Chapter 1: Getting started

Welcome!
Welcome to the ASUS Desktop PC User Guide. This guide will help you set up and use your computer effectively.

Getting to know your computer
Before starting, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the different parts and features of your ASUS Desktop PC. Refer to the user manual for detailed information on the components and their functions.

Setting up your computer
Follow the steps below to set up your computer:

1. Unpack the ASUS Desktop PC and all included accessories.
2. Connect the necessary cables, such as power cable and display cables, to the appropriate ports on your computer and the external devices.
3. Place the computer in a well-ventilated area with sufficient space for airflow.
4. Turn on the computer by pressing the power button.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the initial setup process.

Turning your computer ON
To turn on your ASUS Desktop PC, press the power button located on the front panel of the computer case. Wait for the computer to boot up and load the operating system.

Enabling fast startup

To enable fast startup:

1. Click on the Start menu and select “Settings”.
2. In the Settings window, click on “System”.
3. Go to the “Power & sleep” tab.
4. Under the “Additional power settings” section, click on “Choose what the power buttons do”.
5. Click on “Change settings that are currently unavailable”.
6. Scroll down to the “Shutdown settings” section and check the box next to “Turn on fast startup”.
7. Click “Save changes”.

Chapter 2: Connecting devices to your computer

Connecting a USB storage device
To connect a USB storage device to your ASUS Desktop PC:

1. Locate an available USB port on your computer.
2. Insert the USB storage device into the USB port.
3. Wait for your computer to detect the device. You can access the files on the USB storage device through File Explorer.

Connecting microphone and speakers
To connect a microphone and speakers to your ASUS Desktop PC:

1. Locate the audio ports on your computer. The microphone port is usually pink, and the speaker/headphone port is usually green.
2. Connect the microphone to the microphone port and the speakers to the speaker/headphone port.
3. Adjust the volume settings on your computer if necessary.

Changing to the external audio output
If you want to change the audio output to external speakers or headphones:

1. Right-click on the volume icon in the taskbar.
2. Select “Playback devices” from the menu.
3. In the Sound window, select the desired audio device from the list of playback devices.
4. Click “Set Default” and then click “OK”.

Connecting multiple external displays
If you want to connect multiple external displays to your ASUS Desktop PC:

1. Ensure that your computer has the necessary ports to support multiple displays.
2. Connect each display to the corresponding ports on your computer.
3. Adjust the display settings in the operating system to extend or duplicate the desktop across multiple displays.

Connecting an HDTV
To connect your ASUS Desktop PC to an HDTV:

1. Locate the HDMI port on your computer and the HDMI input port on your HDTV.
2. Connect one end of an HDMI cable to the HDMI port on your computer and the other end to the HDMI input port on your HDTV.
3. Change the input source on your HDTV to the corresponding HDMI port.
4. Your computer’s display should now appear on the HDTV.

Chapter 3: Using your computer

Proper posture when using your Desktop PC
When using your ASUS Desktop PC, it’s important to maintain proper posture to avoid discomfort or strain. Follow these guidelines:

• Sit up straight with your back against the chair.
• Keep your feet flat on the floor.
• Position the monitor at eye level.
• Use a comfortable keyboard and mouse.

Using the memory card reader (Optional)
If your ASUS Desktop PC is equipped with a memory card reader:

1. Locate the memory card reader on your computer.
2. Insert the memory card into the appropriate slot.
3. Wait for your computer to detect the memory card. You can access the files on the memory card through File Explorer.

Using the optical drive (on selected models only)
If your ASUS Desktop PC has an optical drive:

1. Press the eject button on the optical drive to open the tray.
2. Place a disc on the tray and gently push it back in.
3. Wait for your computer to detect the disc. You can access the contents of the disc through File Explorer or the appropriate software.

Configuring the USB ports using the BIOS

To configure the USB ports using the BIOS:

1. Restart your computer and enter the BIOS setup by pressing a specific key (usually Del or F2) during startup.
2. Navigate to the “USB Configuration” or similar section in the BIOS setup.
3. Configure the USB port settings according to your preferences.
4. Save the changes and exit the BIOS setup.

Configuring the HDD security setting using the BIOS
To configure the HDD security setting using the BIOS:

1. Restart your computer and enter the BIOS setup by pressing a specific key (usually Del or F2) during startup.
2. Navigate to the “Security” or similar section in the BIOS setup.
3. Configure the HDD security settings, such as setting a password for the hard drive.
4. Save the changes and exit the BIOS setup.

Chapter 4: Connecting to the Internet

Wired connection
To connect your ASUS Desktop PC to the Internet using a wired connection:

1. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on your computer and the other end to a router or modem.
2. Wait for your computer to establish a connection. You should now have Internet access.

Starting for the first time

Start menu

Seek servicing if the casing has been damaged. · DO NOT expose to dirty or dusty environments. DO NOT operate during a gas leak. · DO NOT place or drop objects on top and do not shove any foreign objects into the Desktop PC. · DO NOT expose to strong magnetic or electrical fields. · DO NOT expose to or use near liquids, rain, or moisture. DO NOT use the modem during electrical storms. · Battery safety warning: DO NOT throw the battery in fire. DO NOT short circuit the contacts. “Do not ingest battery, Chemical Burn Hazard” This product contains a coin / button cell battery. Enabling fast startup
You can shut down the computer with fast startup enabled. To enable fast startup in Shutdown settings: Enter Control Panel in the search bar and open it (View by: Category), select Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power button does, click Change settings that are currently unavailable, check Turn on fast startup (recommended) and click Save changes.
If fast startup is disabled, when you shut down the computer, it shuts down to the S5 power state.

Connecting microphone and speakers
This desktop PC comes with microphone ports and speaker ports on both the front and rear panels. The audio I/O ports located on the rear panel allow you to connect 2-channel, 4-channel, 5.1-channel, and 7.1-channel stereo speakers.
· When your Desktop PC comes with an internal speaker, the audio output will be from the internal speaker.
· When you connect an external audio device such as earphone or speaker, you need to enable the audio device output. For details, refer to the section Changing to the external audio output.

Changing to the external audio output
When you connect an external audio device to your Desktop PC, enable the audio device output to ensure a clear audio quality.
To change to the external audio output: 1. Connect an external audio device such as earphone or speaker to the rear Line Out port. The
Audio Manager screen automatically pops up.
For the location of the rear Line Out port, refer to the section Getting to know your computer.
2. Tick Front Speaker Out, then click OK.

3. Tick Line In, then click OK. The audio output will now be from the external audio device.

Your desktop PC may come with VGA, HDMITM, or DisplayPort ports and allows you to connect multiple external displays.
Setting up multiple displays
When using multiple monitors, you are allowed to set display modes. You can use the additional monitor as a duplicate of your main display, or as an extension to enlarge your Windows desktop. To set up multiple displays:
1. Turn off your computer. 2. Connect the two monitors to your computer and connect the power cords to the monitors.
Refer to the Setting up your computer section in Chapter 1 for details on how to connect a monitor to your computer.

Proper posture when using your Desktop PC
When using your Desktop PC, maintaining the proper posture is necessary to prevent strain to your wrists, hands, and other joints or muscles. This section provides you with tips on avoiding physical discomfort and possible injury while using and fully enjoying your Desktop PC.

To maintain the proper posture:
· Position your computer chair to make sure that your elbows are at or slightly above the keyboard to get a comfortable typing position.
· Adjust the height of your chair to make sure that your knees are slightly higher than your hips to relax the backs of your thighs. If necessary, use a footrest to raise the level of your knees.
· Adjust the back of your chair so that the base of your spine is firmly supported and angled slightly backward.
· Sit upright with your knees, elbows and hips at an approximately 90º angle when you are at the PC.
· Place the monitor directly in front of you, and turn the top of the monitor screen even with your eye level so that your eyes look slightly downward.
· Keep the mouse close to the keyboard, and if necessary, use a wrist rest for support to reduce the pressure on your wrists while typing.
· Use your Desktop PC in a comfortably-lit area, and keep it away from sources of glare such as windows and straight sunlight.
· Take regular mini-breaks from using your Desktop PC.

Using the memory card reader (Optional)
Digital cameras and other digital imaging devices use memory cards to store digital picture or media files. The built-in memory card reader on the front panel of your system allows you to read from and write to different memory card drives.
To use the memory card: 1. Insert the memory card into the card slot.
· A memory card is keyed so that it fits in only one direction. DO NOT force a card into a slot to avoid damaging the card.
· You can place media in one or more of the card slots and use each media independently. Place only one memory card in a slot at one time.
2. Select a program from the AutoPlay window to access your files.
· If AutoPlay is NOT enabled in your computer, click File Explorer from the Start menu, and then double-click the memory card icon to access the data on it.
· Each card slot has its own drive icon which is displayed on the File Explorer screen.
3. When finished, right-click the memory card drive icon on the Computer screen, click Eject, and then remove the card.
Never remove cards while or immediately after reading, copying, formatting, or deleting data on the card or else data loss may occur.

To prevent data loss, use “Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media” in the Windows® notification area before removing the memory card.

Inserting an optical disc To insert an optical disc: 1. While your system is on, press the eject button on the drive bay cover to open the tray. 2. Place the disc on the optical drive with the label side outward if the desktop is positioned
vertically and the label side up if the desktop is positioned horizontally. 3. Push the tray gently to close it. 4. Select a program from the AutoPlay window to access your files.

Removing an optical disc To remove an optical disc: 1. While the system is on, do either of the following to eject the tray:

Configuring the USB ports using the BIOS
You can enable or disable the front and rear USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C®, USB 3.2 Gen 1, USB 3.2 Gen 2 and USB 2.0 ports from the BIOS Setup.
To disable or enable the front and rear USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C®, USB 3.2 Gen 1, USB 3.2 Gen 2 and USB 2.0 ports:
1. Press to enter the BIOS Setup at startup. 2. From the BIOS Setup EZ Mode screen, press to enter the Advanced Mode. From the

Configuring the HDD security setting using the BIOS
You can set a password in the BIOS Setup to protect your HDD.
To set a password for your HDD from the BIOS Setup: 1. Press to enter the BIOS Setup at startup. 2. From the BIOS Setup EZ Mode screen, press to enter the Advanced Mode. From the
Advanced Mode screen, click Security > HDDx: [name of HDD] to open the HDD Password screen. 3. Select the Set Master Password item and press . 4.
