ASUS MB17AHG Portable USB Monitor
Product Information: MB17AHG Portable USB Monitor
The MB17AHG Portable USB Monitor is a class B digital apparatus that complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules and Canadian ICES-003. This monitor is ENERGY STAR certified and qualifies for ENERGY STAR in the factory default setting which can be restored by Factory Reset the function in the OSD menu. Changing the factory default settings or enabling other features may increase power consumption that could exceed the ENERGY STAR specified limits. The product also complies with India E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2016, and prohibits the use of Lead, Mercury, Hexavalent Chromium, polybrominated biphenyls(PBBs), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers(PBDEs) in concentrations exceeding 0.1% by weight in homogenous materials and 0.01% by weight in homogenous materials for cadmium, except exemptions listed in Schedule 2 of the Rule.
Product Usage Instructions
To use the MB17AHG Portable USB Monitor, follow the below instructions:
- Connect one end of the USB cable to the monitor and the other end to your computer or laptop.
- Press the power button located on the monitor to turn it on.
- Use the OSD menu to adjust the settings as per your preference.
Care & Cleaning
Clean the monitor with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use any liquid or spray to
clean the monitor. Avoid touching the screen with sharp or pointed objects.

Care & cleaning
Cleaning. Turn your monitor off and unplug the cable. Clean the monitor surface with a lint-free, non-abrasive cloth. Stubborn stains may be removed with a cloth dampened with a mild cleaner.
- Avoid using a cleaner containing alcohol or acetone. Use a cleaner intended for use with the LCD. Never spray the cleaner directly on the screen, as it may drip inside the monitor and cause an electric shock. The following symptoms are normal with the monitor:
- You may find slightly uneven brightness on the screen depending on the desktop pattern you use.
- When the same image is displayed for hours, an afterimage of the previous screen may remain after switching the image. The screen will recover slowly or you can turn off the Power Switch for hours.
- When the screen becomes black or flashes, or cannot work anymore, contact your dealer or service center to fix it. Do not repair the screen by yourself!

Brightness/Volume hot Key
Used to tune the value of brightness and earphone volume by moving the button up/down forwards. Press the key to quickly switch brightness and earphone volume. -
HDMI port
Connect to your computer with an HDMI cable. -
USB Type-C port
Used to connect to power adapter or USB Type-C host devices that support “DP Alt Mode”.
IMPORTANT
Use only bundled power adapter and USB cable to charge your monitor. Using
different power adapters and cables might bring potential damage to your
device. For the best performance, please use the inbox power adapter for
MB17AHG.
WARNING: The adapter may become warm to hot while in use. DO NOT cover
the adapter and keep it away from your body while it is connected to a power
source. If your device becomes unusual hot, disconnect the USB cable from your
device, and send the device including the power adapter and USB cable to an
ASUS-qualified service personnel
QuickFit Function
The QuickFit function contains two patterns: (1) Grid (2) Photo size.
- Grid pattern: Facilitates designers and users to organize content and the layout on one page and achieve a consistent look and feel. Alignment grid 1 will be rotated automatically if auto-rotation is enabled.
- Photo size: Provides photographers and other users to accurately view and edit their photos in real size on the screen.
Adjusting the monitor
*The hinge supports 0 to 90 degrees according to different scenarios. When standing in horizontal mode, the tilt angle is suggested to be between 0 to 35 degrees for the most comfortable visual experiences. To connect with a tripod stand, you can fold the stand closely and utilize the tripod hole on the stand to connect with it.
Connect the USB monitor to the system
- When connecting with the system by HDMI port, please connect the inbox adapter to power up the monitor.
- When the input power is detected as not sufficient, the “Brightness” will be limited in a certain value, please plug in the inbox adapter, the “Brightness” then will be open to adjust to full brightness again.
- The video can only work when your PC/Laptop supports “DP Alt Mode”, please contact the PC/Laptop manufacturer to confirm if the function is supported
OSD (On-Screen Display) menu
How to reconfigure
- Press the center of a 5-way button to display the OSD menu.
- Move the Up and Down keys to switch the options in the menu. When you move from one icon to another, the option name is highlighted.
- To select a highlighted item from the menu, move the Right key or the Central button .
- Move the Up and Down keys to select the desired parameters.
- Move the Right key or the Central button to enter the slide bar, and then use the Up or Down keys (depending on the indicators in the menu) to make changes.
- Move the Left key to return to the previous menu.
OSD Function Introduction
Splendid
This function contains eight sub-functions that you can select for your
preference.
- Standard Mode: This is the best choice for document editing with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
- sRGB Mode: This is the best choice for viewing photos and graphics from PCs.
- Scenery Mode: This is the best choice for scenery photo displaying with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
- Theater Mode: This is the best choice for movie-watching with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
- Game Mode: This is the best choice for game playing with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
- Night View Mode: This is the best choice for playing a dark-scene game or watching a dark-scene movie with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence technology.
- Reading Mode: This is the best choice for book reading.
- Darkroom Mode: This is the best choice for a weak ambient light environment.
- In the Standard Mode, the Saturation, skin tone, Sharpness, and ASCR functions are not user-configurable.
- In the sRGB, the Saturation, Color Temp., skin tone, Sharpness, Contrast, and ASCR functions are not user-configurable.
- In the Reading Mode, the Saturation, SkinTone, ASCR, Contrast, and Color Temp functions are not user-configurable.
Blue Light Filter
Adjust the energy level of blue light emitted from the LED backlight.

Blue Light Filter: In this function, you can adjust the blue light filter from Min to max. Min: no changes Max: The higher the level, the less blue light is scattered. When the blue light filter is activated, the default settings of Standard Mode will be automatically imported. Besides the maximum level, the brightness is user-configurable. Maximum is the optimized setting. It is in compliance with TUV low blue light certification*. The brightness
of the function is not user-configurable. -
When the user adjusts the blue light filter bar to the maximum level. Please refer to the following to alleviate eye strains: Users should take some time away from the display if working for long hours. It is advised to take short breaks (at least 5 mins) after around 1 hour of continuous working at the computer. Taking short and frequent breaks is more effective than a single longer break.

To minimize eye strain and dryness in your eyes, users should rest the eye periodically by focusing on objects that are far away.

Eye exercises can help to reduce eye strain. Repeat these exercises often. If eye strain continues please consult a physician. Eye exercises: (1) Repeating look up and down (2) Slowly roll your eyes (3) Move your eyes diagonally.

High-energy blue light may lead to eye strain and AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration). Blue light Filter to reduce 70% (max.) harmful blue light to avoid CVS (Computer Vision Syndrome).
Color
Select the image color you like from this function.
- Brightness: The adjusting range is from 0 to 100.
- Contrast: The adjusting range is from 0 to 100.
- Saturation: The adjusting range is from 0 to 100.
- Color Temp.: Contains three preset color modes (Cool, Normal, Warm) and User Mode.
- Skin Tone: Contains three color modes including Reddish, Natural, and Yellowish.
- In the User Mode, colors of R (Red), G (Green), and B (Blue) are user configurable; the adjusting range is from 0 ~ to 100.
Image
You can adjust the image Sharpness, Trace Free, Aspect Control, VividPixel,
ASCR, and FreeSync Premium from this main function.
- Sharpness: Adjusts the picture’s sharpness. The adjusting range is from 0 to 100.
- Trace Free: Speeds up the response time by Over Drive technology. The adjusting range is from lower 0 to faster 100.
- Aspect Control: Adjusts the aspect ratio to “Full”, “Equivalent”.
- VividPixel: ASUS Exclusive Technology that brings lifelike visuals for crystal-clear and detail-oriented enjoyment. The adjusting range is from 0 to 100.
- ASCR: Select ON or OFF to enable or disable the dynamic contrast ratio function.
- FreeSync Premium: It can allow a FreeSync-supported graphics source to dynamically adjust display refresh rate based on typical content frame rates for power-efficient, virtually stutter-free, and low-latency display update.
Input Select
Select the input source from HDMI, Type-C 1, or Type-C 2 input signal.
System Setup
Adjusts the system configuration.
- Splendid Demo Mode: Activate the demo mode for the Splendid function.
- Auto Rotation: To enable/disable rotate image automatically. Please be noted that the Auto rotation function is only working under Windows OS by installing DisplayWidget Center software.
- Volume: Adjusts the output volume of an earphone. GamePlus: The GamePlus Function provides a toolkit and creates a better gaming environment for users when playing different types of games. Particularly, the Crosshair function is specially designed for new gamers or beginners interested in First Person Shooter (FPS) games. To active GamePlus:
- Press the GamePlus Button to enter the GamePlus main menu.
- Activate Crosshair, Timer, FPS Counter, or Display Alignment function.
- Move the button up/down to select and press to confirm the function needed. Press to go off, and exit.
- Crosshair/Timer/FPS Counter is movable by moving the 5-way key.
- QuickFit: See pages 1-4 for details.
- ECO Mode: Activate the ecology mode for power saving.
- OSD Setup: Adjusts the OSD Timeout, DDC/CI, and Transparency of the OSD screen.
- Language: Select OSD language. The selections are English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Poland, Czech, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Portugal, Turkey, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Thai, Indonesian, and Ukrainian.
- Key Lock: Disable all key functions. Pressing the button for more than five seconds to disable the key lock function.
- Power Key Lock: To disable/enable the power key.
- Information: Displays the monitor information.
- Power Indicator: Turn the power LED indicator on/off.
- All Reset: Selects “Yes” to revert all settings to the factory default mode
Shortcut
Selecting this option allows you to set a shortcut key. Shortcut: The user can
select from “Blue Light Filter” “Splendid”, “Brightness”, “Contrast”, “Auto
Rotation”, “Input Select”, and “And volume” and set them as a shortcut key.

DisplayWidget Center
Please go to MB17AHG’s official website, find the “Support” tab, and choose
“Driver &Utility” to download the latest DisplayWidget center. Please always
connect your MB17AHG to the input device FIRST, and then turn on the
DisplayWidget center. We also suggest you create a shortcut of DisplayWidget
center on your computer desktop for easier activation.

Troubleshooting (FAQ)
Problem | Possible Solution |
---|---|
Power LED is not ON | • Press the button to check if the monitor is in the |
ON mode.
• Check if the USB Type-C cable is properly connected to the monitor and the
computer.
The power LED lights amber and there is no screen image| • Check if the monitor and the computer are in the ON mode.
• Make sure the USB Type-C cable is properly connected between the Portable USB Monitor and the computer.
• Inspect the signal cable and make sure none of the pins are bent.
• Connect the computer with another available monitor to check if the computer is properly
working.
Screen image is too light or dark| • Adjust the Brightness settings via the
button.
Screen image bounces or a wave pattern is present in the image| • Make sure
the USB Type-C cable is properly connected between the Portable USB Monitor
and the computer.
• Move electrical devices that may cause
electrical interference.
Screen image has color defects (white does not look white)| • Inspect the
USB Type-C cable and make sure that none of the pins are bent.
Problem| Possible Solution
---|---
After connecting with the USB Type-C source device, the power LED lights
continuously blinking or showing ASUS logo repeatly| • Insufficient power
supply from source USB Type-C devices. Please follow below steps:
• Press the left button , and then connect the USB Type-C cable. This operation will enable built-in safe mode. After displaying ASUS logo, please release the left button.
After ASUS Logo disappearing, there is “safe mode” message OSD showing up. Once “safe mode” message OSD disappears, please set background color to white image or nearly white image (*1).
• Press MENU button, main menu OSD is showing. The upper left corner of the OSD will display small red-colored font “S”, indicating it is now in safe mode. Enter brightness setup, press the up key to tune up brightness. During the process, please note down brightness value “Y” up until MB17AHG re- start.(*2). For example, if brightness value shows “70” and MB17AHG restarts when adjusting to “71”, “70” is the “Y” value to note down and is the highest brightness value for the connecting USB-C source device.
• Press MENU button, main menu OSD is showing. The upper left corner still indicate “S” as safe mode. Adjust the OSD brightness value to “Y”
• Close the OSD and press Left hot key for 5 seconds to turn off safe mode.
• Complete.
- The white color background will consume higher power, so it’s better to use the white color background to test the power limit from the source USB Type-C device.
- If MB17AHG does not restart when adjusting to value 100, that means the source USB Type-C device has a sufficient power supply.
