensils.
