INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION

Installation Grade Levels, Methods and Environment

This product can be installed on, above or below grade levels; floated; indoors use only.

CAUTION!
OUR PRODUCTS DO NOT CONTAIN ASBESTOS. EXISTING INSTALLED RESILIENT FLOORING AND ASPHALTIC ADHESIVE MAY CONTAIN ASBESTOS OR CRYSTALLINE SILICA. See “Recommended Work Practices for Removal of Resilient Floor Coverings” at www.rfci.com

Owner/Installer Responsibility

Owner/installer should inspect the flooring for defects prior to installation and during installation.
During installation, do not install planks which appear to be defective.
After installation, inspect the floor from a standing position. Minor scratches can generally be repaired with the use of putty, stain or filler. It is an industry standard practice of flooring installation

Job Site Condition

Manufacturer will decline responsibility for situations associated with improper installation or poor site conditions. Pouring of basement concrete floors, drywall and plasterwork, plumbing, etc. must be completed well in advance of the floor delivery. Job site should be in a normal living condition, i.e., room temperature of 60°F-80°F and relative humidity (RH) level of 35%-60%.

Concrete Subfloor Requirements

• It must be cured. It must be clean. It must be flat and level ( 3/16 inch for every 10 feet)
• Minimum moisture barrier is 6 mil (0.006 inch) virgin polyethylene sheet.

It must have moisture content of:

• Less than 5% as per Tramex Concrete Moisture Encounter or;
• Less than 3 lbs. per 1000 square feet per 24 hours per Calcium Chloride test (ASTM F-1869) or;
• Less than 2.5% per Calcium Carbide (CM) test (ASTM D-4944-04 modified).

Wood Subfloor

• It must be clean. It must be flat and level (3/16 inch for every 10 feet)
• It must have moisture content of less than 14%
• It must be structurally sound.

Existing Floor Coverings

• Acceptable floor coverings include: linoleum, vinyl carpet tile, terrazzo, ceramic tile and other “moisture sealing floors.”
• Unacceptable floor coverings include: carpet, needle punch felt, edge glued linoleum and other “moisture absorbing flooring.”

Radiant Heated Floor

• This product can be installed over radiant heated floor. Special install precautions apply.
• The finished floor surface temperature must not exceed 85°F throughout the service life of the floor

Wet Areas

• This product can be installed in bathrooms, kitchens, mud rooms, foyers, powder rooms and laundry rooms.
• Do not install in saunas, swimming pool areas and other similar extreme wet areas.
• Fill all expansion gaps with water repellant sealant

Acclimation

This product does not require acclimation provided there are no extreme temperature and humidity differences between retailer, transportation and final installation site

Expansion Gaps

• Allow expansion gap of 5/16 inch to 3/8 inch around perimeter of the floor and vertical structures.
• Floor spanning greater than 40 feet, length or width, require expansion T-molding.
• Wall openings, with or without door, require expansion T-molding.

Tools

You need the following tools to install this product: tapping block, pull bar, spacers, tape measure, hammer, circular saw, saw blade with carbide tip for finish cuts, work gloves

Helpful Considerations

• Work in well lit area.
• Install flooring perpendicular to the direction of the floor joists. If possible, install the boards parallel to the direction of the light entering the room.
• If underlayment is used, install it in the same direction that the flooring is to be installed.
• Stagger end joints but avoid stair-stepping appearance by varying stagger distances between adjacent rows. Minimum stagger distance is 6 inches.
• Boards cut from the opposite end of the row may be used for the next row starter boards.

Click Lock Technique

• Position the second panel in the groove of the first panel at a 20° or 30° angle.
• Move the panel gently up and down while exerting pressure toward the first panel. The panel will auto-matically lock into place. See diagrams below.

Floating Installation Instruction

1. Step 1 – Pre-install Activities
2. Rack up planks from several boxes.
3. Inspect product for defects. If material is questionable, contact the retailer immediately. Do not proceed with installation.
4. Step 2 – Install Moisture Barrier
5. For concrete, let the moisture barrier run up the wall a bit before cutting to size.
6. Install the moisture barrier. See diagram (2A).
7. Step 3 – Install the First Row
8. Saw off the tongue on long and short sides of the first plank. Create expansion gap by placing spacers between the planks and the walls for expansion.
9. Saw off only the long tongues of the next planks.
10. Use the angling method to connect and lock the joints between the planks. Remember to use the spacer for maintaining expansion gap. See diagrams below (3A, 3B).
11. Step 4 – Install the remaining Rows
12. Stagger the end joints by at least 6 inches.
13. Use angling method to join and lock the long edge.
14. Use either the tapping block or pull bar to drive the next plank toward the first plank until the end joints are locked.
15. Repeat the steps until the row is complete. See diagrams below (4A, 4B, 4C, 4D).
16. Step 5 – Tight Spaces
17. In tight spaces use the pull bar and a hammer. See diagrams below (5A, 5B, 5C).
18. Step 6 – Pipes
19. Pipes are handled by drilling a hole through locked end joints.
20. Drill a hole the size of the diameter plus 3/4 inch for expansion.
21. Separate the panels and rejoin them around the pipe. See diagrams (6A, 6B, 6C).
22. Step 7 – Under Door Frames
23. Ensure a 3/8 inch expansion gap between floor and door jamb.
24. Use a tapping block and a hammer, or a pull bar and a hammer. See diagrams (7A, 7B).
25. Step 8 – Finishing Touches
26. Remove all spacers.
27. Install the molding on the plastic membrane that runs up the wall from under the floor. Never fasten the molding to the floor.
28. Caulk around pipes and in places where molding cannot be installed.

Maintenance and Care

Please Note : Damages resulting from improper care and maintenance of the floor are not covered by warranty.

1. Sweep or dust mop regularly. If vacuuming, use vacuum head with a brush or felt, not a head equipped with a beater.
2. Do not leave any amount of liquids (water, juice, soft drinks, spills, etc.) on the floor. Clean any wet spots immediately.
3. Avoid excessive exposure to water from tracking during periods of inclement weather.
4. Never use a wet mop or douse floor with water or liquid cleaners. Liquid can seep between the cracks and cause moisture damage.
5. Never use a steam cleaner.
6. Do not use any cleaning agents containing wax, oil or polish. Left over residue will form a dull film. For tough spots, use damp cloth or apply a little alcohol or nail polish remover on the clean cloth, rub till spot is removed.
7. Do not use steel wool or scouring powder which will scratch the floor.
8. Minimize abrasive and dirt by placing mats on both sides of exterior doors. Area rugs in high-traffic areas are also a good idea.
9. Place protective pads beneath furniture legs and other heavy objects. Keep furniture casters clean.
10. Keep pets’ nails trimmed.
11. Remove shoes with cleats, spikes or exceptionally pointy heels before walking on the floor.
12. Take great care when moving furniture and heavy objects. Lay down a protective sheet or plywood.
13. Do not obstruct in any way the expansion joint around the perimeter of your floor.
